    so depressed need help~

Its ok...hang in there. So you havent even had a fill yet? I have heard most people say that they havent had any restriction until they got a fill. It might take some time, but you will get to the point of restriction that you need and the weight will start coming off. Dont give up on the band yet. Also, as a person who has dealt with depression I can tell you from experience that my eating habits and exercise play a HUGE role in my mental health. I know you dont want to hear "eat right and exercise." However, you really need to make an effort to get your diet on track and to try exercising....for your MENTAL HEALTH. Also, you might want to try counseling. I have found that it can be a great way to figure out WHY you are doing the things you are doing...such as your self-destructive eating. Hang in there, I am sure you will have success with time. You just need to be pro-active in your health. YOU are the most important component in your health care team!

FlipFlops, There is one aspect of health that you are forgetting....mental health. As a person who has dealt with "mental health issues" for my entire life, I know that it is often impossible for other people, or even health care professionals, to recognize. There have been times in my life where carrying an unwanted pregnancy would have had dire consequences to MY health....possibly even death. Just another thing to think about...

    Metamucil, anyone?

So does that mean that benefiber doesnt work as well? I am also wondering how I will get my fiber during my liquid phase. I have some benefiber, but maybe I should buy metamucil....

    newbie

I am self-pay so I am going to Mexico to have it done. I called the surgeons office and gave them all of my information. The next day the patient coordinator emailed me to let me know that I was approved for surgery. I called her that day and scheduled my surgery for 3 weeks later. I am leaving for Mexico tomorrow!

I find this forum to be a great source of information. But honestly, I just cant comprehend the negativity and abrasiveness of some of the threads...its a bit alienating... Chubby - find a new doc...good luck!

    Is it selfish?

I think you are all right. I am definitely going through with this. I also had the "what if this is a hoax?" thought, but I am going to give the benefit of the doubt that this is true. Thanks all for your reassurance.

Ugh.... Ok, I hate that I am replying to this since I am really not interested in arguing anymore. Bandedmom....I truly love a debate as much as the next person, but quite honestly I can recognize a self-righteous Christian when I see one, and I have no interest in engaging in a debate with one...sorry. I am not going to convince you to believe what I believe, and trust me, I am not budging in my opinion. So whats the point? Call it what you want, I believe that a woman's choice over her body is supreme. If I had a tumor growing in my uterus...I would cut that out too. Murder?...if you say so. My body, my choice. We're just going to have to agree to disagree on this one. PS: I can stomach just about anything....thats why I need a LapBand...hahahaha. No seriously though, it takes an awful lot to shock me. If you had any idea what I see every day at work you would probably have a bunch of bloody pictures and skewed articles to condemn that too....haha.

    Weight restrictions

I just got my FMLA paperwork done by my surgeon today and my restrictions are no lifting over 10 lbs for one week. Then, no lifting more than 35 lbs. for 8 weeks. As for driving I'm sure that you are not supposed to drive when you are on heavy duty pain meds, but as long as you are not on those I dont see why you couldnt drive. Of course, it would be best to check with your doc to make sure.

    Acrylic or Gel Nails

Yeah my doc said no nail polish...I didnt know if that meant no acrylic nail either. I didnt understand why....but glad I know now! I had my acrylic nails removed anyways just in case. I know what you mean about them being sensitive though....ouch!

    16years old & hopfully banded

Good luck. I hope that it works out for you, and that you are able to get coverage. Another good thing to do would be to look into counseling. If your "life isn't exactly the best" sometimes its nice to talk to someone and learn how to deal with whatever is going on in your life. I have found it very helpful in the past. Good luck with your journey!

    Home from being banded!

Wow! Thats amazing! Thanks for sharing your experience. I am being banded on Saturday (May 24) and your story is definitely reassuring. I am starting to get a little nervous. I hope that my procedure goes as smoothly as yours. I am going to Mexico, so I will be flying about 7 hours two days after my surgery. Yikes! Good luck with the rest of your recovery, and congratulations!

