  1. So I decided maybe a class would get me going with cardio. I took spinning for the first time yesterday. It was my first time on actual bike pedals since I was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis in 2014. I wore the most flimsy, thin-soled, circuit training shoes I had... not knowing. GOOD LAWD. I wasn't able to stand up on the pedals much because the pain was excruciating! I haven't had any pain in that foot since about 2017 so I had forgotten about it. The class itself was awesome and I am going to do it every Wednesday. But I went home and immediately ordered firm-soled cycling shoes and..... BUTT PADDED UNDERWEAR! I have bruises on bones in places I didn't even know existed. lmao.
So now I have a trainer twice a week, spinning once a week, and yoga once a week. Woooooots
Lol!!!![emoji1][emoji1][emoji1] I felt the same after my first class years ago and for a long time gave that spin studio the side eye and a wide berth!
I was forced back by 2 friends 2 years ago, after they supported me through my first week of butt pain, I've NEVER left!! The endorphins of spin is like none other!!!! I'm energized for the rest of the day!

So keep at it, especially when you find an inspiring teacher, it can almost mimic a cleansing spiritual experience!! I love it so much. It rescues from some dark days!

    Cheers and enjoy![emoji7][emoji7]

  3. My family and I travel a lot!! It's probably the most expensive item in our budget but cutting it out is not an option. That said, it sucks coming home and looking through the pictures and realizing I purposefully avoided having my pictures by being the photographer or taking the least amount of pictures. Or, taking mostly selfies (because as the annoying phrase goes, she's got a cute face) and no body snaps.

Anyway, just an absolute vain desire to have a scrapbook of a wonderful locale with my face and body ALL over it

  4. In the last couple weeks I've had two NSV's- one was pretty amusing and the other kinda made/makes me sad.
The amusing one was when a male friend of my husband and I came by unexpectedly. He didn't know I'd had surgery and hasn't seen me in about a year. (I'm about 8.5 months out of surgery and down 107 pounds, only 18 pounds from my goal weight.) He was shocked and thrilled at my progress. He was over for a couple of hours and probably hugged me 7 times and commented positively on my appearance just as many times, even using the phrase "you're so hot". (He's a bit brash, but this did not come from a disrespectful place, and neither my husband nor I took it that way. Obviously, I secretly loved it... who doesn't wanna be hot?!) ) Because he's a good friend of ours, my husband didn't seem bothered by any of this. But that's not the NSV... the NSV came later that evening when my husband asked about my wedding set. I've been ring-less for a few weeks because they are so large that they literally fall off my hand and aren't safe to wear anymore. After all of the attention from our friend, my husband was suddenly very concerned about my walking around "looking single". The real NSV was seeing him concerned about whether or not someone might try to snap me up. Not gonna lie- I've been riding that high for a while now! [emoji4]
The one making me kinda sad was an NSV I had never even thought of before. I was obese for over 15 years, and many people in my life today (including my husband) have never known me any other way. In the last couple of weeks I've taken a few group pictures for a variety of reasons, and each time someone has asked "what's your side"? (This is a reference to my "good side", which is a thing among women where they prefer to be photographed from a particular side that they deem to be their best look.) I've heard other women reference it or rearrange themselves in photos to catch "their side", and it occurred to me that nobody has ever asked me that in the last 15+ years. Not one single time. Now it seems to be a regular question, and it makes me a little sad... was I, like, a lost cause before? I wasn't attractive enough to have a "side"? Like, it didn't matter how you photographed me, it was going to be equally unattractive from any angle? Ultimately, it doesn't matter because I look different now and this is my new normal, but it brought to light that unconscious bias that people have about obese people... we are inherently unattractive... even if we're not. I'm not quasimodo... I'm an average looking woman, and have always been so- even when I was obese. But apparently I wasn't seen that way, and something about that makes me bummed when I think about it.
The unconscious bias is very present and sad!! We live in a very weight conscious (not looks conscious as anyone can be beautiful at any size!) society and nothing any advertising companies are doing has convinced me otherwise! The bias is so deep and severe one occasionally have to catch their breath when faced with it.

