Alwzla8 reacted to girlaccountant in April 2019 Surgeries!
UPDATE: had my first post op appt today. I was sleeved 4/8. Surgery weight was 225, today was 210. Down 15lbs. The body analysis shows that was mainly Fluid loss, but doctor said that’s normal. He cleared me to start purées stage Saturday. Never in my life have I ever looked so forward to mashed potatoes or scrambled eggs!! 1 more day of liquid. Water still a struggle. I used to drink 80-100 ounces a day, now 40-50 is about all I can manage on top of the Protein Shakes, broth and yogurt. My doctor said it will get easier in a couple more weeks when the stomach swelling goes down. Hope you all are doing well on your journey. Feel free to ask me anything! Thanks for all your support!!! 😘

I really appreciate all of you sharing your experiences! I am a bit of a lurker! My surgery date is 4/22 so this is my last weekend before "the change" ..... A bit worried, nesting for sure... Trying to get the yard work done the pantry cleaned the junk drawers cleaned out etc.... worried about taking time off from work... lots of moving parts and emotions right now.

I was sleeved on the 9th and had a surprise hernia repair:)
I weighed 242 at the dr office on my last visit
    Day of surgery 229
2 days after I came home I made the mistake of getting on the scale and it said 235, from all the fluids and such
Weighed myself today and it said 221:)
I am only able to wear sports bras and still very uncomfortable wearing pants so I am living the sweatpants life. My surgeon told me that I could go back to work Monday but my job won't let me back without a dr note UGH.. so I have to wait for my follow up on Weds. I am still on a liquid diet and can't go to thicker Fluid until next week then a week after that I can finally go to mushy food and I have to stay on that for 6 weeks:(
    Best wishes to all:)

April 4th VSG here, just passed the two-week mark.
Surgery date weight was 330, now I'm down to 312 as of this morning (my "official" two week weigh in) and now my clothes are starting to get very loose.

Great weight loss! Congratulations! I’m still on full liquids until the 24th-ish... At my appointment the other day, I was told I could test the waters a little with the blended/puréed stage. We went out for dinner and I had some split pea Soup. It was so good. Having something with real flavor was fantastic!!!!! I will be happy once I get to the soft foods stage, but that’s not until 5/8 or so for me.

Congrats on hitting movement goals and the restraint to have mint tea and Water while out and about! I need to improve with walking, which is one area from which I suffered prior to surgery.

    Good luck!

Hi all! So glad to see that everyone who has gone seems to be on track for a great recovery. I was on a self imposed social media fast--I do this from time to time.
I am doing well, my surgery was last Thursday (4/11), and my follow up with the surgeon is tomorrow. I was able to hit my protein/fluid goals consistently since day 4. Days 2 and 3 were close but not quite there. Also not needing to sleep/nap, which was an issue for the first few days, but, it's a surgery, so...
I've been walking on my treadmill, not fast, but consistent. Up to 30 minutes straight.
I drove for the first time yesterday, and that went well.
I met my partner in town last night, he was having a drink after work, and ordered a salad to go. I had some hot mint tea, and Water. It was good to be out and about amongst people.
Good luck to everyone who's recovering and whose surgeries are coming up soon!

    Good morning beautiful people!!
I had my surgery 11 April Lap Band
Before: 3 weeks of liquids for preop and lots of anxiety!
Disclaimer, what is for my body may not be for your body...
Before surgery, I talk to so many professionals; anesthesiologists, doctor, family, nurses I didn't remember much! Lol... So just I prayed
After: the surgery was a success! I stayed overnight. The good: it was the best idea to stay overnight, the nurses help with the medicine Doses and getting used to walking breathing through and using the restroom. (Little things)
The bad & ugly: The anesthesia side effects-the gas is so uncomfortable (dont force it to pass, it hurts more). Incision pain only when things are on placed on them like pants or when its accidentally bumped.
Ladies, because of the locations of the incisions think about sports bras. I wear wire bras most of the time and they were on my incisions-painful... Here I am, 1 week post op and am finally able to wear a real bra.
    Tips:
Take your time, LOVE yourself-speak your success in existence!
    Stay hydrated!!
    Walk!
    Have a plan, for phase1, 2, 3 and beyond.
If you have any specific questions please let me know!
    Blessings and you will succeed!!

the straight lines to the left tell me this is some kind of contact dermatitis..are you using a heating pad? changed your detergent? wearing new clothes or underwear? sitting next to an animal your allergic to?

