  1. I just need to vent. Insurance approved my surgery but I have BCBSTX, so there's a separate approval for surgery and for the actual inpatient hospital stay. They have been saying the inpatient approval is pending for over a week now. My surgeons office is hounding them too. Why approve the surgery so quickly but then waffle on the hospital stay needed for it? Argh! I just wanna get my official surgery date already.

  2. Well I just confirmation my request for Duodenal Switch was denied because my BMI is not 50. I’m at 47.3 so I would need to gain like 16 lbs before they would approve me. It’s ridiculous and I’m not gaining 16lbs. So I am going with my backup plan of the Gastric Bypass.
That's crazy! Hope you have better luck getting approved for the bypass.

  3. I am in the same boat as you. I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Illinois and surprisingly I don't have that many things to do. I just had an Upper GI x-ray on friday. and tomorrow I go to my nutrition class and then I just have a psych eval. then it will get submitted for approval from insurance. My insurance does not require doctor supervised weight loss which I am actually soooo grateful for! Good luck to you!!!!
Good luck to you, too! Hope we both have surgery dates soon!

  4. I had my consultation with the surgeon today and got the ball rolling. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas and really hope I get approved with few issues.

I'm surprised how little I have to do to qualify: lab work (done today), an online seminar, one nutrition class, one psychological evaluation, and an endoscopy. I went ahead and scheduled all of it so I should be done in a couple weeks, then the surgeon's office will submit to insurance. They said BCBS usually takes about 2 weeks to approve after you submit everything.

Sounds too good to be true so I'm cautiously optimistic. I've been thinking about doing this for a long time and now I want to get it done as quickly as possible.