Congratulations on your success!! So happy for your NSV! It's heartwarming. You hubs better get those rings resized ASAP!!! [emoji1][emoji1]

  5. Yes, absolutely! So I am guessing you too will have to wait the 3mths for healing and then revised to the sleeve? I am so glad we have surgeons that have our best interest at heart! Good luck to you and I wish you the best, please keep in touch!
    Thanks so much!!
My surgeon wanted at least 6 weeks wait so the stomach gets a chance to heal and prevent a leak.
I wanted an August date to get summer out of the way.
Good luck as well and I will be watching out for your progress while keeping you updated![emoji253][emoji253]

So how do you feel? Is it like when we had the band placed? I had surgery on a Friday, went to church that Sunday but could not sit that long (2hrs) and came home. The next day I had classes and walk the campus and thought I would die but kept going. Really do not remember any other pain after those 3 days. Just wondering if the pain will be the same. Thank you so much!

Honestly less pain for me this time around. I remember being ridiculously exhausted for a few weeks after the insertion. With the removal, I had it done on a Friday and I went back to work on Sunday and never stopped. I was just relieved to have the band out!

Looking forward to the sleeve and I truly believe the band has emotionally/mentally prepared me for the sleeve so I can be thankful for the band about that. I just feel I am going into this surgery better equipped....we'll see.

  7. Hello all! I am new here. I went in for my second medically supervised diet today, and my Nurse Practitioner LOVED the custom layout I made for myself! I figured I would share it with everyone with an offer - if you want me to customize for you, I can do that! Hopefully this makes your days just a little bit brighter!

I can also make a fillable PDF if anyone prefers to fill them out on their computer and print them! What can I say, I am tech-savvy!
    Bariatric Planner.pdf
Thanks for your generousity!!! Will be using it! Surgery date is August 16th
Plan to use it for myself July 1st (my birthday and also "get ridiculous serious day"). All food funerals will be concluded [emoji17][emoji57]

  8. Were these adults talking to your daughter or her peers? If those adults, so so inappropriate and sick!
But I admire your ability to gain insight from your loved ones.

I second Healthy_life's opinion about knowing what you need to do and grabbing the bull by the horns to address them. Another month of losing such as this month does not appear to be a good thing based on how you feel right now.

You have come a long way and your journey has been inspiring for me personally. Your avatar and your matter of fact attitude reminds me of my favorite 90s MTV animated series "Daria" (probably dating myself [emoji1]).

That journey has made you rightfully scared of going back but this is where you trust yourself and your commitment to staying healthy. Difficult at first but you have your surgical team/nutritionist to guide you just like you did for the weight loss journey. Time to let go of fear which is not the same thing as lack of being vigilant.

Good luck and I remain inspired[emoji106][emoji106]

  9. I revised from Band to VSG 8 weeks ago
My insurance did not pay for the band 10 years ago -- but different insurance and a doctor who wrote up the request based on the esophogeal issues got an approval within a week.
No pre-op diet, no psych eval --- I met with the Nutritionist to go over the post-op plan and did a 1 hour orientation at the hospital --- so, had my surgery within a month of going in for an office visit to discuss reflux and weight gain.
Really happy I did it. I am down 20 pounds in 8 weeks (at age 61) and removal of Fluid from my band relieved the reflux almost immediately -- and it has not come back with the VSG.
So happy for you!! I can't wait to join you!! Please keep us posted!!!!

  10. Hopefully, no one has a husband like mine. While out on the boat with neighbors I overheard my dear husband say to them, "well once my wife has her WLS I'll have to cook for myself as she won't be able to eat what I like. So much for keeping secrets. Oh well. Still waiting for my insurance company for news.
Lol!! I'm sorry that made me laugh! I'm very proud of your sense of humor about dear husband's lack of discretion!!! Good luck with your insurance, fingers crossed for you!
