  1. Had surgery yesterday and it went great. I haven’t had really any pain nor gas issues but had two times when the nausea was awful. Last night they gave me a couple of medications for it because zofran didn’t work on its own. Thankfully I didn’t throw up. Been waking the halls a lot. Today I got a Protein Shake and it literally took me all day to sip. Lol. I’ve also had ice Water, a couple of bites of yogurt and a few sips of Tomato Soup. Overall feeling good. Only time I feel icky is when I take too many sips...I get a heavy feeling like I have to burp. Going on my walks I saw someone else with a Protein shake... I want to say hi but don’t want to invade anyone’s privacy. Lol I should be released tomorrow...my Dr is on the conservative side and likes to keep people 2 nights.

Good luck to everyone going tomorrow!

It would scare me to start liquids so late...what if you're liver is enlarged?

Regardless, positive thoughts and good vibes coming your way...you've got this!!! :)

Hopefully it isn’t! 🙂 That’s why with my program I had to lose 5% of my starting weight prior to being approved for surgery.

Hi lovelies! Sorry I've been absent - I've had a lot to do to get things ready! But my day is almost here... my RNY is tomorrow at 1pm. Making the switch over to Clear Liquids only soon... this is starting to feel so very real now. But I feel ready for it. And I'm extremely grateful that my clinic has prepared me so well for this day!

I have still been reading everyone's journeys on here in my absence - I hope those of you who are struggling post-op have a speedy recovery! We've all got this! 🤗 Go June Bunch, go!

I hope everything goes smoothly tomorrow! Check in when you can! :)

  4. Hope everyone is doing well!

I just got back from my pre-op anesthesia appointment. I had an EKG, met with the anesthesiologist, a nurse and had blood drawn. I go back one week from today on the 17th - arrive at 6:30am for 7:30am surgery! The anesthesiologist said my surgeon is his favorite and "the best". 😄

I can eat normally right up until noon on Sunday. After that it is clear liquids until midnight, then nothing after that. It's so interesting to me how every program is different!

    Hi Everyone!

Just a quick update, Had my RNY yesterday and am still in the hospital. I am doing well, pain is managed and I have been able to get some Fluid in. Might get to go home later.

The only excitement was that the entire hospital lost power for 45 minutes right in the middle of my surgery! I guess they quickly unplugged everything and plugged into a generator. I, of course, didn't know any difference. LOL!

Anyway, glad to be on the other side and I will update later. :)

Sending good wishes to all my June surgery siblings!

Glad to hear you're doing well! Sounds like definitely some excitement during your surgery! lol I'm surprised hospitals don't have automatic failover to generator power...especially for ORs. Glad everything went smoothly! :)

  6. Can't wait to hear how everyone who had surgery today is doing! Who is up next? Anyone else going this week? It is hard to go through 34 pages and figure it out at this point. :)

I have my pre-op anesthesia appointment on Monday the 10th and a pre-op nurse consult on Thursday the 13th. then that's it...I'm in surgery at 7:30am on Monday the 17th!

I'm finding it hard to concentrate at work right now because I'm getting anxious. Thank goodness I don't have to do a two week liquid diet on top of all of the activities I have going on at work and home this week!

I need to get Jello yet, but I'd add beef and chicken broth. I bought Decaf coffee, herbal tea and crystal light. I also picked up some small containers, a new lunchbox for going back to work, and several shot-glass sized measuring cups.

Sent from my SM-G970U using BariatricPal mobile app

My list is: sugar-free pudding and sugar free Jello, Protein20 flavored waters, Gatorade zero, cream Soups, chicken broth, sugar free popsicles, unflavored Protein Powder (to mix in pudding, jello, soups...etc), Two Good greek yogurts, Ricotta cheese, 2oz disposable containers (so I can prep stuff before surgery and throw in the fridge), small fork/spoon set, Flinstones chewables, calcium citrate chewables, herbal teas. That should get me through my two weeks of "full liquids" (yes, yogurt and ricotta is on my "full liquids" list) and beyond...

I also bought a new blender to can puree the heck out of anything and everything. ;) I still have to figure out how to pack food for work, but I took two weeks off and I'm working two weeks remote after that so I have some time to decide what to do.

Well it’s official, I’m getting a bit anxious (as in nervous). I’m determined, but my determination is also leading to nerves. June 17th is coming faster than I thought.

I'm the 17th too and as soon as May 17th came and went I can't stop thinking about it being less than a month away! I'm so busy between now and then with work and a high school graduation and party that I suspect the time is going to fly by. This weekend I'm going to get the last of my prep supplies!

Ugh is anyone else going off the rails a little?! I've been eating foods that are so shitty for me after doing amazing on my diet for the last 6 months. I'm supposed to start my 2 week liquid diet on June 5th BUT I'm going to do a 3 or 4 week liquid or low carb diet to get back on track. I plan on starting that this coming Sunday.

Since my last appointment I've been at a standstill. I'm still exercising but I've been letting bread creep back in and also grabbing bites of my family's food (french fries) and had pizza. I'm trying to get out of my head the "well you won't be able to have this for a while and your pre-op nutrition appointment and last weigh in is June 7th so...no big deal". I'm annoying myself. LOL I've been so disciplined since January. I've got to get back to the mantra "progress not perfection", not beat myself up over it and get back to my low carb/high Protein diet. My surgery is the 17th and I have one more weekend of events to get through ... my son graduates high school on the 7th of June and we'll have one dinner out afterwards and a party that weekend for him. But that should be it!

