Totally normal and it gets better. You're in pain, you can't eat, and it sucks, but I think the depression is usually from rapid hormonal changes.

Hi everyone - sorry, didn't mean to leave you all in suspense!
I got home last night and didn't have a good night and day with the pain. And my surgeon refused to give me any pain meds until my husband rang and gave him hard time. Then he gave me a 1 day script for Tramadol.
So, my husband. He surprised me. I sent him the text shortly after the surgery letting him know where I was and that I had left more info for him in the kitchen. He said that he understood why I had't told him, and that he didn't blame me. He was very supportive - but said that he probably wouldn't have been if he'd known beforehand.
He brought the girls to visit as soon as he got off work on Tuesday, and they stayed for 3 hours. He asked lots of questions and was reading some of the packet I left him.
He was there to pick me up right on time on Wednesday and said that he'd been up late reading up on it and wanted to know if I had a menu or anything he could look at so he could help. He brought Dunkin Donuts coffee and munchkins for the nurses like I asked, because they were so wonderful to me.
He called the out of hours doctor and got him to make my surgeon call back as I mentioned. He was really pissed they didn't give me better meds - I really was in a lot of pain. He has been supportive at the end, and that's good enough. He says that I definitely have made the right decision, and that I was very brave.

Yay!!! Sorry I didn’t weigh in earlier on this convo as I just found it a minute ago! Gotta tell you, it was the best suspense story I’ve read in quite awhile! So proud of your strength and perseverance! And kudos to your daughter (she seems to have a bit of her moms strength). So glad the surgery went well and I pray for a peaceful recovery.

Hot chocolate: 1 cup milk (I use fairlife for more protein), heated. 1 TBL unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 packet sugar substitute of choice, a drop of vanilla and a teeny-tiny bit of salt (like VERY little salt). Yum and counts as Protein.

You are not alone! I had surgery Jan 9th and went through the same thing! It will pass. The first 2 weeks were rough just being on liquids and feeling so bloated, like I was 10 months pregnant, the gas pains , "growling" (gurgling) stomach, the second guessing my decision and fear of failure...yep...pretty common! Keep coming to this forum and read others testimonies so you know you are not alone!

I am down a total of 143 lbs in about a years time. from a 46 inch waist to a 31. My high weight was 305, now I'm 162. Not sure if it's typical, but it was my journey.

I didn’t take anything other than my phone and charger, slippers and some comfy loose fitting clothes for the ride home. I was lucky enough to only stay one night and go home by afternoon the next day

I started walking on the treadmill at the gym two or three days after I was released from the hospital (it's too cold to walk outside where I live). After two weeks, I was taking spin classes and doing some high intensity, low impact cardio. My surgeon had me go straight to purees and soft foods, when I was released from the hospital, so I had enough calories and nutrients to be more active earlier in the recovery process. I don't think I could have been as active if I had been on a Clear Liquids, then transition to full liquids before moving to purees/softs 2 weeks post op. If you're surgeon has you on liquid diet, you should still get your exercise in, but make sure you take it extra easy and always listen to your body (which you should do anyway), If you're consuming less than 600 calories a day, you have to go a slower even if you feel you can do more. As you are able to consume more calories (over 600), you can start increasing intensity and getting your heart rate up.
As for my progression, my surgeon said I had no restrictions on physical activity at my one month follow up (Jan. 16). I started weight training the next day--lighter weights and higher reps at first. I am now about 6 weeks post-op and I am working out the same as I would if I hadn't had surgery, including working on my abs. I honestly feel great in the gym and I see and feel significant improvement in my physical fitness and muscle tone. My joints feel better and I have a lot more energy than I had before the surgery. I have been doing cardio every day and weight training 4-5 times a week (three on, one off). I am not going crazy with the weights--I am just listening to my body and making sure I am lifting as much weight as I can, while maintain proper form.
FYI, if you are going to go from the operating room to the gym (figuratively speaking) like some of us have done, you may find that you stall out on your weight loss sooner or more often than other WLS patients. You're still going to lose that fat, but the additional muscle mass you add (even if you are only doing cardio) will slow the downward momentum of your scale (which doesn't distinguish between fat and muscle). This is actually a good thing. Sure, we all want to get the weight off as quickly as possible, but if you don't add exercise to your weight loss program a larger percentage of your weight loss will come from you muscle mass. The idea is to lose fat, not muscle tissue. Nevertheless, it is annoying to see the scale stall since you want to get to certain weight loss goals and benchmarks that you set for yourself (at least that's how I feel)--even though I know I am getting huge benefits from the exercise.

I’m so sorry you’re feeling down. Those two things would make me feel down as well! My DIL warned me about the possibility of Hair loss and I started taking Biotin 6 months before my surgery. I started cutting the capsule open and adding it to applesauce last week and now ordered some chewable ones. I’m not sure it’s going to help but I’m hoping

DanaC84 reacted to Matt Z in It finally happened. Onederland!
    My heaviest weight was 370.
In 2010 I had the band installed (such a mistake, waste of time, money and effort IMO)
    March 10th, 2018 at my Pre-Surgical check in I was 310.
March 21st, 2018 at check in for surgery I was 294.4. I had the band removed and revised to the bypass.
Today, January 23rd, 2019. 308 days after surgery... I hit a number that I haven't seen in more than 20 years Onederland.
I'm down 95 lbs since surgery, 110.6 lbs from pre-surgical. And a staggering 170.6 lbs from my heaviest weight.

I need to thank so many people that if I tried, I'd forget someone and then we'd start with the hard feelings.
    So I'll go with this.
    Thank you.
If you've helped me through this in any way, shape, or form, Thank you.
