I was the same like you before surgery but it's going all crazy hope it gets better

I read so many stories about how women who hadn't been getting their periods pre-op started getting them again after VSG -- I feel like I'm the opposite! I was always regular until surgery. I think it gets better though, and I'm just relieved that my period came back, even if irregular, because I had never missed one before so it was a bit disconcerting. Good luck everyone!

Are you on birth control? I had to stop my birth control a month before and after surgery. I'm really hoping my cycle goes back to normal. I'm able to start my pill again tomorrow

Sent from my SM-G930V using BariatricPal mobile app

I'm not on birth control so I don't know how much a difference it makes. I think though that it gets better with time when your body adjusts to its "new normal"

  3. The surgery and subsequent weight loss make your hormones go completely out of whack, or at least in my case. I'm 33 and I've always had regular periods with minor cravings. Post op, I got my period 1 month, missed it the second month, got it super irregular the 3rd month and literally felt like I wanted to eat everything in the house. I couldn't stop grazing for the life of me. But luckily the crazy cravings only lasted a day or two

  4. I had VSG on Feb 6th and have lost 37 lbs, which is slow compared to a lot of others on this forum but as long as the scale is going in the right direction, then I'm ok with it :) Plus it gives my skin a chance to catch up with me (or so I hope!)

I have lots of days the scale doesn't move, and then suddenly it'll drop a pound. While I weigh myself daily I try not to tally the amount lost until the end of the week, which I think has helped with not driving myself crazy

  5. Wow you guys are doing great! I've only lost around 37 lbs since my op, plus there was no pre-op diet/weight loss required in my surgery so I feel so behind all of you. I'm still having trouble meeting my liquid goals simply because Water still makes me nauseous and I'm wary of calories in everything else. I'm hoping if I manage to get more Fluid down, I'll lose faster. Other than that, I feel completely normal health-wise, no complications or anything, so I try to be fully appreciative of that daily

  6. Hey ladies! I have another period related question. I got my period normally the first month after the op, but haven't seen it since? (I'm a total of 2.5 months post-op, so my period is 16 days late at this point). Has this happened to anyone? I know it's fairly normal for your period to be late when there are changes going on with your body, but I've been losing slowly and at a steady pace so I don't feel like it's *that* much of a shock to the system.

Did anyone else's period go MIA and for how long?

    PS: I'm not pregnant :D

  7. I'm like you, a little over 2 months post-op and down 30 lbs, but I wish it was more too. I can tolerate just about anything, including things that I couldn't stomach just a few weeks ago (beer and other carbonated no-no drinks for example).

I still feel restriction, but I could easily get in a lot of calories if I graze all day, especially with bad food choices. I'm very wary. I guess the only thing we can really do in this kind of situation is be extremely vigilant, track our calories and food choices, and try our very best not to fall into old bad habits (I ate a small bag of Cheetos the other day and the guilt was immense -- but I'm afraid it won't be enough to stop me from doing it again).

Good luck to all of us trying to fight the good fight!

  8. Hi guys, I did the sleeve on February 6th and have lost upwards of 25 lbs since then. Something that's worrying me is how easily I can eat all food now, at 7 weeks post-op. True, I can only eat small portions but otherwise I eat like a normal person and can easily drink beer or other carbonated drinks (just very slowly). For example, yesterday for lunch I ate more than half a plate of spinach ravioli. It might be a much smaller portion than pre-surgery, but definitely not a tiny portion!

What's ironic is that just two weeks ago I was depressed because I couldn't eat all my favorite foods or drinks, etc. Now I can, and I do, in small amounts, but I'm afraid of this being a very slippery slope.

And for all the people who are feeling low because of what they can't eat/drink -- you will be able to in the future, and then you'll worry about that too! Lol it seems like there's always a catch 22 to every stage of this.

  9. I think people react differently to different foods... I'm a month post op and for me, tortillas (flour or whole wheat) are one of the easiest things to eat. I ate roasted cauliflower the other day and it was like a BRICK in my stomach and I eventually had to throw it up like an hour after eating because it just would not digest. My nutritionist said whatever food I have a hard time eating, to try again in a week or two

I know I shouldn't but I weight myself every morning and a few times during the day. 6-7 days after surgery I was down 8 lb. but the last 5 days I am bouncing around and basically only lost 2 lbs. Ugh. I am estimating I am burning 1500-2000 calories and only getting in 450-500 calories. I know it's early etc and tomorrow I could wake up and suddenly be down 2 lbs but I am feeling frustrated. I see the NUT and MD Wed. and am anticipating advancing to soft foods and thus my calories will probably go up so I am already thinking this is going to be so slow.

