  1. Hey Bariatric family!!
I’m four weeks post op and the thought of food makes me sick. Protein and Water are my best friend. I have had some puréed stuff and a tiny piece of white fish. Once I eat something and put it up for “later” the thought of it disgust me. Will this go away?? Any food ideals?? Besides chili and fish?? The thought of chicken makes me want to pass out. I’m feeling good and everything is going well , just scared that this will not go away. Thanks in advance for all replies . These forums have gotten me through some of the hardest times of my life after vsg surgery.

    Hi congrats!!!

I only took off 6 days.. prob not advisable but I felt well.

i als9 have a sit down desk job- first day I only did 3 hours to ease myself in , next day was 5 1/2 etc and so on

the only thing I had issue with was the sittin puts pressure so I was constantly getting up and walking.

i work in a dr surgery so I also had a space to lay down when needed.

Thanks for the information, I’m actually thinking about taking 7 days off, I know it not advisable as well but I’m going for it, I do have a little wiggle room if I’m unable to make it through the full 8 hour shift, thanks for the reply it give me hope !

  3. Hey everyone, those that have had surgery already, how much time did you take off of work do you think it was enough/could use more time I’m scheduled for January 30th and I am going to request my letter from my surgeons office tomorrow to turn into work. I do have a desk job btw , thanks in advance

  4. Hello!! January 30th is my date. I’m nervous. I lost 130 pounds on my own in the last couple of years and have gained at least 50
Of it back, I keep telling myself this is the right thing to do I don’t want all that weight back, I’m glad I’m catching it in time but I am still nervous. I got a surgery date 5 years ago and backed out due to my career and trying to do it on my own. Now here I am again and I refuse to back out.Wish me luck and God Bless.

  5. I have completed all of my pre op requirements, my insurance required 3 months. I had my annual pap and it came back abnormal (dysplasia) this is my first abnormal pap , go figure! I talked to my OBGYN after I received my results she said there was nothing she can do and scheduled my appointment for next year to monitor it, so no problem right? Well my weight loss center now wants a clearance from her, I spoke with her and also the center called her as well. She told me she would look into it but she was not sure why they would need a clearance from her when my next annual appointment is scheduled and she is not treating me for anything at this time. I pressed the weight loss center and let them know she is not interested in giving me a medical clearance regarding this for my surgery. I don’t know if it’s a liability thing or what. I am so SAD I have been preparing years for this backed out twice and now I was finally ready and now this. Has anyone experienced this or something similar. Thanks in advance.

I have a different flavor of BCBS that required 6 months of physician-monitored diet. But from the time that my program submitted all of the required paperwork to approval was 9 days. My surgery was scheduled for two weeks later. Out of pocket, I paid around $1000. The anesthesiologist was not in-network and was about $270 of the total cost.

Sounds about what I was thinking, reading the plan book is overwhelming and the amounts seem high!! Thanks for the reply

  7. I see there are some posts on here about this topic but none are recent. I have blue cross blue shield federal. Has anyone recently went through the process and had surgery yet. I have one more visit before my doctor submits my paperwork to the insurance company. I had to do 90 days as a requirement for my insurance. How long after paperwork was submitted did you get an approval also how much out of pocket did you have to pay. There are Focus, basic and standard plans so I do know each one has different amount of coverage. Just trying to get an ideal of what is to come in the month ahead. FYI** I know everyone has had a different experience and had a different path. Regardless of that I would like to hear yours *Smile*

  8. Hello all, I was wondering if any fellow Michiganders that have any tips on the best insurance for weight loss surgery. My employer has open enrollment and I’m thinking about switching insurances to a plan that has a shorter wait time for approval. My current plan is a year. Thanks

  9. Keep your appointment. If you miss some appointments the clock starts over again. Your doc/RD need to know of your struggle.
Hello... thanks for the advice... this would have been my first missed appointment out of the entire 6 months I guess that's why I am upset because I had 6 months and now a 10 pound weight gain at the end, nonetheless I will go to my appointment.