You know in the pre-op education last night, the nurse did say that we could have coffee during the pre-op because to quit caffeine cold turkey would bring an onslaught of headaches. But after surgery no caffeinated coffee, tea, etc. I was not a happy camper when I found this out. But I have done some research and found a pretty DAMN good Decaf coffee. Since I have a Keurig, Peet's Coffee makes a wicked house blend Decaf. And trust me I know my coffee, you won't even know the difference. So if you still want your coffee, give it a try.Decaf House Blend K-Cup® Packs

Thanks for the suggestion! Just added it to my shopping list. :)

  11. Glad to see some new June people! Welcome!

Question - does anyone else have to give up coffee for a bit? On my plan I'm not allowed to have coffee for three months post-op. 😭😭 In addition to the caffeine my nutritionist said that it is also the acidity they are concerned with. I'm now drinking half-caff in the morning to prepare for no caffeine but this is going to be tough! I like the taste of coffee and it is my morning routine! Herbal teas, which she said were ok, are just not going to cut it! LOL

It makes me happy that we actually have a great group of people who we can turn to if needed. I mean unless you're embarking on this journey, you cant fully understand how exciting, scary, and wonderful this is. A great example is my wonderful husband, he supports me but I know I drive him nuts talking about it lol. Smashing Pumpkins helped get me through high school but so did 80s hair bands lol my parents raised me loving the 80s even though I'm a 90s baby (lol) and Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins were ahead of their time.

You're so young to be an 80's hair band lover but I love that you are! That was my high school music (I'm 46). Hair nation is my go to Satellite radio station. :) 🤘

Anyone having a "last meal" per say of something that is a favorite now but you know you won't be able to enjoy for a long long time or ever again depending on what it is? I haven't had Pasta since I started my journey in January and my nutritionist recommends no breads or pasta after surgery even when cleared for regular diet. I think I may have myself a good old fashioned plate of spaghetti (1/2 cup serving size!) and home made meatballs. I don't have a liquid pre-op diet in my program so I have some time to decide.

Great list!!! Nice. I have a vitamix and one of those shake cups with the blending ball inside. So Isopure is the Protein you are going with. How's it taste?

Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

I haven't tried the Isopure yet. I'm going to buy a 1lb bag soon to make sure it mixes well and has no taste - I'll let you know when I try it. I've already tried a few flavors of the Protein20 Water to make sure I liked those. I read they had horrible aftertaste but I don't notice any and I think they taste pretty good.

    Hi all.

So happy to see a June group! I have been cleared for surgery, BCBS insurance approved June 3rd surgery date for RNY. I'm super excited. Married, 43, with 2 kids and I have been overweight since my last child....shes 14!!!!
    5'6",
    CW 242
    GW 142
Comorbidities and medication: high blood pressure, depression, anxiety

I'm planning to go back to a Keto household to support my new way of eating.

Let's prep since it's almost time: what checklists have you completed so far?
Me: all Vitamins purchased, apps downloaded (my fitness pa, bariatastic, this one), purchased a bunch of comfy transitions clothes-yoga pants and cute off the shoulder tops, personal measuring cups and plates, meal prep containers, bone broths, Jello packs, etc., after surgery scar gel....
What things have you done to prep? Let's exchange tips and ideas.

Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Welcome!

I just got my approval today (that was quick thanks BCBS of MA) so June 17th is a definite for me!!! I have all of my pre-op and my 2 and 6 week post-op appts scheduled. Now I'm nervous! lol

I've prepped a few things too...

So far I have: New blender (pricey but does awesome purees and makes soup!), digital scale, 3 cute tops in a 1x (I'm in a 2x now down from a 3x :) ), Vitamin E oil for scars

Amazon shopping list which now I'll buy: kids fork and spoon set, 100 2oz plastic cups w/ lids, 100 4oz plastic cups with lids, Isopure Zero Carb unflavored Protein Powder (to throw in Soups in jello), compartmentalized containers for lunch when I go back to work and an extra Blender Bottle for work

Walmart and grocery store list: Premier Protein shakes (which I already use), Flinstones Complete chewables, Protein20 drinks (different flavors), herbal teas, sugar free ice pops, sugar free Jello pudding mix (going to make w/ Fairlife milk), sugar free jello, Oikos Zero yogurts, cream soups, broth...etc.

I plan on prepping a bunch of 2oz cups w/ yogurt, jello, jello pudding, cottage cheese...etc.

I definitely need to get some transition clothes. I got rid of everything smaller sized in my closet last year when I was sick of looking at it (from 12's all the way to 26's). I have nothing smaller than my 28 jeans and a few pairs of 26/28 capris and bermuda shorts.

  15. Hi! I've been lurking without creating an account and when I saw this little June group I decided it was time to join! :)

I had my first meeting with a Dr on Jan 7th, went right into nutrition appts on Jan 17th and it was kind of a whirlwind after that with tests one after the other: Upper GI, EKG, stress test, ECG, sleep study...etc. I was cleared by all of the Dr's. The only thing wrong was sleep apnea, which was a bit of a surprise, so I've been using a CPAP machine since the end of March. I was cleared by nutrition in March after having lost 5% of my starting weight (part of my program instead of a liquid pre-op diet) and met with my surgeon last Friday to go over everything and sign consents. That made things more real! I'm awaiting surgery approval from insurance but don't expect any issues. My surgery date is June 17th!

I also love the Baritastic app! It definitely keeps me on track.
