Foodies - honestly how bad is it?

Either surgery does take work to be successful. That is a fact. I am more than a year out from sleeve and I have never had any stomach or bowel issues. I have made online friends that have had the same surgery and none of them have had these issues either. I love to cook and I also love to eat. I do not eat many carbs while in weight loss mode but I do know that I am able to eat small amounts if I so desire. EAting more than just a small portion of anything sweet makes me a bit nauseous. I think that once you reach maintenance you will be ok eating small amounts of carbs. What may surprise you is that once you go without them for awhile you may no longer crave them. If sugar is your thing you may need to keep it to something like special occasions only. Once I started eating better quality food and started losing weight, the “junk” food lost its appeal. This is all honest and true for me. Goid luck!

    Best Protein Supplements

Syntrax Nectar chocolate truffle. Hands down. Plus it is made from whey isolate which is the higher quality protein. Syntrax also offers fruity flavors. I think that the bp store here offers sample packs. I have also found that I like the slim Fast high protein shakes. Creamy chocolate, caramel latte and mixed berry yogurt smoothie. They all have 20g of protein. You can get them at Walmart or Sams.

    Venus insufficiency in leg

I have not but, my husband has venous stasis in his right leg from an illness that caused some damage to the bottom of his heart. He has had it for years now. His leg swells off and on along with his foot but it has not been life threatening. What he has may be totally different. It is something that is common in the elderly. The veins in his leg have lost some elasticity. He is supposed to wear compression hose but rarely does. Try not to worry yourself too much although I know that is easier said than done Good luck and keep us posted.

    Moving

Have you tried looking on healthgrades or vitals site? I moved to a new area about 6 months after surgery. I have been able to find several different types of drs here that are excellent. I found them by reading reviews from other patients online. Good luck!

    Liquids

I am not sure if they would stretch the pouch out. I do k ow that liquid does not pass through the pouch of a sleeved patient like they do that of a bypass patient. Sleevers still have their pyloric valve intact.

    Oatmeal

I should have been a little more clear in my post. I was at the 6 month mark when I started adding more carbs to my diet and that is when my wright loss came to a screeching halt.

    Oatmeal

Well for the first year I included carbs as well. I only lost 69 pounds. I also had many big changes over the past yeAr. I am fine with losing slow. Just not ready to be in maintenance quite yet. My sister passed away at the start of my journey and then my mother just passed in February. So, during those times of heavy grief I wasn’t really following any plan. I had not lost anything since September which was my 6 month point. i also made a big move about 6 months ago. I have a new dr here in my new location that told me to go back to getting about 1 cup of food at each of my 6 small meals each day. Plus be sure that everything that I do eat contains more protein than carbs. The fact is that I am still eating carbs. I have not cut them completely out. Oatmeal is ridiculously high in carbs but, you have to do whatever you think is right for you. I don’t worry about calories or fat. The only thing that I look at is the carbs versus protein on labels. Now I am finally back to losing weight again.

    Oatmeal

There is no doubt in my mind that oatmeal is very nutritious and even high in fiber. It just does not fit into the protein first rule that bariatric patients are supposed to live by. I love steel cut oats myself. Still I will be waiting until I am in maintenance to enjoy occasionally. Carbs are carbs when thinking in terms of losing weight. I am going for optimal weight loss. 🙂

    Oatmeal

Remember that the golden rule of wls is protein first. If we eat the required amount of protein first at every meal, I doubt that there will be room left over for oatmeal. Imho oatmeal is best left for maintenance. just my two cents

    Oatmeal

While oatmeal is considered very healthy for most people, it is way too high in carbs for losing weight. Is oatmeal on your post op eating plan that was given to you? Its strange because I just saw a new dr last week. He used oatmeal as an example of what not to eat while losing weight.

    Starving post op!

Yes. I am just over 1 year out and I never lost my appetite at all. I too was very disappointed. It has been a struggle for sure. Hang in there and good luck!

    optifast issue

I was on optifast for one month preop. I used all strawberry shakes (premixed). My husband and I both loved them and never had an issue. I agree with the poster above. Maybe the headache was caused by something else and was just coincidental. Always best to check with your dr though.

    Sick during surgery

You may want to give your surgeon a call to see if they will move forward with the surgery when you are sick. So sorry and good luck.

https://www.unjury.com/products/opurity-vitamins they also have a high protein chicken broth that is pretty tasty for liquid diets. You could probably use regular chicken broth pre op but the high protein was great post op.

I use and like the opurity sleeve optimized and the opurity calcium citrate. Both are chewable and I like that all ingredients are us sourced. Nothing in them is from China

    IT'S OFFICIAL VSG ON MAY 25TH!!!!! :-)

Well, my energy level was a little low. The optifast shakes are formulated to be complete nutrition so they contained everything that I needed. Will you be on liquids only? If so, for how long?

    IT'S OFFICIAL VSG ON MAY 25TH!!!!! :-)

Actually, I had to do the liquid optifast diet for one month before surgery. No clue why I said 2 weeks above. I was so nervous about going without food for that long. I made it through alright though.
