  1. I chose the sleeve because of long term issues I found in researching and asking my doctor about the bypass. I did not choose the sleeve because I would lose faster or slower, this is a long term losing process and I think we set ourselves up for failure if we expect to lost it all quickly. We have to make life changes as well for either surgery to be a long term success.

    Hello,

Constipation any body? Had my surgery on 02/14/19 and I had only one bowel movement .. any suggestions?

Have you called your doctor? They may be able to recommend something for you. I know if I’m not active enough that can happen to me. Be sure you’re drinking all your fluids every day too, that can make a big difference.

@cocoaakp2 surgery was fine but I was extremely nauseous and throwing up after all day long. Worst day ever . Now my bp is high and they think it may be from the pain meds. I’m not really in any significant pain, just sore and my head is pounding. Hopefully today goes better.
    Thank you!

@Elsy everything went well. I will be discharged tomorrow. Could've left today, but I asked to stay til tomorrow... I am enjoying the treatment and iv meds[emoji1] I'm very sore at one invcision & my tummy is kinda swollen. Bending and lifting is not much of an option. Overall, I'm grateful for a successful pro edure. Looking forward to an even better recovery... Especially concerning this gas[emoji30]

10 days post op. I'm down 13 pounds. I can't do three 2 oz food servings and three shakes in a day yet but I'm able to get my 48-64 oz of liquid and some food in. I just make sure that I'm getting at least 70 grams of Protein between my food and liquids.

That’s great! How are you feeling? If you work, how long did your surgeon want you to be out if you don’t mind me asking?

How do I reply to someone else’s post?
I’m not sure what device you’re using but in my iPhone I press and hold for a second the post I want to quote and I get the pop out of the options to select. Once you do that you can just write in the box below it.

Had my sleeve 2/5/19! The surgery lasted 5 hours due to adhesions from a prior liver surgery.
Oh my! How are you feeling now?
I’m getting serious butterflies. I had a lapband in 2012 and it had to be removed 11/2017 due to it slipping. So I decided to have the sleeve. My doctor says that my surgery could go long depending on what things look like when they go in because of the previous lapband.
Maybe that’s why I’m getting nervous.

  9. @AlteredReality thank you for sharing! I have determined to give up the same items and essentially eat the same type foods. Been on my Pre-op plan they gave me for a week and although I still miss occasionally the sweets and heavy carbs, I know they can’t be a part of my life if I’m going to have success in keeping weight off. Some people can re-introduce certain items back in with moderation. I’m not sure I could, so my goal is to avoid. food cannot be my source of entertainment/comfort/reward.

Hi Elsy, I'm scheduled for next Tuesday and I'm going through the same thing! I keep beating myself up about it. I keep thinking, "Why don't I have the will power or self control to do this on my own." I have to remind myself why I considered it. I have to be honest with myself and remind myself that I DON'T have to have surgery. But! It's a good chance I will continue to struggle with losing weight. This is a tool that will help me initially, but I still have to do the work. This isn't the "easy" way out. This is hard and scary but it will be worth it. I read all of everyone's progress and wonder what my progress will be (6 months, a year, 2 years from now) and it gives me hope. It doesn't take away the anxiety, but I am going to trust God, praying for a great recovery, and have hope for myself.

Thank you so much for the input. I agree. This is a tool, not a magic pill. I still have to work hard, or I will end up like I am now. Jitters for surgery I guess. Prayers for you that all goes well on Tuesday! You’ll be heading home when I’m going in.😊

Good morning bariatric pals, I am sitting at the hospital waiting to be called back to start my new journey. I'm so excited and can't wait until this part and the recovery is over. I'm praying for my other surgery buddies who are also having surgery today.

Prayers all goes well for you today and beyond! One step and a time. Be kind to yourself and don't rush recovery. Telling you and reminding myself of all of these things. I'm scheduled for later this month.

    Scheduled for February 21st!!!!

Me too! I start my pre-op eating plan tomorrow. Excited, nervous, despite reading so much, I know it's a different experience for everyone with different outcomes. I'm just going to do my best to follow the plan and we'll see what happens!

  13. I'm having surgery in February. Of course my husband knows. So far, he's the only one I'm sharing with. I don't like to say it's a "secret" because for some reason that feels like it's something to be ashamed or embarrassed about. However, like many others who's comments I've read, there is a lot of judgement out there and misinformation. I don't know if I feel like educating everyone or dealing with negative comments. For now, I am not planning to share with certain people because I already know what their opinions will be and I'm not up for dealing with it. I may not share with anyone else. IDK yet. My husband reminded me that there's no reason to share unless I really want to and feel comfortable doing so. Just like any other elective medical procedure, this is a personal choice. We all have our reasons for having surgery and likely as many variations of why people are or are not sharing.

I'm going to just go with my instinct on a person by person basis. My lifestyle will change so much with the food I'm eating, I would think most would just assume that's why I'm losing and not be so nosey to ask.