    Yoga - hallelujah :)

Wow...thats amazing. I think I will definitely be trying yoga just as soon as my breasts no longer get in the way! This Indian guy I dated once taught me kriya (sp?) yoga. Its a way of controlling your breathing. It was also quite nice, and even though I remained stationary the whole time, I was exhausted after about 15 minutes. Thanks for sharing your experience!

    Birthday Newbie

Hi! Well a good place to start is to look up all of the bariatric surgeons in your area, then give them all a call. Most of them will require you to attend a seminar or watch a video about the procedure before you can go any further in the process. Then you will have to fill out an information packet about all of your health issues, previous weight loss attempts, medication, etc. You can then make an appointment with them, and usually they will have a financial counselor who can help you with getting insurance approval or getting financed. I would suggest that you go through this process with several surgeons to see which program feels the most comfortable for you, and which surgeon you like best (eventually you will need to research their statistics including number of procedures performed, complication rates, and read patient reviews). The whole process can seem a little daunting, but most places will help you through the whole process. If you cannot get insurance approval, there are a number of surgeons in ::gasp:: Mexico who are very experienced and have excellent stats. They offer the surgery at a fraction of the cost of American surgeons, but have a much more limited aftercare program. It all depends on your needs and preferences. I am still a newbie here too, but there are loads of people on this site who are very knowledgeable. Definitely you are in the right place, keep asking questions, and good luck in your journey! You are taking the first steps toward a new healthier life...congratulations!!!

Hi, oops....sorry but I think you misunderstood my post. Not your fault. My argument is that making abortion illegal will NOT stop abortions from happening. In fact, your little article demonstrated that point quite clearly: "before 1941, there were over 1,400 abortion-related deaths...the number of deaths was reduced in the 1950's to approximately 250 per year. By 1966, with abortion still illegal in all states, the number of deaths had dropped steadily to 120." It doesnt mention how many abortions were performed, but this is just the number that DIED. So, this shows that MANY abortions were performed long before it was legalized. I am not arguing that millions of women are dying from "back-alley" abortions. Simply, there are two choices; a safe and legal abortion or an unregulated illegal abortion. And FYI, many women who are faced with an unwanted pregnancy wouldn't go to see a doctor for an illegal abortion. They would commit suicide, attempt an abortion themselves, or hide the pregnancy and kill the baby. These cases are unknown and unreported, and thus the statistics are impossible to determine. All I am saying is that women need choices, and although abortion is not the ideal choice its better than suicide, infanticide, or illegal unregulated abortion. PS: I just felt the need to clarify my point since I think you misunderstood. I am not going to reply to this thread anymore because I am not on the forum to discuss abortion, but rather to discuss lapband issues.

    Is it selfish?

I can't help but to wonder if she did have some idea that something would go wrong. It makes me wonder if this is just a coincidence that I am reading this thread just one week before my surgery. Is this a warning?

I just can't sleep thinking about this family. I truly hope they can find peace. I am so sad for them.

    Is it selfish?

Oh my god....I just read a thread that says Mom2bbb did in fact die a few weeks ago. This is really sad....and especially since she was feeling so guilty about doing it. I just cant help but feel so sad for her husband and children. Things like this really make me question my decision........

Wow, Peter thank you so much for sharing this information with us. It is a bit frightening going into my surgery next week. Your wife was a courageous woman and you should be so proud of her. I am amazed at your composure and rationality in not blaming her death on the surgery until there is sufficient evidence. My heart is with you and your family.

Band aid in frozen dinner?? What to do????

This thread has single-handedly convinced me to vow to cook all of my meals....no more eating out/packaged foods/frozen dinners. Obviously this is a bit unrealistic in the long run, but I am definitely going to strive to cook as many of my meals as possible....from scratch. I think thats the only way to KNOW what has been put in your food. ::::still cringing::::
