  1. It will get better!! Surgery is a serious trauma on the body! The entire process of it is like an assault/abuse (albeit necessary) to our system. You should feel better soon and Celebrate every moment you feel an improvement incrementally and over time, normalcy will come.

One day at a time or if possible, 1 8hr block at a time to feel something. Talk with both bariatric and surgical team to make sure you didn't miss anything or there's nothing you should worry about and if they say nothing, then believe it and continue your healing process.

Have a great evening. 🤞🤞🤞 Tomorrow is another day!

  2. I feel like between not eating, my anxiety and vision changes I just want to die, I am so upset but I can't even cry anymore I'm like numb.
CashmereandBones, I'll let the resident experts answer your questions as I am pre surgery, that being said, I want you to know that having An Anxiety Disorder magnifies anything that you would worry normally about by 100 fold! Know that your experience is being informed by your Anxiety and so it would seem like people didn't have post surgery experience like you are having as if you are an outlier and there's something significantly wrong. This is not true, just Anxiety Speaking. You won't regret this surgery, these post surgical difficulties ALWAYS passes and nothing Catastrophic would happen as it's in Anxiety's nature to Catastrophize things.

Just remember to do your mindfulness and deep breathing exercises, remind yourself why you did this surgery, all the good things in your future, talk to your psychiatrist/therapist about what they can do to help you adjust to these struggles. Talk with your surgical team so you don't have time stewing about the unknown or having anticipatory anxieties of the unknown.

Heightened anxiety about things real or imagined interrupts your healing process. Take it back to the basics. Your fluids, pain meds and do the best you can do and let your team do the rest.

You are not an outlier, you didn't make a mistake, death (especially untimely) is never better for things that are temporary. I bet you will feel differently a week from today hence don't take your temporary situation as permanent.

Take care and you have a host of support here cheering you and your journey on as we know definitely you will be an inspiration for someone else soon.

  3. Awwwwwww AZHiker!! So sad to hear that! I hope she pulls through. Nothing as sad as a "family member" being sick! Prayers being sent your way!!🤲🤲[emoji120]

Look through pictures of happy times with her and Celebrate all the moments she's had/has with you through thick or thin and take comfort in those moments.

So happy to hear emotional eating is not as effective post wls!! That is honestly a NSV in my opinion! Celebrate that as well[emoji106][emoji106]

Take care and thoughts and most importantly prayers are with you and Tess[emoji7]

  4. Before surgery I had a problem of nausea and discomfort under my breastbone. Occasionally I would have the burning in my throat. If I took my medicine before surgery it was controlled.
The symptoms I have now are different and I will do my best to describe it, as i find it difficult to describe.
So, all the sudden I will get an achy nauseous feeling. Its lower down and I doesn't last a long time, but comes and goes. It makes me feel like moaning but disappears fairly quickly.
I talked to the PA about it and she said it sounds like a stomach spasm. It now is becoming less frequent but still makes me feel sick at times.
I'm just wondering what this can be? I don't think it's emergent.
This honestly sounds like ulcers but yup, only testing can confirm.
Take care and I hope it gets better.

  5. Hello, I'm truly sorry you are going through this, sounds very emotionally exhausting but I have to agree with Briswife, this is text book mania/hypomania of Bipolar Disorder. Not only is she impulsive but also illogical and irrational. She can't see the obvious like you and other family members do and while her actions are deeply hurtful, I doubt she is doing it on purpose as her insight is impaired.
Any human being loves being manic/hypomanic and that's why some people with bipolar disorder are not very medication compliant as it takes their "high" away.

After a good Medical checkup/workup, she needs to see a psychiatrist and it may be easier for her to hear that from her PCP or any medical professional than you. I would encourage you to go with her to her doctor's appointments so they get a full picture.

This is going to test ALL your marital resolve but hang in and hang tough as this is a medical condition too like anything else but the stigma of psychiatric disorders is severe especially when all you see are "behaviors". It's not uncommon for mental illness to be triggered by anything that stresses the mind, body and soul.
Take care and Wishing you success in all areas.

  6. So I started this journey in November 2018 and finally received my surgery date on June 28 for September 19 I’m nervous and excited to start this new life journey.
Congratulations!!! I know about Nervous and Excited simultaneously! [emoji1]
We'll do fine, dreaming of all the possibilities of what weight loss will bring.
    Good luck on "the" journey.

  7. So, I'm finally ready to post a recent photo--actually taken just a few minutes ago. Here I am after losing 90 pounds from my pre-surgery weight and 76 pounds since surgery. Most people say I should stop, but I want to lose another 10-20 pounds. (I'll know when I'm at the right weight.)
I have been looking for a "fat" photo to show the difference, but I can't find one. I almost never allowed myself be photographed at my highest weight. Trust me, I look really different now!

You look great and most importantly, you look HAPPY!!!
    Congratulations!

  8. Hopefully your 1 week goes by fast! They told me to do two weeks of liquid with one small meal per day. I wonder how much we'll be suffering during this liquid stage though.
Although I've heard that losing weight before surgery is important to lower your risk, I just cant help but think about trying to squeeze in my favorite meals before the liquid diet [emoji23] Im pretty sure Korean BBQ is out the window once I get sleeved...

