  1. OFF TOPIC - SORRY Love Sex and the City! I think it was Miranda's friend who was the steak spitter! I think I could've handled the steak spitting but the pissy, freaked out attitude when she asked about it would have been a deal-breaker for me. WE NOW RETURN YOU TO YOUR PREVIOUSLY SCHEDULED TOPIC

    What Goddess are you?

None of the answers were quite right for me. So I went with whichever came first on the list that was closest. Hestia = Homeboady! LOL
  3. I have not done this. Yet. Thanks guys. (just kidding  ) I think it would be hard for me to not swallow whatever it is I shouldn't have taken a bite of. I do agree with LilAngel, swallowing the food seems to be the greater part of it's satisfaction - certainly at least equal to it's taste. Hmmmmm. Really thinking about each step of eating something I know I shouldn't - biting into it, feeling it's texture, chewing, tasting its flavor, swallowing - actually seems to keep me from missing the food too much. Weird. You'd think the opposite would be true. Every day, in every way . . . I realize that I am really screwed up about food!
  4. Thanks PhotoNut, that article was informative without being 'preachy' and we can all use that kind of input.

How do YOU know when you're FULL?

That's what it's like for me too. If I take that next bite/sip (not on solids yet) it doesn't feel good, not pain exactly, but I know if I take another bite/sip it IS going to hurt so I stop. I wait a few minutes and if I still feel hungry I try a small bite. If the food goes down easily, I know I was just eating too fast and I slow down. If that pressure happens again, I'm done. (If the pressure IS still there I concede that I'm really not hungry in my tummy but only hungry in my head and that's a whole 'nuther' post!)

    dismantle my life

Hey Crystal, Go back and reread what everyone else said and then multiply it by ten. Or a hundred. Or a thousand! You don't have to support us all the time - let us support you for a spell. You can lean on us you know, we're pretty darned strong. You ought to know, you helped us to be that way! Everyone's pulling for you Crystal, you relax and let us do the work for awhile. P.S. I agree with 'gentlespirit' - tell that nurse you want to speak with the doctor.

    Yummy yummy mushies!

Drool. Drool. I'm not at the mushie stage yet. Can you tell? Drool. Drool. Wheetsin, share your hummus recipe please. I know, I know, drool, I can't have it yet, drool. It'll give me a week to, um, perfect the recipe. Ya, thats it. Drool.

3 months out and still can't eat?

shopgirl, sounds like you're following a fill schedule rather than how your body feels. You shouldn't get a fill if you can't eat 1/2 cup of food. P.S. I'm just going by my doctor's suggestions - I haven't been banded for long enough to have enough experience to advise you. Good luck.

    What Happened to Me? Help!

vlb: My doctor said full liquids for 3 weeks post-op THEN mushies. After reading everyone's comments here, and getting a gelcap stuck (didn't let it soften up long enough) I'm in no hurry to push it. susan unsal: Doc told me Slim Fast is not a good choice for Protein. To much sugar, carbs and fat to be a useful tool. Look for twice the amount of protein grams, or more, as carbohydrate grams. For instance, Body Fortress has 20 grams of protein with 3 grams of carbs - thats a good source of protein. Isopure has 40 grams of protein with 0 grams of carbs. That's an EXCELLENT source of protein. You should also avoid soy protein. Your body cannot utilize most of the protein and the part it can't absorb moves into your bowel undigested and creates gas and bloat. whey protein isolates is the best protein suppliment for your body. Once again, Isopure wins, hands down. Hope this makes sense, good luck to you.

    Completely Unfilled--Givin it a rest

Good luck Sal, give yourself plenty of time to heal and YOU decide how much fill is the right amount for you. Wishing you the best.
  12. Hi all, Last night before bed I had some sharp stabby pains at my port site. When I woke up this morning I still had some pain - very quick stab then gone. So I came to LBT and followed Princes n thep's advise (shaking my fist your way Princess) and did a search before I posted a redundant question. Started sifting through port site pain/infection posts and NOW I'm really freaked out! So, how do you get a port infection? How does it feel? Do you feel it before you see the problem? How long after surgery can you stop worrying about port infections? Is there such a thing as a MILD port infection? What's the furthest out from surgery anyone has gotten a port infection or heard about someone getting a port infection? I don't think I'm really having any problems but after 'researching' I'm just a tad needy. Someone please reassure me. I know, how pathetic.

    Pregnancy in your 30's

From the experience I had, I would say don't wait. You can manage your life with children - it will be hard, but it's doable. What will your life be like without children? I can't have kids. I'm now 44 and I wish I'd gotten pregnant when I was 20. It would have been really hard but I wouldn't be where I am now. Five years of infertility treatments - and all THAT entails - resulting in three pregnancies that didn't make it through the 1st trimester (not even close) and one tubal pregnancy which ruptured and had to be surgically removed - tube and all. Not once during that five years did anyone suggest that the 45 - 50 pounds of extra weight I was carrying might be the problem. At the end of those five years I was up by 130 pounds. My eggs are too old. I'm too old. And too fat and sad to continue to try. The funny thing is, I never even wanted kids. Apparently my maternal instinct kicked in just in time to say goodbye to fertility. Sorry this was such a downer. I just wanted you to see the other side of the coin.

