  1. Natalie finally emailed me about 7:30 and said that she didn't know what happened and that she'd call me in the morning. I think the weight loss and hormone thing could definitely play a role in depression. I used to have way more problems before I had a hysterectomy. And I had really severe PMS. Honestly, having a hysterectomy was the best thing that ever happened to me! And I think getting banded will be even better! Maybe your hormones are way out of whack with the weight loss. You really should mention it to your doc. Maybe there is something he can do to help. We have a nursing educator program at my college. The hospitals here are so desperate for nurses (as they are everywhere) and a huge part of the problem is a lack of teachers. We received a large grant from Intermountain Health Care to start a program. You're such a nurturing person . . . you'd probably be a fabulous teacher! What were you doing in Haiti? Were you in the Peace Corps?
  2. PS for Dee - the secret to being a life-long student is to become a professor. Have you ever thought of becoming a Nurse Educator???
  3. Dee, have you talked to someone about your depression? Sorry, not trying to be nosy, but I have a doctorate in cognitive neuroscience (a branch of psychology) and have also dealt with depression in my own life for years. The brain is a complicated organ, and not something you can easily fix on your own. You're such a lovely woman, and you shouldn't have to suffer. Just my two cents.
  4. Oh good, I'm glad your fill went well and that Tom is a nice guy. How soon will you know if the fill is right? That's something I've been thinking about with regard to coming from out of town for fills . . . Well, I'm still waiting. Not sure what to do at this point. I called the office but just got the messagin system
  5. Dee, how did your fill go? Everything okay? I'm still sitting by the phone waiting to hear from Dr. K. He was supposed to call an hour ago ...
  6. Dr. K. was supposed to call me 20 minutes ago for my consultation. I'm a nervous wreck. CALL ALREADY!!!
  7. Ugghh . . . I HATE swollen ankles. I don't know how nurses can be on their feet for so many hours at a time. My daughter works at a pediatric hospital here in Salt Lake and works 3-4 twelves a week. It just amazes me.
  8. Thanks, Dee. I'm sooo excited. Good luck with your fill! Have you figured out yet why it's making you nervous?
  9. Dee, I think the world needs some cool funeral directors! You could inject a dose of (tasteful) humor into the proceedings and make it all a bit more palatable. Anita, we have Sodexho at my school as well. I've never seen it the employees referred to as Sodex 'hos. That cracked me up. I may have to introduce that at my institution :scared2: When everyone gets their Wii Fits we can have Wii challenges! Of course, since my fitness age is oooooolllllddddd, I'll probably lose them all, but it would be fun!
  10. YAYYYYY Shelbie! WTG:thumbup::thumbup: Wii fit: Set mine up today, calculated my BMI (no surprise). Then it calculated my fitness age - 10 full years OLDER THAN MY ACTUAL AGE!!! Well, that kind of sucked. Then my husband hopped on, and his fitness age is 15 years YOUNGER than his real age. Well, that means that I'm 25 years older than he is with regard to fitness levels. AARRGGHH! Then I had to go get my driver's license renewed. My pic looks like some eyeballs, some hair, and several chins. YIKES. I just keep telling myself that, a year from now, things will look lots different. Anyway, the Wii looks like tons of fun and a good choice for those of us who would rather DIE than work out in public.
  11. Wow, I was away from my computer for 1 day and all sorts of exciting things are happening on here! Lap, you look fantastic, as do your toes. Wow, the difference between the first photo you have posted and the new ones are amazing! And congrats on the upcoming little one! We had to leave our brand new little grandson and come home (damn!). It was so much fun to hold him . . . I only wish we were closer (10+ hour drive). I would love to be a doting grammy but it will be tough with him so far away. I hope the challenge goes well for everyone. What a great idea! Can't wait till I can participate. I feel like July 2nd will never come.
  12. Well, on the topic of grandchildren, my daughter gave birth Friday to our first grandchild!! We drove to northern California and were here for the birth. She ended up having a C-section so is still in the hospital, but we've been able to see her and the little fellow every day. Being a grammy is the best! The challenge sounds like a blast. Wish I could join, but I have no idea what to expect as far as pre-surgery diet and weight loss the first month post-op. I'll be watching to see how you all do though.
  13. lololol . . . but it would be sweet while it lasted. mmmm hmmm.
  14. cookie dough . . . mmmmm, I LOVE cookie dough. I would marry cookie dough. :tt1::tongue:
  15. Thanks, Dee. And I'll be sure to watch out for Shelbi!!
  16. I don't mean to sound sappy, but I'm really happy I found this thread! You guys are so supportive and so sassy! My kind of women! I can't wait to join you on the bench and share toenail polish with you. I can't really reach my toenails at the moment . . . but someday!!!:wink2::biggrin:
  17. Hi Deb. I haven't ever heard that, but there is a whole thread for people over 50 who have had surgery . . . you should ask them. Maybe it's harder to get insurance to cover it????
  18. Welcome, Deb! I'm new too and will also be traveling from out of state to have surgery with Dr. K. And, yes, this forum is the best.
  19. I am considering going to Dr. K, but wonder what type of pre-op tests he requires? I am self-pay, and am hoping that I won't have to spend thousands on pre-op stuff. Does anyone know?

    Hello from Kristy :)

Hi Kristy, and welcome! I am not yet banded either but have a surgery date of 07/02. This is a fabulous place. I have learned so much from reading the posts and have been so inspired. You can always get sage advice and lots of support. It's the beginning of a wonderful new you!
  21. Damn those evil cookies!!! Don't let them sneak up on you. They sometimes hop in your mouth when you're not looking.

    Considering a lap band

wow, Salsa. That's such an amazing story . . . and very hopeful. I am so out of touch with my hunger that I have no idea when to eat anymore so I just eat to be eating . . . I have been so worried that I will have no success at all with the band and it will just be one more failure. It's great to hear that it can work, even for people who eat when they're not hungry!
