Broke up with bf over this surgery.

I'm having a really hard time at home. The ex is in a CONSTANT mood. I simply asked how he was doing yesterday and he snapped at me. I sent him a long message while he was at work telling him he had to leave immediately instead of the planned few weeks I was giving him to save up. I told him I didn't need him for surgery or to help out, and that he just lives in my basement for free and is an ass. But then he got home this morning and was sullen and apologetic and then I always go back to "fine. if you can be nice, you can stay for a while longer." It's really easy for me to say what I need to when I am not facing him. He asked me if I "really" didn't want to be with him, and I told him that I didn't and he certainly didn't act like anyone interested in being in a relationship, either. It's just really dysfunctional and I can't overcome this cycle. My surgery is in 15 days and I really don't want to be dealing with a man-child's attitude during it. He has NO money, and I haven't been buying him any food, so there's nothing in my house he can even eat (it's all protein shakes, etc). It's just weird.
  2. I started pre-op today for surgery on 11/1, so I am right there with you! It's 3pm and I have one shake left I can have today. Gotta do this! I'm hungry, but I am taking sips of water constantly and it helps a bit. Chewing gum is also helpful... just don't swallow it. lol.
  3. I'm in West Virginia (WE ARE PART OF THE NORTH, DA-MIT). I'd quote that John Denver song, but everything he was singing about is mostly located in VA. Such a ripoff.

    Today marks 1 year!

    You look amazing!!!!

Was my surgery changed w/o me knowing?

They don't do gastric bypasses via endoscope. I would call, of course, but it's probably a generic term in this case.

    Impact Advanced Recovery

It says "FISH" in the lower lefthand corner!!! WTF!!! LOL!
  7. Just sharing my surgeon's pre/post op nutrition video: Obviously your pre-op diet will probably be different.... but lots of helpful information in here, I think.

    Mental health

Check out this short video from my surgeon's office. It's from the previous psych doc they had on staff (they have a new one now). It was required to watch it yesterday. It explains everything you may be experiencing regarding mental health and what's normal and what isn't : The post op stuff starts at 2:50.

    Fat Shaming

It's a strange thing because not too long ago in my memory, I was 150lbs lighter. I remember being that same person you describe... very judgmental. I wouldn't make fun of people to their face, except my mother who I would outright call fat and just be cruel to (I was a nasty teenager), but I would definitely sit and snicker with my friends. Now the tables are turned and I understand the struggle. People who have never experienced morbid obesity or the conditions or circumstances that got us this way can never understand. That being said, outside of the workplace, I will probably completely verbally snap on someone if I hear them making fun of someone who is overweight. After all of this, I don't think I'd have the restraint to say anything kindly.
  10. I can't have whey proteins, so I use soy and rice. The problem with pea protein is that it doesn't have the amino acids that whey protein has, so you HAVE to supplement with a vegan protein supplement if you rely on pea proteins. They sell the supplement on the Unjury website. Rice protein isolates are the only other proteins that have all the amino acids added in, as far as I could tell. When I *could* tolerate whey, my favorite ever was Nectar Fuzzy Navel. Oh lawd it was tasty. 365 Everyday Soy Unsweet Vanilla from Whole Foods tastes like cake batter. Nom nom.

    Anyone regretting this?

Yikes! When I had major full-body liposuction back in 2009, I blacked out in the shower about 3 times. Terrifying experience. Fortunately didn't injure myself - well, I couldn't really tell because my entire body was already covered in massive bruises.

    Anyone regretting this?

Please don't go long without getting in water. If you go to the ER they will give you IV electrolytes. My friend had bypass a few weeks ago and got dehydrated and they gave her 8 bags of fluids in the ER about 3 weeks out. Dehydration is really common, and dangerous. Nothing to mess around with - if they say go to the ER, go. And then once you are rehydrated, start sampling different waters. Try Mio or Crystal Light or the sugar-free Hawaiian Punch - it doesn't have to be straight plain water.

