    Absorption of Antidepressants?

Prior to RNY, I was taking buproprion (Wellbutrin) extended release. My doctor changed my prescription to regular buproprion twice a day. I've had no problems with absorption in the four months since I switched to regular dosage. There may be others who are much further along post-surgery who can share their experiences, too.

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

I am down 50 lbs. total, about 38 of them (too) post surgery, so I am now at the cusp of "overweight/obese." I work out four times a week and maintain a rather bland repetitive diet. I had RNY so I am mortally afraid of having anything with sugar in it for fear it will cause dumping. I think I am a slow loser and hope I lose another 25 pounds or so, so I will be at a healthy weight.
  3. After RNY, I had to switch from Extended Release medication to twice-a-day meds. They are working fine, no problems.
  4. I was throwing up or getting very nauseous with almost every shake and powder I tried -- Premier, etc. Then for two months, I drank Isopure Apple Melon protein drink (40 g. of protein) and loved it. But it was too expensive to maintain -- $43 for 12 drinks. I've now switched to unflavored Genepro, at the recommendation of my nutritionist. I will be adding it to flavored water.
  5. I'm three months post-RNY surgery and have been crushing my non-WLS medications since surgery (and opening capsules). I take three pills in the morning and four at night. Yesterday my nutritionist said I could try swallowing the capsule I take, but should now chop my pills into little pieces. I guess I'd rather just keep crushing them because it's easier. For those who are taking daily medications, how long before you were able to swallow pills whole? Did you feel nauseous (one poster wrote she felt sick for two hours after swallowing capsules)? Or are you not having any problems?

    Zofran?

I had the patch right after surgery, but now I'm three months out so don't have one anymore. I will ask my surgeon about that. Thanks.

    Zofran?

I was prescribed 8 mg. and unfortunately it hasn't helped at all when I've suffered nausea bouts. The bouts are unpredictable and can occur after I've drank a protein shake or eaten something that, until then, never had bothered my stomach before. I see my surgeon for a checkup in two weeks and will mention this again. For now, I just have to ride out the nausea which sometimes lasts 14 hours or so.
  8. Does anyone else have a problem with dry mouth at night? I'm two weeks out from surgery and am having a terrible time with it. I'm not getting enough water in due to nausea but on the days I have, I still have struggled with the problem. Any tips? I've ordered Xylitol because I am worried about my teeth decaying.

    Dry Mouth at Night

The one thing that has lessened my dry mouth is propping my pillows so that my head and chest are higher than the rest of my body. For some reason, the dry mouth is less. But still not resolved -- I awaken in the middle of the night almost every night and have to sip water.

    When could you tolerate salad?!

I'm three months out and have had no problems with lettuce but apparently because I've had my gall bladder removed, I can't process fats well and get sick from the salad dressing. Salad without any dressing? Ugh. So for now I have to give it up unless and until I can tolerate dressing again.
  11. I am six weeks out and am only eating tuna (including ahi tuna) and ham. I have heard too many people say that chicken is too dry and roast beef is too tough. I will wait a few weeks before attempting them.

I had my Gastric Bypass reversed 😞

One study surveyed a clinic that had performed over 900 RNYs. Only 6 required a reversal.

    Adhesions and RnY?

My surgeon was not concerned that I had had my gallbladder and appendix removed two years prior. My RNY surgery went very smoothly, no problems.

    Dry Mouth at Night

I've been using Xylimelts every night, and it seems to be helping. I wake up with dry mouth around 2am and pop one in my mouth, against my gums, which induces salivation. Not a lot, but enough to supposedly reduce the risk of tooth decay. The Xylimelt tablets last for about four hours.

    Seafood

I am in the puree stage, and have pureed lobster, scallops, fresh tuna, and clams. They tasted great, and I had no problem eating them. I, too, am reluctant to attempt other meats right now.

Me too! My "goodbye food" meal was $60 worth of sushi!

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

Just got home! Had RNY surgery yesterday. I couldn't be happier. No nausea, practically no pain, and am able to drink water without difficulty. Apparently, I had a hiatal hernia that needed repairing, too. The only weird thing so far is that I can't burp intentionally like I used to in order to release air after drinking. I have to wait until my stomach decides the time is right, then it finally just happens. A little uncomfortable but certainly not worrisome.

    June 2019!!! Surgery Siblings!!!

Yes, I am panicking and am a bit depressed as well. I think I have researched too much. I've read medical abstracts about complications, bulletin boards where people list all their bad experiences, etc., etc. I am questioning whether I picked the best surgeon. Another one in my area has done 2000 bariatric surgeries and has never had a single death. I only have very basic information about my own surgeon. He said one patient died from alcohol poisoning after drinking large quantities of alcohol early in his healing process. Hope I can calm down and be more optimistic before my surgery.

    June 2019!!! Surgery Siblings!!!

My doctor doesn't require a pre-op diet, but for two weeks prior, I am going to do liquids only.

    June 2019!!! Surgery Siblings!!!

I'm scheduled for June 3. My highest weight was 235 and I'm around 224 right now. I'm 5'3 and 59 years old, so because of my age, I am anticipating a slow and hopefully steady weight loss. This site has been a godsend because I have learned so much from the posters. Thank you all for your knowledge and tips.

    Bowl movement

My nutritionist and surgery nurse said that Metamucil was okay post-surgery. Why would you urge against it? Thanks in advance.
  22. Some posters have commented that post-menopausal women (I am one) have a more difficult time losing weight and do so at a slower pace. Is this true? Has anyone any personal experiences, advice, or successes to relate?
