    Keto Rash

    Keto Rash

I develop a rash on my body Every Time my carb intake drops below 20 for longer than a few weeks. I have logged in MFP for years, and it correlates. Always on the trunk of my body. ( I hadn't even heard of 'keto rash' but assumed it was some sort of inflammatory body reaction). It is a rare phenomenon. If I upped my carb intake by 20 or 30 grams it would go away. I have had it multiple times. It is more annoying than anything else so I will just deal with it this year. It is now annoying than anything else and get a Costco size jar of hydrocortisone cream. I also am going to ask my PCP for a dermatology consult. Currently, I have it on my back. I have had it on my back, chest, stomach and neck. Every body is different and you should always listen to yours and be aware, note changes etc.

Can we talk about food aversion

I feel the same way. Not complete aversion but when it comes to eating at this point for me it is all about the macros. I only three weeks out but I really haven't craved anything and during my group session I found it hard to relate to most of my post op peers...who had ton of cravings and still really enjoy food. I do still love to cook but I have been cooking forever and used to work in restaurants. Now I just cook for my family and eat what I need to eat.

    Puréed stage questions

I can tell you what I eat. I am 3 weeks out in soft foods stage one. Breakfast: 42grams oikos triple zero and 15 grams of unflavored protein powder Mid morning: protein shake boosted with protein powder so around 50 grams Lunch: I made lentil soup and boosted it with high protein tofu. I pureed it in my high-speed blender - so similar to refried beans in texture Dinner: low sodium deli turkey with a tsp of low fat mayo a little lemon juice and a teeny bit of basil. I chop the heck out of it and since this is my most textured meal it takes about 30 - 35 minutes to eat. I have another week of this stage then I switch to more complex soft foods...then in a few more weeks off the toddler train hopefully.

    Good stuck in throat?

I am in week 3 and I had this experience last night. I think my protein was too 'dry'. I took a digestive enzyme. It felt like my throat was closing almost.

    Getting Out Of a Stall

Congratulations @GradyCat! I am only post op week 3 so I don't know much - a former co-worker of mine was a 'slow loser'. She was actually the person who began to talk to me about wls...she told me that her son had vsg and hit his goal weight in 6 months, which ticked her off 😋. It took my former colleague who had bypass 18 months to reach her goal weight - she lost 120 pounds. To me, she is a total success story and I really admire her for sticking to her lifestyle and staying focused. She has been at goal weight for almost 15 years. I must admit though I tell myself each day I'm sticking to the plan and weight will eventually come off I am happy for and a tad bit jealous of the people who are all, 'I lost twenty pounds in two weeks post op'. I just keep telling myself just focus on the plan, but I think you are amazing, too. You are always upbeat and supportive.
  9. I am sort of in the same boat, so thanks for sharing @mousecat88. I went to OA once; it was okay. I am a Christian, but it wasn't my cup of tea. Perhaps it varies from meeting to meeting (like most things). I used to see a therapist just for my emotional overeating. My therapist took a sabbatical for six months, and I have been on a lookout for something in the interim. I read this article on VOX where two people mentioned https://www.foodaddictsanonymous.org/what-is-faa I am not sure if the organization is an offshoot of OA, but they do have meetings in my area, and I think I am going to try one this weekend. I have also thought about joining Weight Watchers to get some support.

    One Week Post-Op

Weight flies just as fast as time!

Congratulations!!!! You look happy, healthy and amazing. Thanks for sharing your regiment.
  12. I'm on week 3. My nut wants us to reach 600 calories a day. Today I aimed for 422. I am a bit under because I can never eat the entire portion besides yogurt in the am. I log everything on mfp, as best I can. I eat yogurt with protein powder for breakfast. Oikos triple. Mid morning i drink a protein shape boosted with protein powder. Late lunch i eat this lentil soup i made. High protein tofu, lentils, bone broth, carrots, onions, celery, garlic, spinach, 1 tsp olive oil for entire batch, fresh thyme Dinner: bibb lettuce, low sodium turkey breast, half a wedge of laughing cow My nut said to measure by volume (2oz cup or 1/4 cup). Not by weight. I weigh everything out to make sure i am hitting my protein goals. Oh and 2 SF popsicles

    Pre-Op Diet Adherence

I am a noobie...but I just wanted to say that I had a mini sugar free no crust cheesecake the first day of my pre-op diet. I also added soy sauce and teriyaki to my one meal a day of broiled shrimp and steamed broccoli - the first two days of my pre-op diet. I lost 10lbs pre-surgery and adhered hardcore to my pre-op diet after those first two days. We are all adults. We all make decisions. Some of those decisions have consequences. That is what life is. This won't be the first time nor the last when you are going to be faced with a choice of going out and what to eat or not to eat. My liver looked awesome. My surgery went well and super quick. I have adhered to my post op died 100%. I walk 4 miles a day and log everything in my fitness pal ( I plan on being back in the gym next week). I just started on purees - I am preparing everything from scratch. I am a little over 2 weeks out. I don't think having steamed, or broiled fish and steamed low carb vegetables mean you aren't taking things seriously at all. You seem educated and aware. Email your doc or pa - they will probably give you a thumbs up.