    Pre op Liquid Diet

I'm on basically the same - just started today. 2 protein shakes, 1 advanced recovery shake to boost immunity, and one healthy choice/atkins meal OR i can have a small portion of protein and vegetables instead. I'm just doing the frozen meals since it's easier.
  14. 800 calories on clear liquids is impossible?! There's no calories in pretty much any of that stuff. I am on protein shakes and one frozen meal and supposed to be around 800ish calories. And that's with actual food.

    Using celebrate vitamins-anyone else?

I am using the powdered Celebrate for pre-op and it is very tart. lol. It's raspberry lemonade flavored. I diluted it the full 8 ounces and it's still like a sour candy. I think I am going to switch to a chewable after my supply is out.

    Approval questions

Like Matt said re: the sleep apnea, it's really an insurance case-by-case basis. I have very mild sleep apnea that does not require a CPAP, but it's still a diagnosis of sleep apnea, so that counts as a comorbidity since it would be relieved with weight loss. Your surgeon should be able to tell you if that works for Aetna. And Aetna should also be able to tell you.
  17. Okay, this may be a stupid question... but if your stomach can only hold 2 oz immediately after surgery (bypass)... how are you supposed to take medicines? I take 5 pills that all have to be taken at night before bed (none of which I will ever be able to stop taking when I lose weight)... can I still take them all at once or is that too much at once to digest? This is coupled with the liquid multivitamin I will have to take at night, too. Which THAT says to mix with 4 oz of water. I'm confused. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

Unsupportive partners make me so angry!

I start my pre-op tomorrow. I recently broke up with my bf (like 3 weeks ago recently) of nearly 5 years for, well, many reasons, but one being that he started being an a-s and finally told me it was because he thought I'd leave him after I lost weight. My only other "support" is my mom, who is going to be there for the surgery, but she is completely against me having it. She considers it elective and tells me I am mutilating myself. SO, I am relying on basically just this forum as my real support system. We can do it all by ourselves! It's for us, ultimately, and no one else has any say.
  19. I just watched a required video course for my surgery and it said if I have any food intolerance (upset stomach, something sticking, etc) to go back to full liquid for 24 hours to allow everything to settle down. My post-op manual also says I should be on soft foods by week 3. 1 week liquid, 1 week puree, then soft foods, introducing one new food per day. Should be eating anything by 6 months.
  20. Here's another random question - since I am the master of those! Did anyone notice any dramatic changes in acne/skin clearing up after surgery? Did changing your diet habits have any positive effect on your skin? I get some cystic acne on my forehead (fortunately covered by bangs) and have tried every.single. topical treatment out there. I also get small white-head spots pretty frequently on my chin. I'm wondering how effective a change in diet has been to help with this kind of issue. I was considering scheduling yet another dermatologist appointment, but maybe I shouldn't bother if clear skin may be in my future?

    Acne and a New Diet

Yup. I've tried Differin. The only medicine I haven't tried is oral Accutane, which has extremely crazy side effects. I was even on antibiotics for 8 months to try to clear it up! Sometimes Retin A has helped, but as soon as it clears up, more just pop up, so it isn't preventative in any way. The cystic acne on my forehead is very painful!
  22. I am 2 years away from these surgeries, but already saving now because I don't expect insurance to cover it. How long were you out of work for??

    November Bypass?

Can you post the URL to it? It doesn't come up when I do a search.

    November Bypass?

Aw, that's going to be so awesome for you! My 30th birthday (what I consider my "becoming a real adult" birthday) is November 24th. I'll be spending it eating pureed cottage cheese, while my family is out at a Thanksgiving banquet. lmao! BUT, this is a good early birthday present to myself.

    November Bypass?

All of this. I have a HUGE tote of heels I wore just 8-9 years ago when I was 140lbs. Soon...soon... I hate my body much less now than I did back then; something that started all the weight gain. I look back at those pics and I'm like WTF WAS WRONG WITH YOU. Fat at 140lbs?! Way to go, me. lol. I can't wait for my appearance to match my give no effs attitude that I've developed. First thing I do when I hit a size 12 is drop serious $$$ at Express and White House Black Market. And everywhere. Everywherreeeeee. hahaha.
