THE SLOW LOSERS CLUB SUPPORT THREAD

I’ve been very blessed having a dr and his team that are not only supportive, but encouraging. And all of us here need to be mindful that different drs have different opinions and plans. And if you’re going to stay with your dr, trust his plans for you. And also like everyone says we are all very different and will have our own journey. I’m 12 months out, have lost 70 lbs, with still about 40+ to go. It’s been a very very slow journey. But my dr feels I cannot get the adequate amount of protein in without shakes. And when I seriously up my protein, I finally lose some pounds. Just wanted to weigh in. Haha!

THE SLOW LOSERS CLUB SUPPORT THREAD

I truly am in the slow losers club. And most of the time I stayed super upset about it, but I try to focus on the fact I HAVE lost significant weight for the first time in over 35 years. I had my surgery a year ago, and needed to lose about 150 lbs. I’ve lost 70 lbs. however, I have only lost about 10 lbs in the last 5 months. Still get in about 90 gms of protein, drink my water, stay under all carbs and sugar amounts. I go to the dr this week for my one year check up. Am very anxious to hear what he had to say. Again, while I had surely hoped to have lost more by now, I’m so thankful I’ve lost and feel so much better!!!!

I cant believe how far I have come..

I’m very excited and happy for you and your success. I’m also quite jealous. But that’s ok. I had my surgery Dec 26, 2018. Highest weight 306. Day of surgery 285. So many similarities. However, I’m only down to 219. But then I’m also 65 years old and been overweight for 37 years. My fat is comfortable and loves me and doesn’t want to go easily. Ha! First goal is 185 -losing 100 lbs. then on to 165 or less. Can hardly wait! You keep on doing great! Keep your eyes on the prize of a healthier, happier you!

    Anyone NOT track their calories?

I was never told to count calories, either, but to count proteins, carbs, and sugars. I have to admit I’m horrible at it. No excuse. My fitness pal app on my phone is unbelievably easy. And I also must admit that when I do track my foods, I’m much more accountable, don’t tend to eat junk and lose better. Try the app. It’s really great

    Sleeved over 65

I had my gastric sleeve surgery Dec 26, 2018, 2weeks before my 65th birthday. Let me say that no matter what, this has been the BEST decision I ever made for my health and well-being. The weight loss has been slower than anticipated- 65 lbs in 6 1/2 months. But oh my. I’m smaller than I’ve been in 37 years, and that is such an boost to my confidence! Except for “pooping” issues, I have had zero problems. I wish you ALL of the health and happiness! And... you go girl!!!!!

Premier Protein – Not Premier for Bariatric Patients!

Premier protein is the ONLY one I can tolerate. I BARF with the others. And I drink 1-2 every day. Gotta get my protein somehow.

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

I hit the infamous 6 month mark yesterday. The last two months have been stupid slow in the weight loss department. I will admit I’ve been discouraged. I fuss at myself a lot. I stay on my eating program 100%! Exercise and walking not so much. I even have an expensive recumbent bike right here in the living room but... anyway. I ve finally lost 55 lbs. about 1/2 there

    Angry 1 year post op

I was a very over weight female for more than35 years. However, I always made sure my hair was fixed and I dressed nicely. Wouldn’t see me tacky out side of my house! And almost everyone I know understands that I had weight loss surgery. And I love hearing people say I’m looking good. Even though my looks is not the reason for the surgery, I have to admit it does me good to hear the compliments. Obviously it is just me! But that’s ok. I’m loving the new me, and can’t wait to lose the rest.

    50+

I had gastric sleeve 12/26/10 — 5 1/2 months out. Feel fabulous. One of the BEST things I’ve ever done and not just for myself. I want to be a healthier and more fit and more fun wife, mama and Gramma! I truly feel the best is yet to come! Oh — down 52 lbs! Almost 1/2 way there!

    December 2018 Sleevers!

My journey isn’t as grandiose as others, but great all the same since I weigh less than I have in well over 30 years! I just passed 5 months since surgery, and finally broke the -50 mark! Woo Hoo for me. (Now only 60 more to go. Almost 1/2 way there!). And I’m so thankful for the weight loss chart. It helps me not feel like I’m doing something wrong when I’m trying to do everything right.

Bariatric surgery was a big mistake

I am so very sorry you feel this way. But I’m at a loss. I take a vitamin in the morning and eat two chewables. I’m OFF all my other meds! My whole life STILL revolves around eating. My family gets together and we eat. We go out with friends and eat. We fellowship at church and eat. I always bring a drink and almost 75 % of the time there is something I can eat. If not, I still join in and visit and talk. I don’t feel neglected. Everyone we know supports my decision to have the surgery. My husband and I go out to eat all of the time. I either eat my 1/2 cup off of his plate, or just get an appetizer or a kids plate. I’ve lost 50 lbs in 5 months. Kinda slow, but exactly what the dr told me to expect. I have about 60 more to go but IVE NEVER FELT BETTER AND MORE SUCCESSFUL IN YEARS. I hope you find some peace.

    Hair losssssssss

My big question is when does the hair start growing back. I’m 5 months out, take my vitamins and get my protein, take extra biotin and PRAY for my hair and my vanity. But the hair loss started about 5 weeks ago and has not let up. Almost scary. My hair is so thin you can see my scalp all over. Any ideas on growing back time?? Oh, and my experience is I’ve lost hair elsewhere also.