  9. I bought a car yesterday. Immediately afterwards I had my daughter take a picture of me by the car. Talk about someone not recognizing you... I Almost didn’t recognize myself in the picture! Whose legs are those? They look like sticks! OK so my face looks really weird on one side (hopefully just in this photo) but other than that I look like a different human being.

We all say we don’t want to brag. I don’t think us talking about our weight loss successes constitutes as bragging at all! We have all busted our asses to go through the surgery and maintain a healthy eating plan. We earned those bragging rights!

Absolutely earned those bragging rights! You look fantastic!!! Well done!

  12. My Nutritionist told me to avoid fruit juice like the plague because it’s full of sugar and may cause dumping. My surgeon told me that during the liquid phase I could have a little fruit juice because I’m not getting many calories elsewhere, and long as my sleeve can tolerate it. Well so far my sleeve has not had a problem with 100% fruit juice! I’m about to start soft food phase so I will have to watch caloric intake of fruit juice. I’m so happy I didn’t experience dumping because I don’t like sugar free drinks! I don’t like artificial sweeteners. I’m hoping a little treat of juice once a day won’t hurt me or am I being a rebel lol?
I am presurgery and can honestly attest to the fact that majority of my extra caloric intake is from fruit juice! I have never finished a can of soda in my entire life, I don't drink alcoholic beverages regularly and other than liking baked products, my severe vice is fruit juice as I confess that Water doesn't go down well in my throat especially after I moved to a state that the water is kinda hard no matter if I use water softeners and purifiers. I detest artificial sweeteners as well. So I love my juices.
That said, since starting this process, I've cut out juices (probably the most difficult thing I ever gave up!). I've not made any other severe diet changes (though definitely doing the head work) and I find myself losing a few pounds here and there.

If you are able to keep it at one juice a day, more power to you as that seems manageable (juice was my water previously and I imagine if I even give an inch, I fear I may backslide completely).

My nutritionist recommended HINT water as well as the infusing fruit water bottle thingy and it helped me transition from drinking juice to liking the taste of water and now I drink more water than I previously did, even uninfused [emoji1]

Best of luck in your journey[emoji106]

  13. Well, I hit the one year mark a few weeks ago.. with that said, I'm officially 7 pounds from goal weight (down 111 pounds from 238 to 127)... So in honor of the one year mark (that I actually FORGOT about when it came- kind of embarrassed to say that) here are some NSV that have made me smile over the past few weeks.
    1. I finally got my rings resized. I've been putting this off for as long as I could because I did not want to pay to have them resized multiple times. I wore 4 rings every day before surgery and weeks after they were too big. I resized one at Christmas time as a treat to myself but got the other 3 done last week.
    2. I stole a pair of jeans from my little sister (she's 12 years old) who wears 16 girls... well they're too big for me. So naturally, I wandered into GapKids and bought myself another pair... size 12 in girls! WHAT!
    3. I went on vacation to the beach and I wore a swimsuit... I haven't worn a swimsuit in 12 years.
    4. Finally... I turned 20 right before my one year mark so for my birthday I treated myself to something I've always wanted but was always too ashamed to buy in my size.... a Gucci belt.
These last 7 pounds are very stubborn and have been hanging around for a few weeks now but I hope to have them off by the end of July!
    Congratulations!!!!!![emoji122][emoji122][emoji122][emoji122][emoji122][emoji122]

  14. You can purchase the shoes if spinning is going to be a part of your regular workout routine , so I would say hold off until you are sure. Most people do not have the cycle shoes or butt pads. Cycling places like Sole cycle and Crank rents the shoes.
What SusieQ said! You can cycle with regular gym shoes until you are sure it's something you are going to be doing frequently.

Mousecat was the first to alert me that there are butt pads![emoji28][emoji28]
After a few weeks of regular spinning, everything that hurts improves.

  15. Same! Good luck!
    Secretly concluding food funerals [emoji85][emoji85][emoji85]
    I hear you.

But honestly we will be fine! Constantly reminding ourselves that we have eaten all of these foods before and look where it landed us. After a while on a healthy diet, we lose that zest for the unhealthy ones (so I hear!). Mentally prepare for the first week being arduous and once that scale states to speak to us, we'll get over the angst of comfort food.....and if not, getting slender will be worth it regardless!

    We'll rock this!![emoji112][emoji112][emoji112][emoji112][emoji106][emoji106]

  16. [mention=350221]mousecat88[/mention] Are you still going to spinning classes? (Or anyone?) I’m curious about them and terrified.
Cheeseburgh, honestly try it for a week at the very least!! Go with a friend, go at your own pace, try all the instructors at your gym to find one that inspires you as well as the music that flows through you and I promise you, you will enjoy it and become a spin fiend like people "we" gave that look to when they are rushing into the studio while you gently walk past to the treadmill or yin yoga (speaking for old pre spin self[emoji28]).

You should go at your own pace, don't compare, just enjoy music and the camaraderie of conquering hills with others.

Keep me posted and don't be terrified [emoji106][emoji106]