  10. I plateaued towards the end of my 6 months. It's not that unusual. If we could maintain a diet long term, we wouldn't need surgery.
I'm not sure what advice to give about postponing your appt. If your insurance doesn't have any stipulations about your weight during the diet, it should be ok. I'd keep the appt and if it's bad, then just ask them for another week to get it back on track before sending in the notes from that visit.
Hello ... my thoughts exactly... surgery is my last resort... after failing to loose weight and keep it off for most of my adult life.. hopefully my appointment goes well *fingers crossed*

  11. Hello all.... I have my last appointment (friday) before my paperwork gets submitted for approval. I had a recent doctors appointment and I could not believe the scale. I gained 10 pounds since my last month bariatric weigh in. I believe the weight gain came from self sabotage knowing that my last appointment was coming up. I found it very hard to stay on track. My weight has fluctuated during this whole 6 month process but the 10 pound weight gain would put me right at what I started at 6 months ago. Im Thinking about cancelling my appointment and giving myself a week or two to really push myself and see how much weight I can loose before I do my last weigh in for my 6 month requirement. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions? FYI my insurance doesn't say anything about weight gain, but the doctor suggested that I be under my starting weight for insurance purposes and showing active participation in the program. I'm very upset with myself to get to this point and now this.

    Thanks

  12. I had my first EGD several years ago when I had my first colonoscopy. Stomach looked horrible even though I had no symptoms of anything. I tested positive for H Pylori. I did the two weeks of antibiotics along with Previcid and retest (stool sample) was negative. When I had my next EGD 5 yrs later my stomach looked perfectly healthy.
If you tested positive you should do the treatment because H Pylori is thought to be a cause stomach ulcers and cancer, so I was told.
I read about the ulcers and stomach cancer being linked to having h pylori. What a relief to know 5 years later your stomach was still healthy. Hoping my situation will be similar. Thanks

  13. I was also tested for H Pylori during my endoscopy and I had no prior symptoms. I took the antibiotic and did a test 2 weeks later and it came back negative. On the bright side I would not have known I had H Pylori if I wasn't doing weight lost surgery.
Glad to hear it went away!! I'm praying mine comes back negative when they re-test me because I cannot do another round of antibiotics. They are very strong and I dont care for the way they make me feel [emoji30]

  14. Hello all!! So I had all my lab work done.. Everything was great Except I was positive for H. Pylori... the doctors office called and said they ordered two different antibiotics that I have to take for two weeks. I have read several articles on h pylori and am still clueless I dont have any of the symptoms especially the weightloss and poor appetite Part . No stomach issues etc. Is anyone else in the same boat as me? It worries me to have to take a antibiotic for two weeks it seems like such a long time. I am crossing over into month four so I know the doctors know best. Just wondering what someone elses experience was? Thanks So Much

  15. Hello all... First time poster.. I have less than 3 months before surgery.. I am 34 and a mother of 2 wonderful childern. 7 yrs and 1 year old. I remember hearing women say how hard it was to lose weight after having children and I used to think BS!! This has now become me and has been me for quite some time now. It seems like if I look at food I can gain the calories from it without even eating it. My question is how do mothers with young children cope with the Snacks in the house. My children are very healthy both physically and mentally both love fruits and veggies and do not have not weight issues. I pack my daughters lunch for school so I tend to keep extra in the pantry. I cannot completely remove snacks and certain foods from my home, like I have done before I had childern. How do mothers cope after surgery with having childern and staying out of the snack pantry. I am thinking of all the things that got me to not being able to control my weight and i have come to the honest truth that indulging in snacks and also eating their leftover food from of their plate contributes big time to me not being able to control my weight. Before I became a mother I rarely snacked, grocery shopped maybe a few times a month, now I'm in the grocery store at the least a couple of times a week. (I love the grocery store) any tips. Thanks in advance!
