  1. Not sure about the sugar free hard candy. I will tell you that I have had a few sf butterscotch candy since surgery. I would think that as long as you are careful not to swallow them whole it would be the same as sf liquid. bone broth is also available at most grocery stores and will give you about 10 grams protein per serving. Warm liquids are easier for me to handle.
  2. It is more important to get your fluids than your protein at this point. Try a different brand of shake. You can also get fairlife milk from grocery store and drink it instead of shakes if you just can’t tolerate them. I had no problem with the premier protein shakes pre op. Had my revision to rny last Friday and I am not able to keep premier protein down at all. I switched to syntrax and fairlife milk. Another thing is to make sure you are just slowly sipping your shakes. Like one ounce in 15 minutes or so. Go too fast and they will come back up due to lack of anywhere to go once your pouch is full. Hang in there and keep us posted.

    Bundle of nerves

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery! I understand the nerves. I had sleeve back in March 2018. When you check in at the hospital, ask the anesthesiologists for something to calm your nerves. Keep thinking of how much better you will feel and how much healthier you will be. I had zero nausea with my sleeve. Plus they give you anti nausea meds in hospital and a script to use at home. Try to stay busy and keep your mind off it. You will be just fine.

    Happy Thanksgiving

So sorry for your experience. I can only imagine how hard it is to deal with all of that. Mine was ok. I was 6 days out rny revision and hernia repair. I went to son and daughter in laws. Ate my jello while everyone else ate. I was ok with it and did enjoy the company.

    Salad?

3 months for me as well. A salad is what I am craving most of course.

    5 days post op

I can sooo relate to you. My same surgery was last Friday. I get dizzy and am very weak from the extreme low calories I am consuming. Hang in there. We will get through this and be better for it.

    hungry

So sorry, Emma. Fingers double crossed that you get good news next week. Being hungry is no fun at all. I could see why your dr would say that it is a good sign your appetite is back. Hang in there! You are on the home stretch now

    No leak test done?

Give yourself time to heal and wait until you are eating dense protein. You will feel restriction. If food were mushing out into your abdomen, you would definitely know it. Yourlungs get weak during surgery due to the anesthesia. If you use that handy dandy spirometer that they gave you for lung exercises, you should bounce back pretty quickly

    No leak test done?

I really think that a lot of these post op books are just never updated. I had sleeve surgery plus just revised to bypass. I talked to my surgeon both times about the leak test. I was told both times that I would be thoroughly tested during surgery and that there was no need for the other leak test. I never had a second test either.

    Sleep apnea & bariatric surgery

I may be mistaken but I think that the people I have seen talk about being required to treat ahead of surgery were required by their insurance to do so. You may want to call your insurance company on Friday to find out. Good luck!

    keeping my head up

((((( Emma ))))) I wondered how you are doing now. I am so sorry that you are still in the hospital. I have to say that you look pretty good for what you have been through. I know it’s got to be hard but, I know that you can do this and that the rewards will be great! Hang in there and I too will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Please continue to update

    Dr. Doesn’t require protein?b

Pretty sure that many of us here have watched at least a few of his videos. Agreed that he is interesting and entertaining. I do use bone broth, fairlife milk and some other high protein liquids as well. Not just the premade shakes.

    Crazy personal question

Sounds like maybe she is a bit jealous of your weight loss to me. This is also the type of person that will try their best to sabotage your efforts. Dont let her hurt your feelings. She is the one with a problem. Not you.

    Shortness of breath/ light headed

I had this post op. Using my spirometer to exercise my lungs helped tremendously. I am day 5 today and no more lightheaded/ shortness of breath.

    november sleeve

FWIW- I asked my dr the reason behind not using straws. He said that the air you pull in before the liquid creates gas in the pouch. This causes unwanted pressure.

    Diet after bariatric sleeve

Please follow the plan that your team set for you. If you advance your diet before you are supposed to their could be dire consequences. You are lucky that you are having very little issues but trust that your body needs to heal before moving on to the next phases. If you look around this forum you will find that the people that are most successful are the ones that stuck exactly to plan.

Wow. I am following this thread because this has me curious now too.

    Dr. Doesn’t require protein?b

Hi. I couldn’t imagine any bariatric surgeon not requiring their patient to get protein in post op. It is very important for healing. The cardinal rule for bariatric patients post op and for life is “protein first” i had sleeve in 2018 and revision to bypass last Friday. Both surgeons required 60grams of protein post op. Good luck with your research and hope that helped.

    Under rib pain

Right side under ribs could be your gallbladder if you still have it. Very common after bariatric surgery.

    Gastric bypass or sleeve

Everyone has to do what is right for them. There is much new info coming out on the dangers of long term use of ppis. It really has to be a personal decision. No right and no wrong here.

    Gastric bypass or sleeve

Sorry but you are terribly misinformed. There Is much higher risk of hiatal hernia with sleeve. I was educated and knew that risk going in.

    Pre-op liquid diet

I agree. Nothing much good about it so we just have to soldier on and get through it

    Pre-op liquid diet

One more option is Fairlife Milk. Great option for those that can’t tolerate the shakes plus it is good for lactose intolerance

    Pre-op liquid diet

One more thing that helped me pre op was to freeze my shakes. I would eat them with a spoon and it made me feel as though I were eating.
