  1. Are the dark jeans super-stretchy? I was able to wear my old leggings for almost two years because they just contracted to my new size. I am just now starting to replace them.
  2. I LOVE these! My favorite so far is Maple Bourbon Pecan, LOL. But I've tried at least 12 flavors and only hit one I didn't love. And even that one is okay, just not great. I love adding these to protein shakes and coffee.

    I messed up bad

Sigh. I was referring to the statement I originally responded to: "If you ate candy at only 5 days post op you would have been extremely sick." That was a blanket statement and my only point, from the beginning, is that you can't make that assumption about sleevers. Yes, as you said, it may happen, but it's by no means certain. I hope that clarifies what I was trying to say. And I agree with your conclusion. That's why I said: "It's still a really bad idea though and a form of self-sabotage." I'm not encouraging anyone to eat sweets. Just disagreeing with a statement that was too general.

Day 20 Post-Op & New to the group

Welcome! Don't worry about other people losing faster, I was kind of a slow loser too but the good thing is, my weight loss kept going and going. It took almost two years to reach goal but I got there! Just be patient and stick with your plan. Sorry, no insight on the heartburn issue because I've never experienced it. But I know a lot of sleevers have, so I'm sure someone will come along who can address that.

    Jealous Spouse

Are you really skinny or are you just normal now? Skinny kind of implies underweight or at least at the low end of normal weight. If your BMI is 24 as your profile says, you are perfectly normal. He might perceive you as skinny because of the relative difference in your size, but you really just reached a normal, healthy weight. Maybe ask him if there's anything in particular he would like to see you in? Like something you couldn't/wouldn't wear before but you can now? Either in public or in private (like lingerie and stuff)? Maybe if you can show him there's a payoff for him as well from your weight loss, and show him you care what he thinks, he'll calm down and be less insecure. Just a thought.

    What to do

After the sleeve, "full" can feel very different from what it was before surgery. So much so, that early on I didn't recognize when I was full and one of my first solid meals, I overate. That was utterly miserable and it taught me to watch for the subtler cues that my body was giving me. Before surgery, "full" meant my stomach was tight. Now, if I eat to that point, I'm in trouble. For me now, full is when I feel the sight pull of my restriction kicking in. You'll get more familiar with your new tummy over time. Just don't force too much in, like I did that once. The aftermath was awful!

2 days out after Gastric Sleeve

Yes indeed. I had a really hard time swallowing at first. In fact, I didn't eat anything for the first two weeks. I drank tiny ships of clear protein drinks (not shakes) and that was all the nutrition I took in during that period. Like you, it felt like everything got stuck and shortly after swallowing, I would feel a painful crampy feeling in my tummy. My doctor said it was normal and that we would only need to check it out if it didn't go away (because then it might signal a larger problem). It lasted until the 3rd week and then got better. Keep an eye on it, but you're probably fine.

    pain relief post op

Yes, I had quite a bit of post-op pain and I was still taking pain medication every 8 hours when I was 9 days out. There's a whole range of how much pain people experience post-op and you're just toward the higher end of the range, but still normal. I was too and fortunately my surgeon provided pain meds until I didn't need them anymore. Hang in there, it should get better soon. Hugs. 🤗

    All set

I'm praying you have a successful procedure and a quick recovery! Nerves are normal, it's major surgery after all. But you'll be fine!

    Hello

Welcome! I'm sorry you have to have a revision but I wish you a great outcome. At least you've been through this before, so you know the drill (although it's a different procedure, I know).
  11. No worries, it can take a while to start seeing the loss because you're still swollen and retaining water inside. It's too soon for the number on the scale to mean a whole lot. Stick with it, the pounds will start coming off!
  12. It depends on so many different factors - what's perfect for me might be way off for you. We all have different sizes, activity levels, dieting history, metabolisms, etc. I'd ask your bariatric team for some guidance and even with that, it may take some trial and error. It's counter-intuitive but sometimes people have to eat MORE to start losing again after a stall.