    Construction worker with concerns

I am almost at two weeks, and my doc says max I can lift is 15 pounds. I try to walk at least 3 miles a day, but in general, I am just more tired than average. I fell asleep at 830pm last night. I think at least 3-5 weeks post op - everyone is different. A physical job has way different demands than a desk job. I have a job where I am on my feet all day and have managed to secure 2.5 weeks off - that's also why I keep trying to push myself each day (number of hours on my feet). Plus, you will have to consume fluids every 15 minutes, I'm not sure how I am going to swing that, but I am sure I will - just like everyone else late next week. Best of luck to you. I hope you heal up super quick.

How much walking 2-3 weeks post surgery?

Glad you are doing awesome! I feel like 'nap mode' is the one thing no one told me about. I thought I would be able to get back to work next week but I am going to tell my surgeon at my post op appointment - early next week. Thanks for sharing your experience.

How much walking 2-3 weeks post surgery?

Everyone is doing amazing. Thanks for making this post I have been wondering too since I didn't really receive any guidelines besides walk. It really varies for me. I am about 11 days post surgery. We also have had a ton of rain which is killing me but on average I try to get at least 2 miles in the most I have been able to do is 4 miles. I am planning on trying to put in 4 miles the next three days cuz it's supposed to rain more than half of next week. Mall walking it is. I have been thinking of joining the gym... I have pushed myself a bit much twice and have felt tired the next day. I feel like it's important to start as early as I can for me at least, in the day because by three pm I am in nap mode.
  18. I am super happy that Joe Cross has reached his health goals. I also think it's fantastic that he had the financing to make a documentary about that journey and inspire people - but like many people in the 'diet industry' it is in my opinion that perhaps his initial goal in regards to his website/film has changed from educational/community building to one for profit. I don't hate, and he isn't the only person to do so. I have never been under the impression that he was vegan. Nor am I vegan myself. I believe like most of you all are saying that it goes well beyond what one puts in their body. One is not a vegan for two months imo. I know none of these people will ever publicly admit that their work is just a business, but it is a bit sad when someone who knows how hard it is to lose weight and keep it off chooses to profit off of people's hopes and desires — people who are in the EXACT situation that they were once in - just with less money. I have done one of his programs - paid for it, and there wasn't very much support for obese people at all. It was geared towards people with hypothyroidism.

    Extremely rude nurse

As a person of color whenever, situations like these occur (so sorry you had to deal with this when in so much pain and just in general) - in your mind you are always debating whether or not you should say something and how will it be received. Will other people see your side of the story or will they say you are blowing events out of proportion? It is even worse when you are ill. Don't assume that everyone has your privilege or your temperament (to the person who thinks this is a hoax). Lastly racist or xenophobic or big ass bullies need to be put in their place. I hope everything with your report goes smoothly and disciplinary action is taken. I also hope you are healing up well.

    April surgeries?

Hmmm. Let's see. I am still sore. I have timers on my phone set to keep me on target liquids wise. I am trying to get in 5k steps a day but always find that I am fatigued after being active sometimes. To be honest, I didn't have any expectations pre-surgery- I do think things will be more clear about my new reality once I am no longer in pain. So, I think things are going okay. I did put on about 10 pounds worth of fluids due to iv while in the hospital, but I am happy to say I reached my pre-surgery weight yesterday. How are you doing?

    Favorite restaurant meals post WLS?

I hear you - two words, "bliss point"... However, I worked in restaurants for a long time and there are a few options. I think restaurants specializing in seafood...easily can accommodate " steaming" or broiling of most proteins on their menu. Same with steakhouses. Mediterranean can also be a choice. Research. Call ahead. Go over the nutritional values. I just had surgery so I am not planning on going out to eat any time soon but in the past when eating out Bonefish Grill was my go to if I was able to select a place. Broiled shrimp. Steamed broccoli. Steamed asparagus. Lemon wedge.
  22. I didn't have a bp issue - glad it resolved itself...but I did lose 10 lbs on pre-op diet then gained 10 lbs due to iv fluids. I had surgery last Monday and it took me all this time to drop the fluids. Here is hoping that this upcoming week goes better and all us iv bloated kids can see what our weight loss is actually going to look like.
