uh oh...surgery on october 1st and the past two days I have felt I'm coming down with bronchitis..you know that familiar feeling and and started hacking up phlegm. 🤑 Going to try to see my pcp tomorrow to get some meds because don't want to be under anesthesia and get some sort of coughing fit or not be able to breathe. ARGH

Got my date. October 1st! Good luck to all! I pretty much thought this wasn't happeneing and have been eating terribly. Starting the pre-op liquid tomorrow!!!

So True our insurance kicks us out of the hospital. Also, in US, the hospitals are the dirtiest places full of mrsa. they want you out of there early for your own health.

I'm 48 and my surgeon said one day in the hospital. Maybe that depends on the time of day I have my surgery. I know my surgeon does 4 procedures a day.

Hi Folks, I know there are probably many threads on this but not having luck finding. I was just approved for bypass today and bypass is new to me. I also switched from sleeve due to my bmi as well as doc finding that I have acid reflux. What kinds of vitamins do you take that keep you in the healthy zone as far a feeling energized and getting good labs back and minimal hair loss? Thank you!

Hi @veisor, Sure........I've went back and forth and for the most part was Pro-sleeve..Back in April of 2019 my surgeon recommended bypass but said sleeve would be okay and my PCP said sleeve....The sleeve seemed easier, less complications. sure there was the increased acid relux risk with sleeve but I've never had that so not a risk for me. But for me, someone who is overweight not from overeating but from pcos and other things, somone who diets and can't lose a pound, i needed the true metabolic change that the bypass brings. Also....in the pre op stuff they did discover i had acid reflux, although it never presented itself to me. additionally, my bmi is 50...so I want the proven long term results that the bypass brings. If you know of anyone or follow these boards, for some reason many people gettting the sleeve gain the weight back or have to have a revision. Not everyone, mind you..but a lot. My pre-op psychologist said it best. Whatever surgery you decide on, you have to believe it's the one for you or it won't work. She said don't get the sleeve with any doubts in your mind. Don't get the bypass with any doubts in your mind.

Make sure your protein shakes don't have aspartame. I switched to aspartame free and the palptations stopped......

Not to be rude but I think everyone's poo stinks whether they have had surgery or not...but the smelly gas does concern me..............

Thank you for posting your story. Aetna also denied me after I had been pre-certified, received verification it was covered, completed the entire plan with my surgeon and spent $4500 on pre-op stuff. I was devastated and posted in another thread here. My doctors office actually said, come get your files and find another doctor. The patient advocate actually told me that. I had to summon all the strength I had. I complained to my doctors off, the actual surgeon, aetna, and my employer. it turns out that the person in the doctors office didn't submit my appeal properly and I assume didn't want to get in trouble and thought I would just walk away. Once they appealed I was approved in 24 hours. Good for you for staying positive and I agree, we do not let insurance companies, or even incompetent drs. office staff dictate our own health!!!!

Hello, joining y'all. Just found out today I'm approved for Gastric Bypass. It's been a stressful journey where i initially wanted the sleeve but after research choosing the bypass. Yay! They said sometime in October and I'll have a definitive date next week.

***Update*** Guys, I’m so happy I could cry. After really going full scorched earth/raising Cane with Aetna, my dr.s office, and with my employer, I found out today I’m approved. I really can’t believe it. Still don’t have a date but this is fantastic news. Thanks Everyone and I’ll be seeing you online here with probably more questions. It was not easy, had to complain to the business office supervisor, the surgeon directly, I saved all of my correspondence and had an extensive timeline for everything and named everyone I spoke with at Aetna. If they approved me only to shut me up, I’ll take it. This from getting initial “Sorry you are denied come pick up your paperwork”. I found out my advocate didn’t know how to file and appeal and that’s why she told me that.

Thank you for sharing your story. I'm growing weary. Yes, I'm still in the fight and it feels like I'm doing my dr's office job for them too. Last ditch, I got my employer HR advocate on the case. At least i know I did everything I could do....I've just 100% completed everything and I cannot bear to start over. And I'm in the middle of a job change so who knows what my insurance will be. I'm hanging on to the job I hate because I want this insurance thing to play out. I'm miserable fighting this. I looked today at our insurance plan documents and there is nothing about IOQ even today. It's unfair that they put this on their super secret plan documents. I have two letters from them staying IOQ not required as well. hanging in here for now but will switch courses soon....

Hello, I'm the original poster - Latest update. Well last week I raised such cane with my dr's office and the insurance company. I decided to take control rather than let them rule my life. Today I get a call from the insurance company. They received my appeal and did research. it turns out there were some errors in the plan docs which caused confusion. They said "Congratulations!" I am covered and it DOES not have to be an IOQ, although they prefer it. Whoo hoo. But then they told me I had to get with my dr's office to tell them to resubmit with the clinical information showing I went through all of the steps. So I happily sent an e-mail to the business office and told them what to do. I blind copied in my surgeon because I just don't trust them.....(They were so quick to give up on me) I told them to kindly re-submit and gave them the person's name (RN) to reference. I basically hand delivered their job.....happy, I went on with my day.... then......... 5 minutes later........ The insurance lady I just spoke to called me back...and said...Oh I meant to tell you..... I did mention your surgeon and hospital doesn't have to be an IOQ but if an IOQ is available in your geographic area you have to use them. I went to my handy google maps. IOQ is 6 miles from my house but the surgeon I selected and have already paid $4200 is 28 miles. So.....I guess there is a chance insurance could deny again.. The funny thing is when I was first searching for doctors, I checked out Orlando Health (the IOQ) and they never called me back..... arghhhhh...the confusion and agony of waiting. Meantime the hurricane was coming and i have been stress eating here in Florida. Thanks for listening...

the nutritionist at my surgeons office said to avoid them, as they don't work for people of size They work for normal weight people. I really want to use them though as an alternative

Hi Folks, I've been on these forums for a few months with the intent to have the sleeve procedure. I just went through all the pre-req scans, appointments, counseling sessions. etc...I'm so ready for the surgery but am dealing with some insurance drama (other thread..) but......starting this thread because my doctor called me the other day to discuss my upper GI and said I had GERD ( I never knew at 48 years of age I had that and acid reflux..who knew??) and also pointed out that people with my bmi have better results with the bypass. Soooooooo.....Now, I feel like I should get the bypass. My only hesitation before was that it's a bit more complex and frankly, I'm lazy when it comes to vitamins. I'll just have to be extra diligent. Anyone else here like me starting the journey to get the sleeve and switch??
