It was starting week two until Monday- Surgery was 1/30.....and now I am only losing about .5 lb a day but trying to eat more often - I try for 4 small meals but it really depends. I am full quickly and not hungry but I am trying to get 600 cals in but i do drink minimum 90 ounces of Water but try to get more than that. I was drinking over 150 ounces a day pre op regularly though.

Thanks i am going to work harder on my water intake....hopefully things will get better, today makes it officially one month since my vsg...was hoping for a loss

you are probably just in a stall but can you up your calories and Water a bit? Both seem low - definitely the Water if anything- although you should follow your plan! I lost about the same and I am 3 weeks out from RNY- just came out of a stall though so we will see. I also lost the same pre-op as you in about a months time. Just hang in there!

How long was your stall, i am going to push myself on the water intake? Calories is a bit hard cause im still on puree stage and not everything really goes down well. Hoping when i see the doctor they allow me to go to the next stage and start working out. Just feels like this stall is going to last forever 😭😭

  3. Hey All, so i had vsg on 1/22, and for the first 14 days weight was just coming off i believe i lost about 13-14 lbs, prior to the surgery during liquid pre-op I lost about 23lbs. But the past 16 days i have not lost a pound i am either at the same or it goes down/up one...and now my monthly vistor is coming so Im expecting a gain😭😭 not sure what im doing wrong i go in for my first month check up on Wednesday so im hoping they clear me to go to the gym. I am getting my Proteins in on most day, Water intake is a struggle still, before the surgery i was getting 72 oz day during preop and now i can barely get in 40 oz. Just dreaded this stall and scared that it wont end...i am sticking to 400-450 calories a day, dont really have an appetite which is great but eat to get the proteins in. Just discouraged was hoping to be farther along. Not sure what to do

  4. Had surgery on 1/22, not feeling the greatest, barely getting my fluids in, heartburn or gas is the worst...i was able to eat a 3rd of 4ounce low fat cottage cheese, had to add Protein to my Water can barely get 24 ounces in a day. But i do feel a bit better than the day before. Not used to sleeping on my back so its hard. Trying to avoid taking the pain killers. I know its supposed to get better soon just hoping sooner than later

I am six days gastric sleeve post-op and still in the hospital. I ended up being one of the rare cases where I had internal bleeding and almost died about 12 hours after surgery. They had to go back in, suction out all the blood, and re-cauterize everything. I also needed three blood transfusions. I’m finally off the IV fluids as of today, and if my hemoglobin levels are steady tomorrow morning, then I finally get to go home. Any other horror stories, or am I the only unlucky one?

So sorry that you went through all of that glad you are finally heading home. Prayers for a speedy recovery

Ladies, make sure to wear a sports bra post-op! I wore one all yesterday and took it off before bed and never put it back on. The lack of support was adding pressure to core, making me more sore throughout today. I put it back on a few minutes ago and already feel much better.

Thanks for the tip, how is it going are you able to get some of ur Proteins in today?

  8. So i cant believe this and i had to weigh myself multiple times but i literally have dropped 10lbs since Monday, started liquid diet this week...cant believe it. I stll have 11 more days to go till my VSG, and i cant wait. I thought this was going to be horrible even impossible to do liquids for 14 days but its not that bad. Actually getting more than 64oz of Water a day which indont think i have ever done.

I have to walk 5x/day for 5-10 minutes at a time. And yeah, drinking is so hard right now. I've been sleeping so much that it honestly hasn't been a priority—I've just been focused on Water because I don't want to get dehydrated. Hopefully the anesthesia will have worn off more tomorrow and I won't be sleeping as much so that I can in more Water and Protein.

Are you allowed gasx, i have heard other people say it worked? Sorry for all the questions just curious and anxious since my surgery is coming soon. Hope your recovery goes well and congrats again

Yes, I've been walking around whenever possible—I actually just sat down from doing laps around the house. It's definitely easier to walk today than it was yesterday. I was told that if I can't get up and walk around to do leg raises, but so far, walking hasn't been an issue. I also have been having someone help me up when I walk so I can put as little pressure on my core as possible.

That is great how often do you have to walk around? And i hope you are able to get some protien in

Hey all, wanted to give an update on my surgery.

When I got to the hospital, they first had me pee in a cup to make sure I wasn't pregnant. After that I got taken to a room where they asked me family history questions, etc. They also started an IV. I met with the anesthesioloist and he told me about the plan for surgery and asked if I had any questions. He also offered me some meds that would make me relax, which I gladly accepted. After that I was wheeled to the OR. I don't remember anything after that—the next thing I remember was waking up in a recovery bed. My stomach was sooo full of gas and I was super uncomfortable, but I wasn't allowed to walk around yet. Eventually, they let me walk a little bit because I had to go to the bathroom. After that they took me to my room—I don't remember much about that. I slept a lotttttt. My stomach was still in some pain, but it wasn't terrible. Throughout the night several people checked on me and took my vitals. After midnight I was able to have Water, which was great because my mouth was hella dry. This morning, I walked some and it was much easier than it was before. Today my stomach is sore, but it's more of discomfort than pain. I'm home and have absolutely no appetite. I'm sipping on Water to keep me hydrated, but haven't started on Protein Shakes yet.

How are you feeling, are you able to walk around?

Really? That gives me so much hope!! I feel like the 6 months will drag and take forever and it really brings me down sometimes. I just wish I could start my life up again (in a healthier way) sooner than later. I’m in NY - I noticed you said Oxford :). Best of luck to you on your journey!

Yes it united health care oxford, i am also in new york and went through the same process at first i thought it was forever but it did go by quickly. I found an amazing center in LI NY Bariatric Center and they have been great, so looking forward to joining the losers bench this month 13 more days to go.

Just had my first appointment last month. They checked my insurance and I’m good to go, however if you’re a UHC person you know all about that exciting 6 month supervised diet thing. They told me all I have to do is weigh in once a month. That’s it. They’re not even asking me to diet. What I’m concerned about is, if UHC sees I’ve gained any weight will they deny my operation? The doctors office seems so nonchalant about it all I’m trying to figure out if it’s really this easy? My BMI is 41 btw.

I have uhc oxford and i was approved and i did gain some weight over the 6 months, but not too much. I am currently doing my pre-op liquid fast

Hello! I’m really glad I found this app; I’ve been researching for months, however it’s great having people to ask who are going through the same experience. My surgery date is on 1/10 - less than 48 hours away. Nervous - yet really excited. I’ve been on a 2 week period diet consisting of Protein Shakes and fruits and vegetables the first week and nothing but Protein shakes the second way. Hasn’t been too bad and I’ve lost 14 lbs - so that’s a plus. Good luck to everyone!

Good luck and hope all goes well

I have my surgery on yesterday afternoon. Surgery went really well. I woke up and it was a little nauseous for a while but they’ve been really good about controlling and so I didn’t throw up at all. I’m literally having no pain except for one area which is that my diaphragm. There is an incision really close to it so I can’t tell if it’s the incision that is making an egg or if it is trapped gas from the surgery. Either way it’s going very smoothly and I’m feeling pretty good now that the anesthetic has worn off. I’ve been walking a lot which is good and it appears they’re going to discharge me in about 10 hours from now. So I’m pretty stoked. Just want this diaphragm pain to subside. The only reason I’m starting to think it’s from the incision right there is because it when I take Tylenol it feels slightly better.

Congratulations glad you are doing well so far
