    Concerned...

I have not been banded yet but I have been reading the heck out of these forums and did stumble across Surgical Weight Loss 5 Day Pouch Test maybe this would be something you could try?? good luck with school and the band  Kim
  2. Teenagers are curel (when they want to be) Ok so I work at Juvie, and I am a shift supervisor. I WAS having a good day, scale is going in my favor... fit in to a pair of shorts I couldnt fit into b4, and then I came to work  I stepped out onto the floor during the meal as one of my staff were tied up in an intake and they needed an extra person on the floor. I am by the way one of the staff that they like the least, I am the one who gets to tell them how much time they get in room confinement if they are acting up while with us. Well there is a staff who works "A" shift who is a REAL peach and none of the kids like him, and he is looking like he is about 8 months pregnant but walks around with his chest all puffed out cause he is God's gift to the world. Anyway one of the boys noticed I had on the same kind of jean shorts the mr. "Peach" wears and goes on to say how sad it is that a lady fits into the same sizes of stuff as Mr. Peach. Your a lady, you shouldn't have to wear those. he says. Well I have been called alot of things when the kids are mad at me and most of them are centered around my weight. We are trained when we start working in an environment like this that you have to know what "buttons" kids will try to push to get a rise out of you, and generally I dont let it bother me at all but tonight it just flew all over me because we were on the floor and he was being loud enough for all the boys to hear. Some of them had the decency to be embarassed, but all this ranting to say.... Teenagers can be CRUEL:mad2: when they really want to be... if you have kids in middle or highschool and they come to you about something that has happened in school or where ever PLEASE listen and offer support and do not belittle what they are going through. Ok off my soap box!! I even enjoyed my nummy salad and told my staff, well if he thinks he's telling me something I dont already know he is mistaken, that is WHY I am doing something about it finally. __________________
  3. Michelle that did make me smile  I have a little watch dog in my 12 year old... I asked for a drink last night and my older daughter was going to brink me a cup of regular tea with sugar and BooBoo (younger one) fussed at her and told her that mommys doctor said she couldnt have that to get my decaf. tea with splenda in it  So I am blessed with a good pair of pre-teen and teen (thank GOD) They even make sure I have walked or exercised everyday... They will keep me honest and being a healthy mom for them is worth ALL of it.. Kim

    No Weight loss!

Not a doctor or a nutritionist and not banded yet but ... If we are on fluids only and scarcely getting in enough to get our metabolism going we will not lose weight during that time. My nurtitionist told me to aim for 1000 calories pre and post op on my liquid diet but no less then 800 because it would be bad to not get enough and things would stall... Just my 2cents  Sorry had to edit this... When I am in the same postion you are please feel free to quote me !!!

I ahvent been banded yet (June 3rd) My hope is when I've lost enough weight to get a tummy tuck that some of the skin that is removed will get rid of some of the scars  heres to hoping!!!
  6. The sobering thought that makes me shake my head is... in 20-30 years they will be the ones taking care of us..... but yes there are good ones inthe bunch that break your heart and make the job worth while. that's why I come to work everyday... some of them only get the Love we give them..

    A catch 22 situation

Ask and make sure that they will not use the weight of your intital appointment for the insurance approval... I asked the same thing about what if I go under the 40 BMI with the presurgery diet. As long as they use the intial weight it does not matter how much I loose presurgery, or even b4 I got approved for the surgery... maybe yours will be the same... crossing fingers for ya Kim
  8. My surgeons office scehdules everything for the same day... so it was like marathon testing... but all done... they even got them for a day I was off work... they are GREAT.. and I am spoiled and luv it
  9. Hey Penny what do u do?? I am a shift supervisor at juvie and I am having to take 2 weeks off dr. orders and then when I come back I will limit my time on the floor with the kids just in case a fight or something breaks out... but as the supervisor I am not supposed to be restraining kids anyway  Almost never happens anyway (maybe 2 times in a year actually) Unless someone gets stupid and gets arrested then I get to process the females into the facility... so thats all the concern I have And I have an office I got a fridge for so I can keep all my food I can have in my office instead of what they have on the floor with the kids. An advantage overall LOL

Couch to 5K Anyone want to start with me ?

Ok just got back from the park.... I blended up my slimfast high protein and a banana and some ice and it was actually really gooood  I drank it on the way to the park... When I got to the park I did not pull in the space all the way so that I could use the "tire stopper??" to stretch the calves... I stood on it and let heels fall to stretch calves and stood on toes to stretch shins for a 10 count (X3) I also did ankle rotations 10 clock wise and 10 counter clockwise.... (X3) I kept my pace steady... a little slower then normal ... but steady.... and I felt my shin some but not really bad at all... and it walked out quite nicely... by the time I was on my way back to the car it was walked out completely... and felt good when I got back.... I did the same stretches when I got back to my car and drank a bottle of water on the way home... and I felt alot better when I got out of the car when I got home... I think I just need to concentrate on my "brisk walk" and resume the couch to 5K when I get that down pat.... at least I am getting my 3.5 miles in and am adding in another 3 minutes to my walk (making it 63 minutes total for 3.5 miles), with my heart rate still in the target heart rate area.... Sorry I am justifying to myself instead of feeling like I am failing and taking a step backwards.... thanx for the help and letting me whine and babble Kim

Couch to 5K Anyone want to start with me ?

