    Unnecessary sleep study?

Is it 2000 because you haven't met your deductible yet? Because you'll have to pay your deductible in order to have the surgery. So whether you pay the 2k deductible for the sleep study or the surgery it will all be the same. That being said my son did an at home sleep study and we didnt have to meet the deductible for it.

    Halfway to surgery

I love the info. My nut did a piss poor job sharing this info with the group when we had our one and only presentation. I'm going to order the collagen right now. And I am not taking any omegas so I need to add that.

    Gallbladder sludge-Surgery???

I had mine pre-wls and also pre-internet so I just had it removed without questioning it. They told me at the time that my super low fat/ no fat eating triggered it. I had awful morning sickness all 9 months so I would eat dry toast etc. Leading up to the surgery date (a few months after childbirth) I ate no or low fat because I thought that triggered the gallbladder attacks but they told me in the er that was totally wrong. I've had mine gone for 24 years and i dont miss it.
  4. When is everyone going to surgeon/ center visits post-op? My insurance changed to Kaiser so I am going to go to their center for post-op appts instead of MY surgeon/ nut center. I am new to Kaiser so I just want to make sure whatever appts they schedule are what the standard is. I think with my surgeon there was an appt at 3months out but not sure how often after that. I've been paying oop for my nut visits so will be happy to have it covered by Kaiser.
  5. Thank you so much for this! Kaiser looks so much more thorough than my surgery place.

    Advise on supplement routine

Maybe you can research the products on this site and buy them from Amazon? I originally bought directly from Bariatric Advantage because there is a huge upcharge to buy that brand on Amazon. But I am finding some items on this site to be cheaper than Amazon but I am in US.

    Advise on supplement routine

I just bought a bariatric multi from this site and it is nice to take 1 capsule of the multi instead of the 3 capsules of the bariatric advantage brand. Cheaper too. I bought the bariatric advantage brand chewies calcium. There are a lot of flavors and they are really a treat. They are too sweet/ candy like for my taste now and are higher in carbs than they should be imo. But I liked them before surgery. This site has a lot of options and information if you go into their online store. I alternate my leftover calcium chewies with Citrical. Those kind of suck because you have to take 2 pills 3 times a day and even though they say petite they are big. The chalky chewable type of most pills taste nasty to me so I steer away from them. Sometimes I use vitamin b drops. Sometimes I drink a yakult (probiotic drink). I take melt in your mouth biotin to try and keep my hair.

    Questions

You are doing well making your notebook ahead of time, I wish I did that! I've said before I don't think my center did a good job of preparing me. And you don't know what you don't know. And my first post op poop was scarier and worse than childbirth and my first kid had a big melon and I had no anesthesia. So buy a bottle of those little glycerin bullets you can put in your butt and it melts the log so it doesn't turn into a granite poo. I never used a suppository in my life so I had no idea there was a simple cheap preventative tool available that would have saved me the agony. Worse than kidney stones I am not even kidding. Don't stick up on loads of things you think you will need unless you buy it from walmart and keep the receipt so you can return it. I stocked up on protein shakes which I loved the taste of beforehand and which I hated and still hate after. I ordered a case of clear protein from Amazon and it could be a wonderful way to have a light and refreshing way to get in protein but I absolutely hate their sweet taste. And I was a sugar freak before! Also I bought a bunch of the calcium chews that taste like starburst and come in a ton of flavors and now they are worthless because I hate them but before surgery they were delectable. So maybe wait and see what your tastebuds want after surgery so you aren't stuck with a ton of product. I didn't know you didn't have to stress about protein or vitamins the first week or two and it would have been awesome to just focus on water and not feel like I was failing. Buy a thin short sleeved robe for the hospital because you will need to walk around and go potty a lot after surgery and you wont have to worry about your butt hanging out. If they allow it maybe a short sleeve jammies or nightgown would be a good idea because the hospital gown is so uncomfortable with its high neck and stiff fabric. I am a slow loser but I am no longer a non-loser. Be happy about every single pound that is let go. Don't judge yourself by comparing to others who may lose super fast. You might feel panic and regret for a bit afterwards but everything gets better in some way or other. It's normal and it will pass. You might lose weight in places you dont expect and out of order than what you would think. Like my feet are skinnier to the point i am donating some now floppy shoes. And my wrists are skinnier. It would be nice if the universe would focus on my thighs instead but I am not worrying about the things I have no control over.
  9. And I had bruising like yours but only below my belly button. The surgeon said it was due to sensitivity to the blood thinners in the iv.
  10. It is a lot of protein at first. I rely on tasteless protein powder that I can mix into fair life milk (lower sugar, higher protein) or mix into cottage cheese or yogurt. My diet started at 1/4 cup of food 3 x a day. And then the portion went up over time. And no snacking at all in between. Our rule is no drinking 15 mins before and 1 hour after eating.
  11. I think it is good to keep in mind that even if you get a complication it will more than likely be just one and not the whole list of possible bad outcomes. And you can deal with it if it happens. I told myself I wouldn't worry about dumping unless it happened to me and then I would figure it out. And your surgeon has dealt with probably all possible complications so there will be a game plan. Just look at any complication as a hurdle. One you can jump with the right tools and support. So if you wind up being prone to dumping you figure out what triggers you and you stay away from it. And most hurdles get smaller as you heal. It gets easier to drink water. You figure out the best way for you to get protein in. Everyone is so different so there will be lots of advice available if you need it.