I am losing interest in my band....

Hi Clementine, Sorry you're so discouraged. Tell your family to back off of you. Like you don't have enough pressure to deal with without them watching every mouthful! If they're not careful they're going to drive you into a 'secret eating' problem. That's my big problem and always has been. Here's a thought. When you get a fill, does the doctor pull out your current fill to check it before adding fill? In other words, are you sure your band isn't leaking? Don't panic if it is - they can use a thicker Fluid that won't leak. I've also heard that some people get major restriction even if the doctor only unfills and then refills the same amount. Just trying to think of possibilites. You're not alone. You don't have to go through this without support. Come back and tell us what's going on with you, OK? Good luck.

    The Yankee or Dixie Quiz

Yikes! 78% Dixie. I don't know if I should be proud or apalled! LOL I was born and raised to adulthood in Las Vegas, Nevada, but I've been in Texas for over 21 years. My dad grew up in Arkansas, my mom in Colorado and Arkansas so I guess at least I come by it honestly! It's confirmed - I'm a hick (was there ever really a doubt? lol)

    Gnawing Pain in Stomach

Hi Leener, I'm going to chime in here too. Isopure is a good source of whey protein isolates which, according to everything I've read, is the best way to suppliment your diet with high quality protein. One 20 oz bottle has 40 grams of protein and it's not as gross as most protein powder mixes. It's not fantastic tasting but it's not horrible either. I have a weak stomach and I can tolerate it. I have also read that Soy is not an ideal source of protein causing gas and bloating. As far as getting the bowels to move, I've started adding Benefiber to my diet and so far it's worked well for me. It is sugar free, flavor free, it doesn't get thick when you add it to liquid (or food as far as I can tell) and you can sprinkle it a spoonful at a time into your food or drink. Since it completely dissolves I can't see it being a problem like getting stuck over the band. On to capsules: My doc told me to put the capsule in a cup with a small amount of water - just enough that the capsule is floating. After a couple of minutes the capsule starts to look pruney, like it's shivelling. Swallow it down with the water in the cup or fish it out and swallow it with fresh water. You can tell when you put it in your mouth - run your tongue over it - that the capsule has softened and is slightly slimey - THAT's what helps it slide on past the band without hurting. I swallowed an antibiotic too quickly and man oh man did it HURT. I feel your pain bandsister! Of course you should follow your doctor's instructions about food but I will say this - every doctor seems to have his/her own recommendation about the time-frame of moving through food stages. Listen to your own body. If you need to be on clear liquids because your tummy and band hurt, stay on clear liquids - you can still get your protein through drinks like Isopure. If your doctor says move on to mushies, give it a try but if it still hurts stay with the liquids. You'll heal up pretty quick and be craving more food soon enough. Ride the liquid weight loss wave is what I say! LOL Good luck. I hope you're doing well, and I look forward to hearing about your progress.
  19. There is definitely something going on with the LBT server. Is there a moderator out there who can contact LBT's web hosting company? Thanks.

    Sopranos

Anyone catch the show tonight? I'm a little disappointed. I don't want the whole season to be about Tony in the hospital and Tony's alter-ego as a businessman. What's up with that?

    Hypnosis for Weight Loss??

You guys are lucky! I spent $2000 on hypnosis. I lost about 22 pounds in about 10 weeks and I thought I had FOUND my cure. As soon as the "intensive" portion of the program was done, so was my weight loss. Think about it, $2000 divided by 22 pounds - I'm some kind of prime cut at roughly $91 per pound. After yet another failed diet I decided it was time for surgery. I'll keep you posted on my success rate. (So far, at $10,600 divided by my 15 pound weight loss I'm up to about $707 per pound. Look for me on the menu - I must be damned good. :hungry:

    fill info

There are lots of people who go months and months before having their first fill. I've read about them here on LBT and my doctor told me the same thing. The band itself is restriction and if you don't believe it, try swallowing a capsule without letting it soften up first! I did it by accident and man oh man could I tell I had restriction! LOL (Don't really try it - it HURTS!)

    Fish-oil supplements for LapBanders?

It the fish oil in capsule form? I soak my capsule in Water for a couple of minutes until the gel starts to wrinkle, then swallow it. It goes down no problem. I do not yet have a fill though. That might change everything. Dr. Rumbaut says to take pills on an empty stomach and then eat. The food will push the pills through. At least that's what he tells me. Anyone else got a take on this?

  25. Go ahead and vent. That's what a support group is for. And don't feel guilty about being mad at him, he betrayed your confidence. There is nothing worse for a girl. Even as an adult, a girls father is her barometer for all other men, and to feel betrayed by him - of all men - will be a difficult thing to get over. Try to make him understands this. Then try to forgive him if you can. Having said that, I don't think it's a good idea to put your mom in the middle of this. It's not really fair to expect her to keep secrets from her husband. Best Wishes.
