I didnt have any set number of visits. Went to the info seminar, consult with surgeon, bariatric nurse, nutritionist, 2 3 hour classes, upper GI, phsyc consult and now that insurance is approved just need a date, some pre-OP tests and meet the surgeon again. All told, 2-3 months assuming I get a June date. Started process in March.

Totally get it. I work in the Loop, but live in Oak Park. I saw your other post of BCBSIL. I'll let you know. I believe they are submitting for me early next week. They told me to plan for 2 to 4 weeks, but they are overly cautious about setting expectations.

So I checked my BCBS app yesterday aaaannnnddd...... IM APPROVED!!! YAY!!! [emoji16][emoji8][emoji854][emoji7][emoji5]🤩[emoji847]
Took roughly a week, but of course it's a weekend now so itll be interesting to see how long it takes the office to call me to pick a date. So f-ing excited, dont know whether to laugh or cry or both.

If your office is anything like mine, to be honest regardless of what you say they're still going to talk about it when you're not there. So if you want to hang out with them just tell them you've decided you want to be healthy, you've decided to take care of yourself one step at a time. Because eventually as your losing weight they'll probably ask how you're doing it or what's your secret and you can say with pride and and internal snicker (because they dont know about the sugery) as part of your healthier lifestyle you've started working out. They'll respect the changes you're making and food won't be a topic anymore. Your workouts will be and with the progress you will be making there will be less snide remarks but if they escalate and poke more walk away, you dont deserve that.

In case anyone ever has this question in the future... it took about a week!! I'm approved!! I haven't gotten the call but my blue cross blue shield app updated to show my pre-approval is well... APPROVED!!! So f-ing excited I can hardly contain myself. And of course its Friday and I'll probably have to wait till Monday to hear from the scheduler for my date.

I'm 38 and wish I had done it 10 years ago. You're so young and have so much life left. I feel like I lost so much life being obese and rejecting outings and get togethers because I was embarrassed. Do what you have to do to live your best life.

I know it's nice to sit and chat while you eat but do you have to sit with them? Maybe they're not the kind of people you should surround yourself with if that's the way they're going to act. Do your thing and let them come to you.

Not that it's a necessarily a thing but just think, you'll be an old pro at the liquid diet part for post op.

Wait, I just saw the date of the post and your surgery date... Did you have your surgery?
-
I remember reading someones story that she went under thinking all was fine and woke up to be told they were unable to do the surgery because they didn't feel safe with the size of her liver. She was told to lose more weight I think. But like frust8 said, because you did it so early you've had plenty of time to recover. You should be fine
Here's the post

I'm planning to go back to a Keto household to support my new way of eating.
Let's prep since it's almost time: what checklists have you completed so far?
Me: all Vitamins purchased, apps downloaded (my fitness pa, bariatastic, this one), purchased a bunch of comfy transitions clothes-yoga pants and cute off the shoulder tops, personal measuring cups and plates, meal prep containers, bone broths, Jello packs, etc., after surgery scar gel....
What things have you done to prep? Let's exchange tips and ideas.

Ugh... my goodness!! You're so prepared, I haven't done anything but make notes about what I need to do and read the crap out of everything to mentally prepare myself for everything. I'm a wicked huge procrastinator and somehow it works for me. Everything always falls into place. But seeing your surgery date and hoping that's the date I get I'm feeling a little pressure to get my butt in gear. You're my inspiration!

Awesome! Yeah I work in the loop too. About an hour to hour and 15 minute commute one way, every day. This contributed to my weight problem. Plus i work sometimes 12-16 hours a day. So little time for anything after taking care of necessities around the house. My insurance lady said it would take about 2 weeks turn around and that I'm looking at the end of May or early June surgery depending on the surgeon. Fingers crossed 🤞

I am in the Chicago area... actually the suburbs but you know how it is. Easier to say Chicago than Huntley, people don't relate as much when you say the suburbs.

It's been 13 months for me.
I consider myself very fortunate although nothing is in stone yet so I hope I'm not getting ahead of my self.

Welcome [emoji16]
I'm still waiting for my surgery date and insurance approval which I also dont see an issue with. It was a whirlwind. I started in March and now I'm just waiting on approval. I've read such heartbreaking stories of people going through the process for so very many months. And jumping through so many hoops just to attain a better way of living. It shouldn't be so hard.

Have you called them? I would follow up. I finished all my stuff and was waiting on insurance and when I talked to them they were like oh yeah we'll get that today or next week. Sometimes they just need a gental nudge and reminder you're a person and not just a bunch of words and numbers on paper.

I'm hoping for sometime the first week of June. I have plenty of sick time accrued to take 6 weeks off and 2 weeks of vacation at the end of July. Going to take my time getting to know my new stomach.

Funny, I have two black cats too... stan and stewie. I'm getting the sleeve. Didnt want a foreign object placed in my body with the lap abnd and did not like the idea of moving my intestines around and having 2 separate staple points to worry about. What are you having?
Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app -
I dont have my date yet, waiting on insurance approval but the person who submits it doesn't seem too concerned about being approved. She said itll be late May or early June. I'm shooting for june. Gonna do this right and be off most of the summer. IM SUPER EXCITED!!
Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app -
I decided to go with the sleeve. One because I just kinda didnt like the idea of having my insides rearranged (but removing them is ok [emoji848]). And 2, I have a friend that had bypass and she kind of wishes she had the sleeve.

That's what I worry about. How soon my surgeon will be available, I hope it won't be too long. I'm not too good with waiting and I'm super anxious to move forward and I'm soooo close.
