I made it to Onederland!!! One wk short of 6 months. 199.6 today. I still have a way to go, but its such a relief to be back in the 100s at 42 for the first time since the age of 19! Yes, I need to update my stats but I can't from my phone or tablet and am never on a PC.

    YUM.
I'm still on baby food. Here's my 50g of pureed butter chicken with 20g of Protein yogurt I had for dinner last night. I finished about 3/4s and then became nauseous...
Bought little 100g pottles of puree from a company here in NZ. It's been great not having to think about cooking, because cooking smells are blugh!

Well... day 5 post-surgery and I guess I should have expected that it wouldn't all be smooth sailing.
It was my first night sleeping through the night last night, and I am absolutely zonked today. Decided to come off the Celecoxib because I'm not experiencing much pain (aside from the occasional stabbing pains my my tummy/left ribs that seem fairly standard) but, sheesh! The nausea! And complete and utter lack of energy! Ooch, I'm really feeling sorry for myself!
It's 4pm my time and I'm just finishing up my first 500ml. I'm trying... but just every blimmin thing is an effort.
How are our 13th quads doing? Are you experiencing anything similar?
Anyone else suffering post-surgery? I know we've been a fairly upbeat lot, but I want to make sure that we're hearing/encouraging those who aren't lollipops and rainbows, too. (There's plenty of optimism for us all to share, hehe!)

Omg I got to start puree stage today. I'm trying ricotta bake for dinner. I had a 1/2 scramble egg for Breakfast and 4oz of wendys chili. So far so good no issues yet.

Thanks to everyone who commented about how they're tracking post-surgery! Inspired by Idawn, here's a pic of what I've come up with to track drugs/liquids/food/exercise/mental stress prevention. I daresay I'll relax back on this as I become more familiar with the routine of meals, etc., but so far it's helping my stress levels to be so pedantic! In future, I think I'll add a column for tracking/adding up Protein, so that's easier to track day to day, too.

    Hi hi hi February buddies!
So I had my last meeting with my surgeon pre-op earlier this week... we're all go for the 15th (that'll be the 14th your time--as we're ahead here in NZ). He's put me first on the list because of anxiety, so it'll be nice to get it out of the way early!
I had a misstep and a half-day "break" from my pre-emptive pre-op diet. Said goodbye to a few delicious carby things. Surgeon said 2 weeks of Opti, Dietician said three... doesn't matter much, as I'm back on it now anyway. 10kgs down, and after my day off earlier this week I'm back to losing!
I don't know if anyone here is doing Optifast or powdered shakes... but I thought I'd share a few tips and tricks I've learned over the past couple weeks:
Make up chocolate shakes with coffee, or orange low-calorie cordial/juice for different flavours. Make up vanilla shakes with tea, and/or 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp each of nutmeg and ginger for 'chai' and 'vanilla spice' flavours. Make up low-cal jelly with half as much Water, cool it down, and whizz it up (while it's still liquid) with an ice-cold shake to make a 'flummery' style pudding. Make up low-cal jelly with half to quarter as much water and set in a tray. Cut up into small pieces and add to shakes or tea to get a kind of 'bubble tea'. It's summer over here, but I'm loving making spicy roasted eggplant Soup, roasted Tomato Soup, and zucchini noodles in homemade Tomato sauce for my 2c vegetable allowance! Above all, keep tea and coffee and other mixers in the fridge! And try to stay away from artificial sweeteners as much as possible... diet coke and low-cal cordials in large quantities give me killer carb cravings! Anyways, I hope this might help... if not, sorry for tantalizing you with food talk! 😂

That sounds so, so, so normal, 2B smaller! Whenever those feelings came up for me, I'd remind myself not only of the very good reasons I have to want surgery, but of the concept of homeostasis.
Homeostasis is basically the overwhelming need for things to stay the same. It's why it's so hard to make new habits/life changes... because self-preservation tends to tell us that if it ain't truly, absolutely, completely broke, we shouldn't be fixing it!
I don't know about you but I'd really like to go on a horse trek with my husband one day. I'd really like to feel comfortable enough to go on holiday with him to the Auzzie gold coast theme parks. I'd like to tramp the Tongariro crossing and the other Great NZ Walks. I'd love to bring a child into this world.
So that stinky old homeostasis can get stuffed [emoji6]

I am driving myself crazy. I am normal a very balanced person but the past week or 2 my emotions are all over the place. I am scheduled for surgery Monday morning. I have had fleeting thoughts of cancelling the procedure, silently wishing my insurance suddenly cancelled approval or the surgeon announced he was retiring. Then earlier today I went to this site (so happy to have you all!!) and now I am excited and can't wait to start the next phase. I feel jealous of those that are weeks and months out. I just want to fast forward a week and have the scary part behind me.

Thought I'd post a vulnerable photo of my one day post-op battle scars. I'd lost quite a bit of weight before surgery, so my tummy was quite slack and floppy, but here it's a big, round, tight, uncomfortable gas ball.

Having some trouble with nausea this morning--all I can smell is the pureed chicken I ate last night! But got some nausea meds so hopefully that settles in a bit. Sending good thoughts your ways!

That's awesome, tcowen! Remind me... have you had your surgery yet, or are you still in the waiting room?

Recidivist, you have to go at your own pace. Look after what's right for YOU. I know you might feel a little intimidated through comparing yourself to others, but as an idea--I'm 29. No health probs except mild asthma and eczema and mildly high cholesterol (not medicated). Pre-surgery I could walk 15K steps in a day without much trouble at all. I've never broken a bone, let alone had any surgery.
Comparison may well be the theif of your own joy in this process, my friend. Please look after you and do your best. I'll be rooting for you!!
(Only calling you out because I consider you a friend! [emoji4] )

Gosh I hope so, too... would they ever not cover that if you really needed it? The whole US insurance situation freaks me out. Lol.

The acid pill was just, I think, to settle stomach acid while I wasn't eating anything. Managed about 50ml or so of pureed chicken this evening, so they've taken me off the acid pill--whatever it was.

Yeah... water on that first day/evening was rough. I struggled through 500ml. Then I realised I was going to get really dehydrated if I didn't make a real effort because after the first bag of fluids that was it.

Today was easier. I've almost met my 1.5L water goal. Still takes me about 45mins to get three tablets down (and I start feeling sore in that last couple hours before my next panadol) but all in all I'm really surprised by how good everything's been =)
