  3. Hi! Your stats are similar to mine. My highest was 365 - surgery weight was 327 (on 10/10/18) and current weight is around 312. And today I went to the gym for the first time in 10 years!! I went with a friend who has a membership. I did 25 minutes on the treadmill which isn’t super long but I DID IT! And then I JOINED the gym so I can go anytime now!! I plan to go again tomorrow and shoot for 30 minutes!! 👍

    Supportive spouses?

My husband was and is still unsupportive. I had wanted WLS for years but he was very against it so I never went through with it. This time I went through all the appointments and got my surgery date before I even mentioned it to him. So instead of a discussion, I TOLD him I was having surgery on October 10th. Then we very rarely discussed it. He did not bring me to the hospital on the day of my surgery and originally was going to be out of town that day. Eventually he moved around his schedule and he was there after I got out of surgery. I knew I needed to do this for ME and I just wasn’t going to let him derail me once again! I’m only 3 weeks out (tomorrow) but I’m SO glad I did it! I wish you the best!!

    Only 3lbs down since surgery

When I came home from the hospital I weighed myself the next morning (I was stupid - they told me not to). I figured I would be down because I hadn’t eaten in 3 days. I had GAINED 9lbs!! I couldn’t believe it! But then I realized since I hadn’t eaten if was obviously all the fluids they pumped on me! By my 2 week post-op appointment (my surgeon doesn’t do 1 week) I had lost THOSE 9 lbs plus 10 more!! So down overall 10lbs in 2 weeks! My point is - especially right after surgery you can’t stress about the weight because you probably still have fluid in you. As long as you are drinking your water and getting your protein in you will do great! Good luck!!

    T- 14 days

You can do it!! And believe me - I wish I had done it YEARS ago! I’m only 19 days post-op and I feel great! The first 4-5 days were tough because of nausea and heartburn - but since then I’ve been great! And I’d take a few days of feeling crappy for a lifetime of being healthy any time!! I think everyone gets pre-surgery jitters but you’ve got this! Good luck!! 👍

    They called my work!!!! D:

I would be LIVID if this happened to me and I didn’t want my coworkers to know!!! What did you say to the HR person! And definitely your doctor’s office should not have said where they were calling from. I’m so sorry this happened to you! 😰
  8. Matt - I live in RI too. Where is this place?? Oh wait - maybe I don’t want to know! Lol
  9. That is SO NICE of you! I’m sure it will help a LOT of people! I went last week for my 2 week post-op visit and I brought a bag full of clothes and took a few too. (I didn’t need to take many since I have LOTS of clothes too small for me!!)

    Constipation

Maybe try Miralax too. That’s what helped (and still helps) me. My nutritionist recommended it and it works. Good luck!!

    October bypass

I understand how you feel. My husband was working so a friend of mine too me for my surgery. He did come later that night but a was nauseous and vomiting (which he can’t be around) so he didn’t stay long. The next night he was out of town so he didn’t visit at all (I stayed 2 nights because I couldn’t keep anything down). I was very disappointed in him - but proud of myself for doing this for ME! As for constipation - I think the pain meds make it way worse. For that reason I never took any. I have enough trouble in that area! Since I came home I take Miralax every day and it seems to be working. Good luck and keep your head up. You are on your way to a healthier you!! 👍

    Movie Theater?

I would bring a protein shake (in case I get hungry) and water of course!

    Social outings suck now

I am a bar person too and I made my first trip to the bar 6 days after my surgery (surgery was 10/10) and I’ve been 4 or 5 times since. I just drink water and I bring a protein shake just in case I get hungry. Just try it and see how it feels! It’s not as bad as I thought it would be.
  15. My doctor’s office has a nutritionist that maintains a “closet” - which is really a room - that people can bring in clothes that they have outgrown and take clothes in their current size. It’s all sorted by size so it’s easy to find the size you need. It’s AWESOME! I wish all offices did this. 👍

    Social outings suck now

I was sleeved on 10/10. I still go out. I just drink water now. All my friends know I had surgery so it hadn’t been an issue. I would rather go out and have water than miss out on the fun!
  17. Can’t help with the sustenance- but the one thing that really helped me through the liquid stage was getting wonton soup from my favorite Chinese restaurant. I just had the broth but it was so good and “familiar” which for some reason made a big difference! Good luck!!

    Gallbladder

My surgeon puts all her patients on medication to stop gallstones. We take it for 6 months post surgery. I’m only 2 1/2 weeks out so I don’t know if it works or not.

    I don't think I'm ready ):

I don’t know if you are ready or not. I will just say that I had been wanting surgery for years but only did it 2 weeks ago (at age 52). I feel I missed out a lot on my life for not doing it sooner - but not anymore! It was the right decision for ME. You need to decide what’s right for YOU! But please make this about YOU and not your family and friends. You need to put YOU first! Good luck with whatever you decide!!

Is one week off work enough?

I also have a desk job. I’m taking 4 weeks off - but definitely could have gone back in a week. I think working would make the liquid diet easier since you would be busy and your mind would be occupied. Good luck whatever you decide!

    Bra after surgery?

I’m an idiot and wore an underwire bra home. Big mistake! HUGE!!!
  22. I am 52 and I didn’t tell my mother until the morning of my surgery. I almost didn’t tell her at all, but figured just in case “something bad” happened that she should know. She surprised me and was supportive. 👍
  23. I woke up in recovery to whip off my oxygen mask and vomit. I then had MASSIVE heartburn (felt like I was having a heart attack). That first night - all night - I was dry heaving (and also peeing my pants) and the heartburn was so painful. Compared to that - my stomach and incisions didn’t hurt at all! I ended up having to stay 2 nights because I couldn’t keep anything down. But since day 5 - no nausea - no vomiting - no heartburn- and I feel great! 👍

    Why liquids only?

I had to do a 2 week pre-op diet but it was not liquids only. I could have 2 fruits a day plus 4oz lean protein and veggies (not potato or corn). I only had to do liquids the day before surgery. Every surgeon has there own instructions which seems odd to me. I also had protein shakes in the hospital but some people are on clear liquids for a week. It’s weird!

    Personal Rewards

I’m only 2 weeks out from surgery - but once I get low enough I want to go horseback riding. I haven’t been in 30 years because I’ve been too heavy (poor horse!). One of my goals is to be able to ride again!!