    ❤ MAY 2019 CHALLENGE❤

I promised myself I wouldn’t write anything on here, but... oh well. I started out my May challenge with the best of intentions and good motivation. Maybe lasted a day. I am truly in a depression right now having the biggest pity party. I’m almost 5 months out. I had lost 40 pounds at 3 months and have only only lost 8 lbs in the last 2 months. And yes, I stick to plan, drink my water, and get my protein in. I’m just here. That’s it. And I hate feeling this way. Sorry to unload.

    Extreme Measures

I know lots and lots of people and their doctors have extremely varying opinions on all food issues, but my surgeon totally believes in drinking the protein shakes. Even forever. He feels that many people can stay at goal better by never trying to think they need to eat “normally”. It’s the mind thing. Keep your protein intake up with a shake or protein water, and eat the rest of your meals right and measured for the rest of your life.

Did your surgeon want you to lose weight before you got surgery

My dr understood my situation. If I could lose weight and keep it off I wouldn’t be needing the surgery! I had tried every diet, program, protocol, lifestyle change, etc for years. Now, my insurance wanted my weight monitored, and I was asked to adhere to a high protein, low carb and low fat diet for the 90 days before surgery, and not gain weight. Then only 7 days before surgery a liquid protein diet and 24 hours of no food before. Easy to do for I couldn’t wait for the chance at surgery!

    Let's talk about body dysmorphia

Yes. He’s definitely a keeper. This month marks 42 years of one incredibly terrific marriage. Includes 4 great sons, 4 of the best daughter in laws and the 2 prettiest, smartest, loving and loved little granddaughters! I’m blessed! Truly! Now to get thin again, healthy and ready to do all of the fun things my body has balked at doing for quite a few years. Woo Hoo!

    Let's talk about body dysmorphia

I’m hard on myself for no reason. I’m 4 1/2 months since surgery and have lost 47 lbs. I need/want to lose at least 60 more. I’m discontent with how much weight. So many people have lost so much more by this time. I’m where my dr said I would be, however. So last night my sweet husband took me outside and gave me a 40 lb bag of salt and told me to pick it up. Well I really couldn’t. Then he reassured me that bag was less weight than I’d lost and to think I was carrying that much around. Sometimes we need help adjusting our vision!

    ❤ MAY 2019 CHALLENGE❤

A little late to join in, but this is a challenge I can do. Haha! 4 months and 2 weeks since surgery. My current weight thus morning was 238.5. Down 43.5 lbs. I’ve been on a weird stall since my 3 month check up. I’ve only lost 3.5 lbs in 6 weeks. Frustrating, but it’s ok. It’ll happen! My goal for May is to do a week of intermittent fasting, and if successful, do more. Another goal is to daily ride my recumbent bicycle. It sits in my living room and calls my name, and I just ignore it. Gonna make it my friend. My 42nd wedding anniversary is the 28th. I’d really like to see the 220’s by then!!! But any weight loss at this time will be appreciated! Let’s do this!!!

    Fear!!

I put off having weight loss surgery for a long time. Why. Fear! Then I had very serious back surgery with plates and screws etc. the pain before the surgery is horrific. I had a fabulous Christian surgeon who warned me that my back was a mess and additional surgeries were probably in my future —unless I could lose at least 100 pounds. He knew I had tried everything, so he suggested the gastric sleeve. So 4 months later I had the surgery. And that was almost 4 months ago now. BEST DECISION I’ve made lately. I feel good! I’ve lost 45 lbs. and I know my health is daily improving. Follow your drs plan. Eat what they say. Keep up your Protein and your Water, and take your Vitamin regimen. And PUT YOUR FEAR ASIDE! And don’t listen to nay sayers. They come out in droves. I told no one except for my very supportive family and my Pastors. My ONLY regret is not doing it sooner. (However, now was the right time) I’m so glad God has given me this chance to get healthier to enjoy retirement with my husband of 42 years and enjoy my kids and especially my grandbabies!!! AND there are lots of supportive and encouraging people here in this forum!!!

    Intermittent Fasting Daily Menu/Results/Accountability

I have always joked I will change anything in my diet or give up anything, just don’t mess with my coffee! I drank it one specific way for way too long! But dr said no caffeine for at least ) months. FOR REAL?!?! Well I’ve probably had 4 or 5 cups of decaf coffee in the last 4 months. Good coffee, too. But just not quite the same. I miss it but that’s ok! Just an extra comment here: my son and his wife have totally embraced IF since Christmas. They have done phenomenally!!!

    Buying clothe

One bittersweet comment: I had a few really nice items that were a few years old, but had gotten too tight. Thought I’d get them out for something “new”. They’re way too big too! I told myself I’d just wear my clothes like sacks. I didn’t care. But I do. Did get a new Easter dress that fits and shows off a thinner me. Helps the old confidence!

To Frustr8: I’d love to get to know you. You’re my kinda gal! I worked for over 10 years fitting mastectomy bras. And yep... saw lots of tube sox titties! And now I get to see my own. Hahaha! I too want to see 175 or less, but I almost cannot wait to see less than 200. It’s been over 36 years! ( I had 4 over 9 lb pregnancies, and it was with the second that I went over 200. Like I said, I can hardly wait!!! Always enjoy your posts!

    Pounds lost

I had my sleeve 12/26/2018. Down 42 lbs. kinda slow compared to some, but it’s just where my dr said I should be. And besides that I feel GREAT!

My bariatric doc believes in protein shakes. He tells his patients is you can tolerate them to just include them in your forever diet. He says that his most successful long term patients drink them and don’t over eat trying to get their daily allotment of protein. Sounds sensible to me! So easy to drink my lunch.
