I’m 53 and had the sleeve surgery on December 31. I’ve been very lucky. I can eat anything I try (in very small amounts) and have had absolutely no side effects. I recently went through a weight loss stall but seem to be moving down the scale again now.

She has talked with her doctor numerous times and everyone is aware of the condition. Her surgeon passed away. She had to be operated on within 3 days of her gastric bypass for an ulcer. After she got out of the hospital she was on a feeding tube for over 6 months. And now she is rail thin and feeble because nothing stays down, except chips and junk food like that. I am having surgery on Monday, Dec 31 and this is the only thing that scares me. My surgeon has assured me this is not a normal thing and that heredity should not play a part in this but I'm still a little concerned about it.

My mom had the bypass surgery years ago and after even after all these years she keeps very little food down. She can keep chips down but no salad or chicken or any kind of meat. There are so few foods she can eat. This scares me. I’m wondering if any of you find you can’t hold down a lot of healthy foods.

JessLess I agree with you. This is my journey and it won’t be like anyone else ‘s journey. Comparing will only put more pressure on me and I don’t need it.

I had my sleeve on 12/31/18 and other than occasional Constipation (because I don’t take in enough Water when I’m working) I haven’t had any complications. It’s been 6 weeks today and I’ve lost 26 pounds. Not the most but very respectable. I was 231 on surgery date and I’m an even 5’0 short. I believe my future is good!

I’ve found it best not to compare myself to other people in this and most areas of life.

My sleeve surgery was Dec 31. I’ve had issues with a lot of bloating and Constipation. I’ve been on Clear Liquids since surgery but will start a modified full liquid diet tomorrow (cream of wheat, Protein Shakes, pudding, yogurt plus clear fluids) and will stay on that for 2 weeks. I was 226 pounds the morning of surgery and was 228 a couple of days ago. Just trying to get the constipation and bloating under control.

I can tolerate pretty much anything at this point. EXCEPT artificial sweetener. I've always hated it, but now the taste of the chemicals just horrify me. SF popsicles were the end for me!

I agree with @James Marusek Has your mother talked with her surgeon? Vomiting after meals is not typical. This may be a medical issue.

I had sleeve surgery four years ago. I have never vomited after surgery.
I can tolerate all foods. including sugar (no dumping syndrome) This means I have to choose my food wisely or I will gain weight. I prefer and enjoy eating healthy food.

I’m on my 10th day of the liquid only diet before surgery. The doctor’s nurse told me I could cheat on Christmas so I had a very small piece of ham, a tablespoon of mashed potatoes and white gravy. But back today to total liquid.

This whole thing is a hell of a head game, honestly. Whenever I came on these forums and allowed myself to compare, I was convinced that I was losing at a slower rate than everyone else, but it's been 9 months and I'm down 90lbs so clearly my perception was way off.
Just focus on eating right, drinking Water, getting more active and paying attention to your doc. Everyone's body is different and we only remember the comparisons with others when we come off worse, so avoid that if possible.

There are two quotes love in regards to this weight loss journey
"Comparison is thief of joy," and "Men have become the tools of their tools."
This is "your" journey and someone else is on "their" journey... You are not on the same race track, even though you are running the same type of race. Everything about your race and everything about their race is completely different. Don't lose sight of your own journey, race, goals, etc... by comparing yourself to the differences of others.
Where you are today, is not where you will be tomorrow. Don't let someone else's today steal your hope for tomorrow.
