    Old Band, New Me!

How are you holding up funfem65?
  4. Hey how are you doing? I am sick, sick, sick of liquids and am counting the days till mushies (Tuesday) I lost some weight but for some silly reason thought I would lose more what's your feelings on this. How did you recovery go my first week was real rough but now I feel pretty back to normal. Turns out I was dehydrated so now I am force feeding myself liquids and the doc wanted me to add some calories so I do carnation Instant Breakfast twice a day with skim milk. How pathetic that that is the highlight of my day. I did this so I wouldn't be obsessed with food and now that's all I think about. Add me to your friends and we can send messages to each other and be cheerleaders!

    Old Band, New Me!

Welcome! I was just banded on the 13th so I am new to everything here. If you are gaining why haven't you had a fill recently? Just curious.....
  6. Becky you are my idol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. lilNora, we all had surgery and there is bound to be discomfort it can't be helped but it's certainly not all that bad. I made sure to take the pain medication my doctor provided for about the first 3 days every 4 hours. I had a terrible ripping pain at the port site that only went away yesterday but each day it lessened and when I couldn't take it out came the tylenol with codeine and then I'd be pain free for a few hours. For me the hardest was the drinking the amount of liquids required. Not because I was sick but I just didn't want food or drink. I ended up severely dehydrated so lesson learned is drink drink drink even when you don't want. I am still at the beginning of this journey but I am looking forward to the future and the me I have the potential to be. Also if you read enough of these posts from those who went before us you can see that you won't be drinking protein drinks for the rest of your life, believe me after the first weeks of liquids you won't want to!!!! I am 8 days out and will be happy to throw out my blender after this stage. You will be eating "regular" food just healthier smaller choices. Don't listen to what others say no one knows how you feel until they have walked in your shoes. We are wired different and wouldn't be in this place if we could just say no to food but it doesn't make us faulty beings! Good luck on your journey!

    Really Stressed Out

Having worked in a doctor's office I can tell you that you have every right to report this doctor to the local medical board and too file a grievance with your insurance company. I would then find a new surgeon ASAP. I went to Journey Lite and I believe they have offices there in your city. It might be worth coming to LA and seeing Dr Helmuth Billy my surgeon he is know for repairing other surgeons errors. But congratulations on the weight you did lose despite the pain and suffering you have had to endure due to the incompentancy of the surgeon you choose. I wish you all the best in the next part of your band journey.

    Post-Surgery Check-In

Kristey just wanted to tell you how I love all the pictures you added to your signature....very funny and uplifting. How's your post op doing?
  13. My doctor repaired my hernia during surgery because he said when I reached my goal you would be able to see the hernia then I would need it repaired then so why have surgery twice?
  14. If I am understanding my doc right liquids are passing right thru our band and into our old stomach prior to first fill. My stomach started growling yesterday for the first time I am hungry so I just upped my protein shakes which seems to help a bit. Still having gas and that horrid shoulder pain so I am sticking with the gas-x and taking tylenol with codeine to help me sleep. Also still having that ripping pain at the port site but it seems to be decreasing ever so slightly.
  15. Funny you should bring that up I was a heavy diet coke drinker and thought I would go mad without it but until I read your post I hadn't thought about it.....weird huh? You will do great!! Good Luck
  16. Yeah same day I had it done at JourneyLite which is a surgical center and I guess as a cash pay no over nite allowed. I was so bloated I thought I was filled with helium and that damn shoulder pain!!!!!! I has been sucking down gas-ex.
  17. I was banded on the 13th I was at the surgical center at 6:45 filled out my paper work and handed over my check and said goodbye to my husband. I went in the back with the nurse who let me change into my gown and then put me in bed. She put in my IV, gave me a heprin shot in my stomach and let me cry on her shoulder I was so nervous. Turns out she was a bander and had lost over 100lbs. She really calmed me down. She then gave me something to drinks that tasted like liquid sour patch kids that candy you get at the movies. Then the anetesiologist(?) came in and said hello then they walked me into the surgical room. Last I remembered was saying I guess you gave me something to calm my nerves. When I woke up I was in recovery and asking for ice. I had trouble waking up I keep dozing off Actually 2 other women who had surgery after me left before me. Finally at about 1 I told them to get me up so they said they would walk me to x-ray. When I got there I was so sick to my stomach I threw up. They took an x-ray and everything was in place so they took me back sat me in a chair for about 20 minutes and sent me home. I did find out from the doc at discharge that I had a hernia at my belly button which he repaired. I slept most of the first 2 days because I needed the tylenol with codeine. I am 4 days post op and still in pain I feel a ripping pain at the port site every time I try and get up or move in a certain way. It has lessened a bit today and I was having the same thing at the hernia site but that was gone today. I am doing clear liquids and tolerating them well and doing protein drinks but feel week from only having clear liquids. I am tryinng to stay positive and I have lost 7 pounds as of this am.
  18. I am still in pain I was banded on the 13th I feel like my side is ripping where the port is every time I try to sit up or stand up straight. My incision looks ok too. Have you tried the Gas-X strips they have really helped with the gas. I even went to the bathroom for the first time today since surgery don't know if that was from the strips sorry if that TMI. Try Kashi Golean with skim milk blend it with ice cubes it's like a milk shake! Good Luck

    Post-op diet????

My post op (banded 5/13) diet is liquids for the first two weeks and mushies starting the third week. I couldn't tolerate the whey protein either then someone on this site recommended Kashi Golean and I tried it with skim milk and it's great no dusty after taste! Eggs do not qualify as liquids I am afraid and you don't want the band to slip by not following the diet. If you want the eggs I would call the doctor first.

    Working after Surgery...

I was banded on the 13th and have had a very slow recovery and could never imagine going to work next week. Up until today if I stood up I felt like my insides were ripping. Today that has decreased but I am still so sore and I feel weak from the clear liquids maybe pshing 50 and having hernia repair at the same time has something to do with it. I guess what I am saying is you can't go by anyone other than yourself! Good Luck

    My Fellow May Flowers.... HELP!!!

you'll be fine. I had to put off my surgery by a month and I think it gave me more time to mentally prepare and now that it's done I couldn't be happier! sore but happy

    Post-Surgery Check-In

I just started the gas x strips and I am feeling some relief. My pain at the port side did decrease a bit today so that leaves me hopeful. I also had hernia repair at my belly button and that hurts every time I try to get up! Talking to my friend who had surgery 2 weeks ago and she said it all goes away eventually. Did the doc give you pain meds?

    Banded Monday May12th

have you tried the Kashi Go Lean shakes another bandster recommended them and it has been my lifeline. No funky after taste! I have to be on clear liquids for 2 weeks and I am just sipping water, broth and juices plus 2 or 3 shakes a day. I am sure I am not doing enough but between the gas and severe port pain don't want much except to take pain meds and sleep

    kashi go lean shakes...

I like the way you think!

    kashi go lean shakes...

I don' know what I would be doing if I hadn't come across your post! You are my savior. I tried a few protein drinks before surgery and they made me gag. Then I read your post and bought the Kashi and it saved me I have no trouble drinking 3 a day. (I cut the suggested serving in half). Thank-you for sharing! If only the rest of my post-op was as easy
