    Any good salty post-op foods?

I like those cambell's Soups that are for cooking: PepperJack cheese, Nacho Cheese watered down and then I strain any bits out. It is the bomb.

    spicy food

I agree with CindiLooWho re: the drinking before meals. As far as the spicy food thing goes, I am only a couple days post op but love spicy food. I just sip with my food and once I am on regular food I will just limit my spicy meal to a few times a week and drink fluids with it. Since I am following the plan I doubt these few meals with fluid will make or break it for me. JMHO

    5 days out and treadmilling..

bbsoft, what is the lowest speed you are doing? Are you inclining at all? I just got up to 1 MPH for 45 minutes with NO incline. Of course I can not stand up straight, have to hang on to the handles and have a cold rag on my port site 'cause it is not exactly a comfortable walk.
  4. I had my first hunger pain the night after surgery. Now I am trying to learn if I am hungry or have gas?! Which seems so funny and down right stupid to me. My main 'food' has been this pacific island creamy soup collection I got at Walmart: Pacific Natural Foods | Creamy Soups I am DIGGING the sweet corn and cashew ginger carrot. I also am drinking grape Crystal light, trying a Popsicle now and again and and having 4 oz of choco. Protein shake and teeny bit of espresso in it w/ sf flavored syrup in the morning. I am sending my DH to the store to find other items for me or I will get board really fast.

    Favorite broths, drinks, etc.?

I have been experimenting: 1) Better than boullion organic chicken Cream Soups (no chunks at all) have been my savor: 2) Pacific Natural Foods | Creamy Soups Sweet Corn - AWESOME Cashew Carrot Ginger - add a dash of pepper and some molly mcbutter - it is GREAT I have not tried all the other flavors but will post all the results when I get my blog up and running.

    Super-juices/drinks for the liquid diet

Yah, my DH is big on the Bolthouse Farms too. I haven't had any since my surgery but will add it to my list. Personally, my opinion is whatever you can get down that is 'healthy' --forget the calories or carbs right now.
  7. I new I was going to have a hard time too with the physical withdrawals - everything from nausa, to migrains, too sheer fatique. I started on the whole 'pre-op diet' 3 months early because I new I would crash and burn many times (like whole weeks at a time) but I needed to show a 'loss' to the doc. Regarding your questions: 1) What all are you supposed to have under the gause 'liquid' 2) I have read on the boards surgeries were canceled for people, but it would greatly differ from surgeon to surgeon I would think.

Having to sit up to sleep...

I take the pain meds, have 12 pillows divided between my backside and my right side and start in my bed in the upright position. Then after I sleep like that for a few hours I slowly remove the pillows from behind me and scooch down my bed until I am comfortable and lying on my back. I sleep with my arms above my head because it feels like I am opening my mid section for less pressure. Of course today was the first day I could get outta bed on my own, but it wasn't easy - usually my husband has to pull me up and lift me outta bed. I thought about our recliner, but I was scared I would get stuck, by myself in the living room!!!
  10. I had my surgery Friday the 18th (and being as I had my son c-section 11 yrs ago) I was thinking this should be a piece of cake...Man I feel like such a freaking baby for having to take my pain meds every 4 hours without fail or I am in soo much pain. Tell me I am not a total baby and this is normal???! I am wondring how long this will go on for me??
  11. Thank you all for posting back to me and sharing your personal experience. I have been taking the Roxicet (Oxycodone + Acetaminophen) since I can not tolerate the vicodine (sp?) I am on a similar cycle as you bamagirl: Water, walk 30 minutes really slow on the treadmill b/c our yard is hilly, gasx, walk around the house, then sleep for 3 hours.. I am gassy, but the pain is from my port - constant throbbing (reminds me of the c-section pain) and I was running a low grade fever Friday & Saturday (but not today). Shard- that is a perfect explanation! I guess I had convinced myself that I was wonder women and this would be 'speedy recovery':blushing:. MedicSunshine, we are on the same healing path (I am sending you cooling healing vibes:cool:..ice sure sounds good to me too!) You all are so awesome!! peace

    Self-Pay out of the chute!

Hello! I am also self pay (see siggy) my doctor handles a lot of self pay clients and he has a process that he has us do: 1) Initial Consult 2) 2 week pre-op medifast 3) 1 free seminar where you get to meet his staff and hear their successes etc. and bring your family 4) Get your Rx filled before the surgery (he gives you the script at step 1) 5) Hand in all your preop paperwork consent forms 6) Get a phone pre-op meeting with the surgery center 3 days prior to surgery. Pretty slick if I say so myself! (and I have something to compare it to! I was originally going through my insurance co. for the RNY GB - but changed my mind:scared2:)

    HELP!! Pre-Op Diet!!