    Down 100!

Congrats, I can so relate! I made a whole post about how my body feels different to me now: I feel kind of disoriented in my new body... and my #1 was the same as yours, LOL.
  14. usually I agree, but I'm going to roll the dice on this one. 😁

    I messed up bad

That's why I said she wouldn't "necessarily" be sick. You can't make a blanket statement that someone who had the sleeve will be sick after eating sweets. It's possible, but not certain by any means. I never was and I'm not unique.
  16. Congratulations! I'm praying you have an easy, uncomplicated procedure and a quick recovery. 🤗

    Good news

Awesome! Be careful and eat slowly so you can get used to what solid food feels like in your tummy.
  18. When my weight loss slowed quite a bit, I was advised to add strength training. Not as a way to burn calories but because adding muscle tissue raises your BMR (the base rate of calories needed to keep your bodily functions going). I am NOT the athletic type so weight training was new for me. The pandemic hit right around then so I ordered a set of dumbbells from Amazon and found a very basic, easy, beginner's routine on YouTube that I could do consistently. It's a 15 minute whole body routine and it's not too strenuous. My weight started dropping again almost immediately. And it kept dropping until I was below goal. The investment of 15 minutes, three times a week, has paid off enormously.
  19. Well, I'm only two years post-op, but I haven't had any complications so far. I haven't developed GERD, haven't had a stricture or anything like that. Complications happen but I think you are overestimating how likely they are. A lot of people have the surgery, lose their weight and go on about their lives! Feel better, I know those first days pre-op can be rough. Hugs. 🤗

    Strange feeling..... COLD

It's pretty common after weight loss surgery. I'm also much colder than I used to be, wearing heavier clothes and using more heat in the house. My feet are especially cold and I sleep with an extra blanket just over my feet only. I'm not sure if it will go away or not, time will tell I guess, LOL.

What was your pre op diet?

Mine was 10 days of protein shakes only, with the last day being clear liquids. It was probably the hardest part of the whole process for me.

    NO pre-op Liquid Diet...Anyone else?

My cousin had a bypass at the same time I had my sleeve. When I asked him how he was finding the pre-surgery liquid diet, he had no idea what I was talking about. He went to Benihana's the day before his surgery, LOL. Different doctors take different approaches.

    Slight Cough

It's possible it's irritation from the tube placed down your throat during the operation. Definitely ask your surgeon, especially if it doesn't clear up soon but I always get this when I have surgery. It's usually gone within a week. Edit to add: did they give you an incentive spirometer (plastic tool that you blow into, to exercise your lungs). If so, make sure you use it, it always helps my breathing to get better, sooner.
  24. I got the sleeve almost 2 years ago and hunger has not been a problem so far. In the immediate aftermath of surgery, I had no appetite at all. VSG removes the part of the stomach that produces ghrelin (the hunger hormone) and it will usually result in less hunger (at least for a time). My appetite slowly returned over the next year but it's still much lower than it was pre-surgery (lower in both frequency and urgency). At this point, I will get hungry if I go long periods without eating but even a small snack will calm my hunger for hours. Believe it or not, even taking my two daily vitamin chewables will calm my appetite for an hour. Other things that work to calm hunger include: a cup of tea or coffee, flavored water, sugar-free popsicle or broth. I'm a little weird in that I don't eat full meals, instead I eat mini-meals throughout the day. It amounts to about 900-1000 calories in total and since I'm in maintenance, I don't at all restrict how often or how much I eat. I am still careful about the quality of the food I eat but that's the only type of restriction I practice. I don't know how my appetite will progress in the long term, but I have definitely not been tormented with hunger since my surgery. Everyone's experience is different and you might be hungrier than I've been, but you should know that not everyone has hunger issues. I wish you the best in making your decision!
  25. It was about six weeks for me. At that point I could move without pain, sleep easily, get in and out of a car, etc.
