Ask for the senior nurse or the doctor and ask for the butterfly
It’s an IV- no such thing as a butterfly for that.

Took me 6 tries for an IV- eventually they used the doppler and anesthesia put it in. SUCKKKKKKKKED lol
Still bruised all over my arms.
Try to relax as best you can and they will get it.Anesthesiologist used ultrasound machine and was able to get it. My other arm now has huge hard hematoma.
Glad that part is over- best of luck...you will be in your room and walking around before you know it!

I am just a little over two weeks so my advice....take all the drugs they give you, pack light but I did put underwear and my own pants on before I went for my first walk and it felt great to have pants on and not an open cape or whatever ... walk and then walk more. Sip sip sip. And make sure you have liquid Tylenol for at home. I found that helped me a lot after. I didn’t take narcotics when I got home but did take Tylenol for a week off and on as needed. I also took my pillow with me to my room and found it helpful when getting up. Don’t be like me and leave your phone charger in your room when you leave though 🙃

I switched on day 8 to purée and then 5 days later to soft foods where I am now and will be for a month or so yet. But some soft foods are better than others and I am taking my time adding in different things.

Just now, bariutiful said:I had RNY.....I had a low fat string cheese twice and was fine and I use a tiny bit of shredded cheese - any kind you like- colby jack and mozz have both been okay for me. I made a ground turkey chili (you could try something like that once you are on soft foods.)-- I never would eat ground turkey before but this didn't taste bad at all. I like fish and most seafood so I am thankful for that. You never know, maybe you will like it now

I am on the same schedule almost. I am on soft foods though for forever LOl....4 more weeks. I am just going to eat a lot of fish. cheese has been fine for me.

Just now, bariutiful said:I did one small can of chicken, light mayo, pepper and a tiny bit of celery salt- too much and it's overly salty gross- omit if you don't have it or like it. then puree it - one small can made 1/2 cup so two meals but i never finished it either time I ate it.

6 minutes ago, bariutiful said:Hello everyone, any tips for purée stage?
I just finished that stage Sunday. I didn't really puree much...some chicken salad once (canned chicken) which was okay. Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta bake and I had Soup once I think... I was only on puree for 5 days though so I guess it depends how long you have to do it.

When you're only eating 3-500cals per day and using 60 of those for Vitamins and 10carbs or something. GRRRRR! LOL. But you just gotta suckitupbuttercup and geterdone.
Ooooo I didn’t add those into my tracker. That will add some calories!!

Thanks. I can’t wait til I can swallow my Vitamins !

Just now, FluffyChix said:Wow, at 2 weeks. Congrats! I was only just starting softs at 2 weeks if I remember. Don't overadd cheese. Your bowels may be whacked for a while. And cheese will really stop you up. You need to be sure you are "going" well right now. I'd add stuff like canned chicken, tuna and salmon pouches, sardines, hb eggs or sb eggs, soft scrambled eggs, poached fish, mashed cauliflower, soft green Beans, broccoli cooked to beyond hell, keep the yogurt. Add some avocado. Add a little good healthy fats. Add a couple of olives. I was between 500-800cals through most of my loss. I still have to be down around 700cals to lose on average.
This is all super helpful as your posts always are. I am carb sensitive (at least pre op) so I like to read your posts
I just started softs Sunday night (fish) and I have been eating canned chicken, mash cauliflower, turkey and sweet potato chili which I have been eating leftovers every . single. day. Not too much cheese but i have been lucky- regular every day since surgery and not needing supplements to get it moving. Olives are a no but I do love avocado so I will add that in. I haven't tried eggs yet because I see so many people get sick. I am going to try them this weekend.
I have had a few close calls where i ate too fast and felt like it could come up but I just stop eating. But the scale is NOT moving and that caused me to panic a bit even though I know I shouldn't. It's a journey for sure... Thanks again for the advice!

Just now, FluffyChix said:Why are you limiting yourself to 1 PP drink per day? You should aim for 2 or 3? I'd do that over Fairlife, but that's just me. At 2weeks I was between 3-500cals/day. But if you MUST have Fairlife (which doesn't have as much Protein and has more carbs), then I would use SF Hershey's chocolate Syrup in it rather than do the chocolate Fairlife cuz of the amount of carbs/sugar in it.
I am not limiting but I am meeting my Protein goals without it.. I get 30 from the one shake and then get 15 from Breakfast (yogurt) and then the balance from dinner/lunch. I am on soft foods now so have not needed the two shakes to get 60-65 protein. If I have a second shake i'd be closer to 90+ protein and over what I should have. The nutritionist said 1 a day was fine as long as I am meeting the 60-65 range which I do every day. I noticed the FL choc had a lot of carbs....so that is a no. UGh this is tricky lol
I was thinking maybe I could add in a string cheese with lunch and something else during the day but I don't know what!

Hello....I am two weeks post op and my nutritionist wants me to up my calories to between 600-700 max but I am hovering between 450-500 right now. She suggested a cup of fairlife milk, which is all well and good except I don't think I can drink it plain. Has anyone had the chocolate fairlife milk this early post op? I was thinking maybe I could try that. Or anyone have any simple suggestions (besides making a shake w/ fairlife because I am sticking with my one premier shake a day)....I thought of trying to find a higher calorie yogurt but i really like the Siggi's I have been eating or Fage. I can add a little calories here and there, but it would be good to have a go to one shot type of thing.

Sounds like you hit a stall which is common. I wouldn’t worry about it. Just stick to your plan

I started back to work yesterday and decided to also start back at the gym. Needless to say, I was in bed early last night!
Also happening last night, was my first episode of eating too fast....because I was late getting back from the gym and had to hurry and eat to get to a booster meeting. OMG. PLEASE make sure you take your time eating. I swear to god I learned my lesson on that one and it was an awful one to learn.
Today is 2 weeks since my bypass and so far I am down 18 pounds! Pretty exciting!
That’s great. Congrats. I’m only down 7 since surgery but not worrying yet. Still too early to freak out lol

Not at all...I didn't really measure anything but I used the recipe as a guide. I definitely put a lot more chili powder and cumin in because I dont like bland food and I don't mind heat..but this wasn't spicy IMO.
here is the recipe

Yes. She has some really great tasting easy ideas. I’m just making one or two meals a week since it will take me days to eat them but I plan to keep trying new things. This was really good.

Tonight I made a skinnytaste recipe - turkey and sweet potato chili. I was always anti ground turkey but this was really good. Maybe I will try to use it more often.

Did your doctor give you a PPI to help with the reflux? Most will especially if you are sleeved. I had RNY but have a PPI for 6 months.