    Liquid diet

Depending on the doctor's requirements and your insurance idk if you might be messing up your chances of getting approved. All insurance and doctors are different. So if you do a liquid diet and lose 20 pounds they would have to take your word for it. And then if they say we want you to lose x amount of pounds this month you might be slowing down and unable to lose ANOTHER 20. Documentation is the important part. Unless you go to your pcp and get weighed in beforehand so there is proof. Some docs dont have you do a 2 week liquid before surgery. And if you are on the edge of your BMI that might throw off your insurance approval if you drop below their threshold. I was told to just lose a few pounds a month for 6 months before I could get approval but my pcp said to keep it just at that so my bmi wouldn't drop too much. You could always call and ask the office person ahead of time and see what they say since they know the criteria.

    Calcium Chews

I'll look at my packet and see if it says why.

    Calcium Chews

Idk. We only had one giant group meeting with our nut. They had "no gummies" written on the wipe off board. And I'm a sheep. Starting to do my own research though.

    Protein shakes...

I did the same but made the mistake of stocking up on some and my tastebuds and preferences totally changed post surgery. I had shelves of stuff I had to give away. I had an endless sweet tooth and now I hate sweet things especially diet sugary stuff.
  16. Sweettoothless

    Calcium Chews

Mine had us start the vitamins immediately. They said to just stay away from gummies. That being said the bariatric advantage chews taste like starburst at a time I definitely didnt want anything sweet so I was chewing up the horse pills labeled as petites until I could swallow them. I still take the chews once in a while since they are bought and paid for but I'd sure like to find a better calcium routine. Swallowing those giant pills 3 times a day is getting old.
  17. Me too! I had no idea until the tape around the perimeter of a big square of gauze melted off the skin underneath it the same day. I still have the scars in a square shape on my belly almost 2 months later! Now I will have to note that for future surgeries.

Could Someone 'Splain This To Me?

I used a top-rated surgeon at a top-rated hospital. We had ONE group meeting with about 30 people with a nutritionist who spent the time pushing one brand of vitamins and products. They said they didn't sell the products yet after the surgery I found out they actually work for the supplement company. We received one stapled packet of info, most of it enlargements of the nutrition labels of the supplement company they "didn't sell for." So our group knew the ingredients of that one product line but not a whole lot about the surgery. I woke up with a drain and had no idea what it was or what it was for. The hospital provided a typed paragraph reminding me to dump it regularly when I left. I had to Google a lot. Real nutrition classes and meetings with a nurse should have been provided. The fake required class was nearly $200 cash. No surgeon follow up only a few minutes to pull out the drain. So in my case my insurance covered top-rated surgeon's lack of support and program would force me not to recommend him to anyone I knew personally. Some of us have to self-educate more than others. Labeling someone as stupid is unkind and speaks of your character, not theirs.
  19. Got there at 11 for a 1:15 surgery time. They had me leave a urine sample so they could run a pregnancy test even though I am almost 50 and my husband was in a different state for the month prior so no nookie. They gave me a gown to put on. The anesthesiologist came in. Rumor had it the the whole anesthesiology team was super hot. Totally true. Then they brought my husband in. They were ahead of schedule so my surgery got bumped up 45 mins. They shooed my husband out and wheeled me to operating room. Super-Hot stopped me on my way and put something in my iv and I was out before we even got to the operating room. In recovery I woke up with clavicle pain, worse part of the whole thing. Stayed in recovery room for several hours because my room wasnt ready which I was cool with because i was sleeping. Only given tylenol. No stomach pain at all. Rang for potty "help" and some young guy came in to help me which wasnt my thing so i watched how he disconnected everything. I didnt let him assist me in the bathroom and he asked that I stay on the potty and ring for him to help me up. Yeah no. So each time I needed to potty after that I just disconnected myself and reconnected myself after. I wasnt wobbly on my feet so I felt ok doing it.

    Bariatric doctor

I was worried the same way. I kept expecting the insurance company to say no. The doctors usually know how to play the insurance game and will help you to jump through all the hoops. My pcp told me to lose 1-2 pounds each month but not more (I had to go to 6 consecutive monthly pcp appts as an insurance requirement)

    Surgery and Divorce - Advice!?

Practice exactly what you are going to say to him when he tries to slither back into your bed. It will happen at some point. Even if you never actually say it to preserve your co-parenting. You could say, sorry I only go to bed with men who work out/ have a full head of hair/ good teeth... whatever his Achille's tendon is.
  22. I would just cut the recipe in half and then freeze the leftovers in tiny individual servings. Or send the leftovers home with your friend! Don't deny yourself the tiny portion of your favorite food on Christmas!
  23. I think it is exhaustion driving you to eat. I never realized how much I ran to the fridge when I felt tired. Especially if you are breast feeding and avoiding caffeine. Idk if it is even possible for you to get a nap in or an early bedtime. And dont cut out all your carbs since you might need the energy.

    #2

Buy the stool softeners! My first 2 poops were like granite. Worse than childbirth and I had big-headed babies! I'm at almost 6 weeks and I still rotate colace and milk of magnesia and sometimes glycerin suppositories.