Wow thanx guyz... hope you give me hope  I have not yet walked today... I am going to do my slimfast high protein and blend that banana right in with it!!! Then I am going to go to the park and I am going to STRETCH and walk!!! It's really cool timing cause I got got my new blender delivered by fed ex!! yay.... ok so here is to improvements and positive thinking!!! and the muscle stuff makes so much sense it is like duh :/ I can actually pull up on the edge of my desk while I am typing this!! so this should be easy to incorporate... and if it works believe me I will stick with it... anything to make my shins feel like they are not going to blow up!!! Thanx again guyz!! Kim

Couch to 5K Anyone want to start with me ?

Well today ended up being just a walk day... It was cold and misting and I didn't realize how windy until I turned around to come back and my car was 2 miles away :wink2: so I made better time coming back then going down My shin did start to act up but I just kept my pace steady and it worked itself out and felt pretty good by the time I was done. So I guess I will just listen to my body and just keep to the every day aspect of it

Couch to 5K Anyone want to start with me ?

Well ugh I guess I am not going to try the banana thing??? Starting myself of the high protein diet today and looked up nutrition information for a banana and boy are they full of carbs and sugars I am going to do a protein drink right before I go to the park and am going to stretch today before I start... I walk an hour so I am going to try walking the first half hour and if the shins feel good I'll do session 3 of week one on the way back to the car!!! Hoping and praying it goes well!! I would like to be to week 3 by my surgery I figure the more progress I can make the easier recovery will be and the easier it will be when I get back into it post band.... I really dont want to just give up until after the band because that is reinforcing an old habit :argh: Kim

    Protien Diet Anyone??

My appointment with the surgeon is on May 22nd and I will be starting my pre-op diet on the 23rd. So far I THINK this is what it will entail Full Fluids 70 grams of Protein 64 ounces of Fluid daily 800-1000 calories daily low fat 0 sugar this times 11 days prior to surgery... May 23-June 2 Surgery June 3 I am still wrapping my brain around how to do this one and going to ask about carbs as well I am starting on Slimfast high protein and Protein Bars and south beach meal for supper starting today and following that through until my appointment so we will see if that helps the transition go smoother... yikes I have heard from others at support group that if u can make it through the pre-surgery diet the surgery is cake (pun?!?!) I am scheduled to be banded on June 3rd!! I am part of a club yay

Couch to 5K Anyone want to start with me ?

hhhmmmm its funny u meantioned the bananna... I went to training for work for "handle with care" and we are up and down off the floor ALOT and use leg muscles more then usual and everyone did the banana thing before we started for the day!!! I am not one for stretching at all honestly... just start at a slow pace and make sure I do a cool down walk... it could just be that easy :welldoneclap: I am going to stretch out tonite and take a hot bath though ... my shins are still tight and all day at work today on my feet didn't really help that to much.... thanx for the input will let ya know how it goes :Banane53: Kim

Couch to 5K Anyone want to start with me ?

I have the Nike+ running shoes and they are really good I asked the sports person that I did the walking test with and she said that it could be a number of things from the change in my stride to how I come down on my foot, and that my shin muscles would toughen up and it wouldnt hurt as bad after a while... oh joy.... I guess I just need to listen to my body more when I am walking and be patient... I am sure it will be better when I am not 125 lbs over weight anymore.... still feel like that skinny person inside just wants to bust out and do things the heavy reality of me cannot do :welldoneclap: Just frustrated today I guess my shins are still tight today and its rainy so I think I am going to take Mothers day off and go back at it tomorrow.... I think I am going to try incorperating the podcast into the middle of the hour I walk and take longer to warm up and see if that doesnt help. All I can do is try I guess thanx for listening to the ramblings Kim

Couch to 5K Anyone want to start with me ?

I am amazed that so many have this pod cast. I actually started it this week and got through the first day, ok took a day off, and went to go walk/jog yesterday and my shins were killing me!!!:Dancing_wub: This is not a new thing... if I get to over zelous I get my shins to hurting and then spend the rest of my hour walking out the shin pain, at a slower pace then normal and do not get as much accomplished. It is completely frustrating because I can last the hour and be able to talk while I am walking and jogging I just can not handle the shin pain. This is what always gets me frustrated and out of my groove... I actually use the ipod and nike+ and I have a better pace and burn more claories if I just walk and pay close attention to my pace starting slow and staying steady as I increase it... Anyone know what I can do to get my shins to catch up with my progress??? Or what I can do different to get them to not start hurting ??:confused2: Just want to stay motivated and not fall into the same cycle of taking a fewe days off to let them feel better and get out of the habit of going to walk at all... :tt1: Kim