I'm one month post-op and I'm down 20 lbs, and 15 of those were lost the first 2 weeks post-op and 5 were the 2nd two weeks. I was definitely discouraged like you with the slow loss of the second half of the month until I went to my nutritionist yesterday for my evaluation, and he said it's completely normal to have a fast loss the first two weeks and struggle to lose the 2nd two weeks, because our bodies are adjusting to the sudden loss of both fat and Water, etc. He said the rate will pick up again (although not as fast as 15 lbs in 2 weeks!) so I felt somewhat comforted.

I hope we all have healthy, satisfactory and steady losses in March!

  11. My doctor said I could have a drink starting 21 days post-op, which is what I did :) I had a glass of wine. No bad reactions at all, but it took me forever to drink and of course I was very wary about the calories. I was afraid I'd feel nauseous or get buzzed super quick, but nope, everything felt normal. I had a sip of beer though yesterday but it was too carbonated for my stomach, so beer is currently a pass for me.

Surgery date was February 6th. Caught a stomach virus in the hospital so it’s been pretty bad but hanging in there. 20 lbs lost

Oh no, stomach viruses are the worst. Hope you're feeling much better! My surgery was Feb 6th too and I'm down 17 lbs. The first few days sucked but now that I'm almost 3 weeks out, I feel completely back to normal (physically at least -- the mental part is always a daily struggle!). My surgeon cleared me to start eating normal food in a few days but I still can't get used to how small my portion sizes now are... we're not in Kansas anymore Toto

Okay! I knew I was probably over reacting but literally everyone I know is asking me how much weight I’ve lost...I’ve just been concentrating on it way too hard. Thank you all for the encouragement ❤️😊

I know what you mean about concentrating too hard, I just finished 2 weeks post-op and lost 15 lbs and somehow convinced myself that it wasn't enough (the days where the scale barely moves, if at all, are torture). Logically I know it's pointless to weigh myself daily but I just don't have the willpower not to (lack of willpower might be what got me into this whole situation lol).

I had my first post-op appointment with my nutritionist yesterday though and she said my weight loss is actually pretty speedy (yay) but that my body is retaining too much Water and minerals which indicates I'm not getting in enough fluids (boo). She said she doesn't recommend losing more than 20 to 25 lbs in the first month anyway, so that I should stop focusing on the scale and more on drinking water. It's hard to get your priorities in order when you're so fixated on the pounds themselves :(

Hey guys ! I had my surgery on the 13th and am 10 pounds down as of today . I’m having a very hard time getting my liquids down though . I have only had about 10 oz today out of the 64 I need. Water makes me nauseous and I HATE the taste of crystal lite . HELPPP 😭

I'm 12 days post-op and I still have a hard time drinking Water -- it makes me instantly nauseous. My doctor said I can drink sugar-free juice, and that's been going down much easier. Also, I find that when I suck on ice cubes, the water doesn't bother me. That being said, I'm still not hitting my fluid goals yet and that bothers me, but I'm trying to just solely increase day by day and not go into panic mode. I hope things get better for you!

  15. I had my surgery on Feb 6th and I lost 10 lbs the first week on the clear liquid diet, but now that I'm on a full liquid diet, the weight loss has slowed slightly -- I'm still losing but at a much slower daily rate. Has this happened with anyone else?

I also have a hard time drinking Water still -- it makes me nauseous. I've been drinking a lot of other liquids but I find it impossible to hit that 3 liter daily liquid goal without being able to drink much water.

Other than that, I physically feel totally normal, hope you all are recovering well also!

I am a little over a month out from my surgery (3/18) and I am going through a range of emotions. I am nervous about the pain and discomfort following the procedure. I am anxious about getting on this weight loss journey (yet again) and I am trying to wrap my head around how my relationship with food is going to change. Any words of wisdom are appreciated.

I'm one week post-sleeve, and if I could give my past self any advice before going into the operation, it would be to just expect the first few days to suck (pain, gas cramps, discomfort, feeling tired and sorry for yourself) and to take it one day at a time, and to not expect to be like the people who were back at work or running errands on day 2 or 3. Essentially -- hope for the best, but expect the worst! The mental part is so big in all this.

I'm on Day 7 and I feel like a completely different person than me at Day 2. It gets soooo much better, just get through those first few days. Sending you positive vibes!

Thanks for the info. With prior surgeries and injuries day 3 has typically been the worst. I asked my dietitian and surgeon about being hungry and they both said because they remove the fundus which orders ghrelin the hormone that tells the brain you are hungry that I won't feel hunger like I did prior to surgery. Is the hunger the same or lessened? Thanks for sharing. Congrats! You are capable and kickin ass.

I had absolutely zero hunger for the first 3.5 days, and I was astonished by the posts of people who said they felt hungry. I was like, but how?! Then hunger slowly started creeping in, I think the night of day 3 I started having a random hunger pain here or there, but nothing too noticeable. Day 4 hunger increased a little more, and by Day 5 I'm morosely drinking my liquids as much as I can and wishing it was anything else lol. It's all good though, I read that once I get on the soft food phase you're satiated so much more than with liquids. Hope all goes smoothly on your end!
