  1. That's awesome, tcowen! Remind me... have you had your surgery yet, or are you still in the waiting room?

Recidivist, you have to go at your own pace. Look after what's right for YOU. I know you might feel a little intimidated through comparing yourself to others, but as an idea--I'm 29. No health probs except mild asthma and eczema and mildly high cholesterol (not medicated). Pre-surgery I could walk 15K steps in a day without much trouble at all. I've never broken a bone, let alone had any surgery.
Comparison may well be the theif of your own joy in this process, my friend. Please look after you and do your best. I'll be rooting for you!!

  2. I've seen quite a few people who lost a lot of weight before surgery, like 20+ pounds. Did all of that happen during the two weeks of liquid, or were you already dieting before then. (As some of you know from my posts, I'm not dieting before liquids!)

Ive lost 70 lbs on a weight watchers since April of last year. I had to lose 10% of body weight by surgery i lost almost 20%.

  3. Also, for our surgery graduates -- how are you tracking your food/water consumption?
I've kept a food diary pre-op (as best I can) but I'm looking for an easy way to track exactly how much I'm eating/drinking post-op... I'm fairly bad at writing down liquids at the moment.
How are you keeping track of fluids, etc?
Baritastic is what I use. I have a love/dislike for the app. You can set timers for drinking, Protein, Vitamins. There is a timer for when u can drink before and after eating. A timer for when chewing your food. What I dont like about it is their recipe builder. I can't figure it out.

  4. Well I’ll be checking in the hospital at 645am...feels surrreal but I’m ready to get the ball rolling...I’m more anxious than nervous but that may change over the next 8 hours I’ll try to update you guys tomorrow...I’ll whisper a prayer for everyone
I was nervous as well. I also had an extra 3 hour wait because there was complications in the two surgeries before me. So i paced alot. My surgery was supposed to be at 12:30p. I went into the or at 3 30 my surgery started at 4:10p then I was in recovery by 6:45pm in room by 8pm. My doctor said my surgery was picture perfect. I was her star patient all weekend.

  5. Sorry to hear about the long hospital stay. Where did you have the pain?
My pain was in my left upper quadrant. It could have been gas pain. I know this is TMI but I didnt pass gas until yesterday morning. Whick I don't understand because I was up walking every hour for 3 or 4 laps which these laps weren't small it was actually 2 halls that I went down it wasna circle. I was walking about 15 minutes out of the hour. In the middle of the night if I got up to go potty I made at least 1 or 2 laps.

  6. Does that mean you spent the entire weekend in the hospital? Sorry to hear that. Was there a reason they couldn't discharge you on Saturday?
I did spend the entire weekend. My pain was horrible yesterday and had a allergic reaction to something. Plus we had an ice storm so I probably would have stayed one more day anyways. Wouldnt want to end up in the ditch and be in alot more pain

  7. I'm having gastric bypass and my doctor said I'll only be in the hospital one night unless I'm not doing well. Hope you can leave sooner. Good idea about bringing your own pillow. And thanks for reminding me to bring my Chapstick. Ugh. The CPAP! I have a love/hate relationship with mine and hope that someday I will no longer need it (although my brother is the perfect weight and he has been on one for years). I was diagnosed with sleep apnea about 6 years ago and still hate the darn machine, but if I miss even one night I'm miserable the next day. Here's to a CPAP-less future for both of us!
So i don't know what I did to my account but I can't get into it so created a new one. I don't know why my doctor has us stay so long. Although The 10th is the earliest I would go home they said because my surgery isn't until 12 15pm.