Sorry to hear you are 'walking up hill' right now.. But one thing I wanted to tell you is (and of course I didn't believe it myself until I tried it) that if you get over 60 grams of Protein a day (like 75) your hunger will go WAY down and you wont feel soo tired. In order for me to do this, I had to find low cal/carb ready to drink shakes that have 40+ grams of protein in them as well as any food item (aside from beef or chicken) that was high protein, low cal and tasted good. An awesome one is LeanBody choco. icecream flavor. I also went to vitashoppe.com and got these (this may sound grose but they are really good) ostrich/beef pepperoni sticks and (wich are 90 cals and 18 grams of protein) I never got into ketosis (which I believe is what your doc is trying to do for you to speed up the weightloss) but I was able to loose 18lbs in 2 months (even when I fell of the wagon for at least 3 weeks of those 2 months) Good luck!!

    Depression after surgery?

If it is not time released meds it could be: 1) Pain pills (they are notorious for messing with peoples emotions) 2)All the estrogen your fat may be releasing as you loose weight. 3) Maybe you really are sad or there is someting bothering you. Just b/c we take meds doesn't mean we don't feel down and sad sometimes like everyone else. 4) You have a major life change right now. You are not loosing it or anything like that.*Big hugs* you will be better.

    Pre-op diet help!!!

Like the others said, even if you had an entire day of being off the plan, just get right back on the plan and drink as much water/crystal light as you can to flush yourself out. I didn't mind my medifast diet 2 week that much but there were days when I could not win (family pressure to 'go out to dinner' etc.). I doubt most people are perfect on the pre-op. You have 4 days. THOSE ARE 4 DAYS you can be perfect. Go to sleep early, get movies, go shopping..do anything you can to stay away from temptation and it will go fast.
  16. Seeing my reflection in windows over and over. Having to order all my clothes/bras/panties/shoes online because I can't even were lane bryant. Being able to only (in person) shop at a fat old lady store. My feet are so big and round I can't even by normal shoes. Litterly not being able to fit in a booth and having to ask for a table while everyone stares at you. Not getting an agency jaket like all the other staff because I could not fit into the sizes.. Having my stomache and chest shoved out forward when I ride in the passenger seat of cars. Not being able to bend over. But most of all.. Not having ANY photos or videos with me and my husband or me and our son. No one should have to live like that.

    shakes and protein questions

Here is my list: bariatriceating.com 1) Choco. "Lean Body" RTD (ready to drink) Has more carbs but is really filling and tastes like ice cream without the Protein after taste. 2) Costco: Premier Choco. 1 carb and mixed with coffee is my own starbucks. 3) Isopure:puke:OMG sooo gross, no carb. only tolerable mixed 1:6 parts crystal light.. 4) Spiru-Tein® High Protein Energy Meal* dry packages : Cherry Jubilee awesome..chi Tea...awesome. Pretty much all these ones are good. 5) Whey Bullets... same as #3 Some of my tricks are: Buy tons of flavored sugar free syrups and make your own fruity and candy bar flavor drinks by adding, say a vanilla or choco. base . Also get sugar free popcicles for the summer and add it to your fruity Protein Drink for some icey frappé pizazz.

    What does this mean???

too many friggn hoops with my insurance company too (then they ended up only covering RNY GB:thumbdown:) I decided to do a payment plan and self pay using carecredit.com:thumbup: I figure people buy cars on credit and this is to save my life. if I had to to do all that cr@p just to get the help I need..my luck would be that the insurance company would stop covering it right before I got to the finish line. I feel for you. Just reading all those RIDICULOUS requirements makes my stomach hurt...insurance comps. suck.

    Weight Watchers?

I have always liked WW. If I could naturally shrink my stomache & have less hunger I wouldn't need the band-- ww points would be enough... Right now, I am on my pre-op medifast diet. Doing medifast has made me think that once I am banded I may need to be a WW person too. In the past what I did was use my points calc. on the lowest wt possible which gave me 20-25 points per day. & I basically never used my flex points. That worked for me when I was 170-200. Before starting to do Medifast I played around w/ my points calc seeing how many points Protein, vege and carbs would be based on what my banding nutrionist told me to eat once I am banded on on solids. It didn't even touch 20 points. I dunno know about you, but I am willing to do: Banding, Jenny Craig, Medifast & Weight Watchers all at the same time if helps me get outta this fat suit!!
