  1. Good to hear such positive results. Way to go!
  2. Complications can happen, but they are the minority and exception and not the rule. So sorry for what your friend is going through.
  3. No, I haven't done most of those. I won't take NSAIDS because I fear they'll hurt my stomach. I know better than to drink with my meals. I've had no trouble getting in my daily protein. I've never skipped a vitamin. I do eat out though, but I make healthy choices and order healthy food options.
  4. Yes, I have monthly measurements and keep it on a spreadsheet and I've also taken monthly photos and do a collage on a free photo editing website to show my "before" photo and "after" photo so that I can see the difference.
  5. Mine cleared up for my immediately post-op. I used to take Omeprazole daily for 5+ years prior to surgery but ever since surgery I haven't needed it at all and no longer have GERD or Acid Reflux.
  6. Today is exactly 8 months since my VSG surgery. I haven't lost as much weight as I had hoped to be this point, but I got back my first lab results since having the sleeve done and I am reflecting on how much healthier I am now than 8 months ago. Since having the WLS I have gotten rid of several co-morbidities: no more high blood pressure, no more sleep apnea, no more GERD, no more acid reflux. These are the best lab results I have EVER had! My triglycerides 18 months ago were 353 and now they're just 104! I'm not pre-diabetic anymore! I'm having no trouble absorbing vitamins . . . in fact they're way above the range where they should be, so I'm super-absorbing them now or something, taken just one soft chew each of Vitamin D, B12, Calcium Citrate and Multivitamin daily. So as I sit here sometimes wishing the scale was showing a lower number, I recognize how blessed I am with these great health results and am so happy that I had this surgery.
  7. Don't force yourself to eat. You can make it on fewer calories and protein shakes. Enjoy this losing phase.
  8. I hear ya! I've tried everything to break the stall and slow weight loss. I tried liquid-only and fewer calories, but that didn't work. But I did have some success on adding more calories, up to 1200 and that showed me some weight loss.
  9. I can tell you what a difference the sleeve surgery has made for me at 54 years old in the last 8 months. I no longer have Sleep Apnea, Gerd, Acid Reflux, or High Blood Pressure. I've gotten rid of all of those comorbidities. I feel so much better and more confident. Good luck on your WLS journey.
  10. My pre-op diet was 1500 calories/day. I don't remember if I lost anything or not as I had already been eating about that much anyway and dieting.
  11. Just keep reading through the different threads in the forums and you'll find all kinds of topics that will be relevant to how you mother is going to feel, what she should be eating, what to pack for the hospital stay, etc.
  12. Definitely buy some protein shakes when you get where you're going and stock up on them in your minifridge.
  13. I also take antidepressants and some other prescription medication and I had no problem swallowing them starting the day I got home from the hospital post-op. Just take them as usual. By the way, there is no problem with absorption of anti-depressant medication post-op in case you were wondering.
  14. It's always best to have everything in the best shape when you undergo surgery, so be glad your doctor cares enough to make sure your levels are appropriate before putting you under. Good luck.
  15. It's likely water weight or just a slight variation of the time of day that you weighed. Don't worry.
  16. I take Biotin each day as well as use Nioxin shampoo and conditioner and even Minoxidil on my scalp all to help stave off the hair loss.
  17. Sounds like Acid Reflux. Are you lying down after you eat by chance? Try some tums and watch what you eat/what causes it and try to restrict those foods.
  18. Try to stick to the pre-op diet because you're going to be eating on a "diet" for the rest of your life and have to get used to a new way of thinking and eating.
  19. Congrats on getting your surgery date. It's only 10 days out . . . are you already on your pre-op diet and preparing for the procedure?
  20. It's only two weeks. You can do it.
  21. I started them the day after I was discharged from the hospital post-op
  22. Probably unrelated?
  23. I've had people tell me I look younger in my AFTER photo compared to my BEFORE photo