It was an allergic reaction to lovonox. I was allergic to my blood thinner!! I am now on meds to heal this rash heal. But I will not continue my blood thinner. I was not near heating pad. No new detergents, nothing out of norm other than the Bariatric meds. So ahh ha!! Now just to heal:)

Hi! I had the sleeve at a lower weight. I'm 5'4" and my highest weight was 233. When I started my preop liquid diet I was 216. Weight was 202 on surgery day - Aug 6 last year. I steadily lost around 10 pounds a month and currently weigh 132 pounds. Went from a size 18 to size 6. Surgery was a great success for me. I was one of the lucky ones that never had any problem tolerating any foods, no heartburn.

I had no vision problems on the patch but once I removed it I went through “withdrawal” and had to steal my mom’s reading glasses! I kept feeling earthquakes too. So weird as I’ve had the patch several other times and never had this rebound effect.

Finally lost a little Fluid but I am still retaining. It’s a no pants party in my house cause pants make my sensitive skin feel worse and my incisions still hurt. I’m usually healed by now so I’m guessing it’s autoimmune related.

Weighed myself...I actually forget what I was at surgery (205ish) but I’m officially out of the 200s and at 199. I got the surgery for GERD so my doctor didn’t expect me to lose much but I do need to get down to about 150-160. Dying for some real food. I’ve snuck a slice of cheese here and there.

I take all my meds as small pills or capsules. Lots of googling told me capsules dissolve with just Water so they don’t need a ton of stomach acid. I tried opening them into apple sauce and basically wanted to die. So I just take 12 capsules and a pill or two over the course of about an hour. I coughed up some of the capsule today and it was disgusting but otherwise it’s a success.

GERD is essentially gone. I hiccup quite a bit and that’s a mild symptom but no real acid except some of one of my pills earlier.

Sorry I haven’t updated, I have had a rough couple of days since my surgery.
I had my bypass on Thursday morning. My incision pain has been minimal.
My problem has definitely been nausea. I was supposed to go home Friday, but I was so nauseous and in pain, they kept me yesterday. Yesterday was the worst day. I probably threw up 14-16 times. It was scary because it looked like blood when I threw up. They tried at least 4 types of anti-nausea medicines. But I still couldn’t even keep Water down. They kept me last night so they could give me IV hydration.
So now it is Sunday morning. I am SO hoping that I will go home tomorrow. I haven’t thrown up since about 8:00 last night. I have been able to take tiny sips of water.
I have always had trouble with nausea after surgeries, but this has definitely been the worst.
I am trying to think of long term results of this surgery.

Maybe my pump is like your patch, I’m still taking it slow on the bending and moving but the top of my stomach to right above my belly button is all taped up because of the tubes to the pump going in under the skin.. it is supposed to be done and empty tomorrow and I can un tape and pull this thing out!! I don’t have an vision issues I do hope that goes away soon for you!

    @Alwzla8

Luckily I have very little pain left, just if I move wrong. My biggest issue is some blurred vision when looking at something up close. 98% it is a side effect of the scopolamine patch. I am hoping it will resolve soon.

Mine isn’t as bad, not sure if my pain was from the unexpected hernia repair:( My ON-Q pump runs out tomorrow so it will be nice to have all the tape and bandages off my stomach!! I definitely have learned take small sips:)

Did they use glue or give you stitches? I took a shower the next day as well even with the ON-V pump. I also was glued lol

So jealous ha ha! I can start purées in 3 weeks!! My pain is in the top part of my stomach I guess with the hernia maybe that’s where they did work? I also took a shower and that was fun trying to hang this bag with the med pump outside so it didn’t get wet and be in the shower at the same time:) I texted hubby and said I’m a big kid now since I got dressed all by myself lol.
