  1. I’m so interested in this! I think it’s so bizarre but pretty cool! I’ve read tons of articles about possibilities of this happening, but I decided to come to the source and hear what changes have actually happened! Let’s hear any changes you’ve experienced after surgery! I’ve heard a lot of extra sensitive to sweets.. has anyone started to like seafood that didn’t before?
  2. I’m going to the store today to stock myself up on everything I’m going to need for after surgery! I thiiink I have everything I need for my pre-op diet. Now I’m going to the store to get: -SF jello mix (I found a way to make jello protein shots) -SF pudding mix -Broths -Apple sauce -Baby food -Gas-X -Miralax -Docusate -Crystal light(even though I already have a ton) -Small spoon and forks(someone suggested this) I’ve already got: -Tons of protein powder -2.5 ounce little cups -Small plates and bowls -Popsicle molds -Vitamins -Food scale Anything I’m missing?! I’ve been drowning myself in reading and finding anything I can online to help me be as prepared as I can be! Any advice or tips would be very appreciated!

My patient advocate is on vacation so I knew o wouldn’t be hearing back from her for a bit but coming home to that was such an amazing surprise!! I’ve had my date for a while but I didn’t wanna day anything until I knew I was approved by insurance!! June 10th here I come!!
  5. I have my date and when I start my liquid diet and I’m so excited and I know the basics.. but I was hoping I could get some of your must haves or anything that made post op a little easier or kept you sane. I know there’s broths and sugar free jello and popsicles.. but I just wanna hear what everyone else had or advice or any good recipes! I’m all ears! I have tons of protein powder, unjury protein in chicken broth flavor, a bought little 2.5 ounce cups with lids..
  6. Everyone who is post op- are there things that you wish you had known before you got the surgery, or side effects, or any information that you didn’t know about beforehand that you would like to share with everyone pre-op so they have a leg up?

    Must haves!

Wow!! Awesome info and advice! Really appreciate it everyone!! Thank you
  8. Hello everyone! Pre-op, post-op, any stage! What are some things you had to have? Anything that made life easier? Apps, Tupperware, recipes?
  9. Ahh! Yesterday I had my final weigh-in appointment, submitted all necessary documents and labs and did my little hospital stay presentation class. Now, they submit to my insurance and I wait! I’ve already scheduled my appointment with the surgeon and at that appointment we will schedule surgery. I can not believe I’m here already! Any advice? Or input? I’m so excited!
  10. I have my last follow up/weigh in appointment this week! I’m so so excited and the 7 months really flew by! But I do my psych eval and my last appointment on Thursday and I’ve already taken care of all other necessities like bloodwork, urine test, sleep study... so this should pretty much be it! So unreal. Just curious how anyone whose already been here- how long did it take and what was the process after this point? I believe I need to meet with the surgeon but I’m not sure what else. And how long did your insurance take to get back to the dr? Ahhh! So excited! And excited to hear everyone else’s experience! Thank you

    UNUM?

Has anyone used UNUM short term disability for their surgery? I have it and pay for it every month, but I’m not quite sure I can use it for WLS. I don’t want to ask my HR at work yet cause they are kind of jerks and I don’t want to give them extra time to research it haha. If anyone has any information or experience with this I would really appreciate it!

    UNUM?

Cheesefiend- thank you so much for your input! That is such a relief! I only have 5 days of PTO, but if I’m able to use UNUM I want to take two weeks off 😂
  13. So I just went in and met with the nutritionist and NP yesterday and went over a ton of stuff I’m actually getting excited and feeling like I’m IN the process! So I’ve got 4 more months for my insurance and when I went yesterday I got orders to do blood work which I know is standard. But the NP told me to get a sleep study and ordered that also. As of now my BMI is like 40.7 or something so I technically don’t need any comorbidities- which is good because I don’t have any. She told me to start practicing good habits and healthy lifestyle but that I actually can’t lose any weight leading up to surgery cause it would knock me out of the 40 BMI and then I would NEED 2 comorbidities. So I get that. But she said she wants me to do the sleep study “just in case” like as a back up to just help my case against insurance. The thing is, it’s going to cost me almost $2,000 and more importantly I don’t have sleep apnea.. I’ve never had it and I don’t want to pay $2,000 to do it in order to “help” my case- and then it turn out I don’t have it and wasted my time and a lot of money. I appreciate that she’s trying to help me and have me covered from all angles but I really don’t think this would be beneficial. Any thoughts, suggestions, experience? I would really appreciate it!

    Unnecessary sleep study?

Wow! Lots of good information! @notmyname @Bari_KS @2Bsmaller18 @GreenTealael Thank you so much for taking the time to respond! Lots of things I didn’t really think about. I will look into it further and email my consultant!
  15. Guys I’m meeting with my surgeon tomorrow! So excited to get this process started!! Anyways I made a little binder with papers that I need: insurance stuff, diet history, things like that. Any advice before I go? Questions to ask, things to bring, information I should be prepared with?
  16. Hello everyone! I’m just wondering if anyone started taking supplants and vitamins like at the very beginning stages? I have my first appointment scheduled with the surgeon but I was wondering if I should get a jump start on them now? I don’t know if it would be beneficial or help me out any. :)

    Supplements beforehand?

@jobber @MargoCL @Matt Z Thank you so much for your input! I think I’ll just keep on with my multi vitamin and wait to ask the surgeon!
  18. Hey I was just wondering what was required by everyone’s insurance as far as pre surgery monitoring for diet. I have read tons of things and most common that I’ve seen was 3 months and 6 months. I got some information sent to me from a the surgeons office that said my insurance requires 7 months.. this seemed weird to me because I feel like 7 months is a random number and I’m pretty positive I read that my insurance required 3 months. Just curious and wanting to see what other people’s experience was! Thanks! :)
  19. I know this is the very beginning, but I am so excited!! I just set my first appointment to meet with my surgeon, and I can’t believe it’s actually happening! I’m getting all my stuff together, paperwork and documentation to take with me but I was hoping to get some words of wisdom from anyone whose already been there and done that! I’ve got a long road ahead but at least the ball is rolling now! Yaaaay!

    Pre surgery monitored diet

Marly18 that’s awesome that you didn’t have it! And you’re right, I’m going to look into it more. Thank you!
  21. Hello! I’m brand new here.. been researching WLS surgery nonstop for a while and finally went to see my PCP yesterday and she was amazing and said she’s going to do whatever we need to do for this to happen for me. She said she was going to submit the request to my insurance and will get back to me. I’m just curious how everyone’s process went from start to finish? I have a general idea because I’ve been scouring these forums and other sites but I would love to hear from anyone! Thank you!
