    Multivitamins

Celebrate makes a powder that comes in two different flavors that you take twice a day. Tastes decent. I take Opurity by Unjury now, though, which is a good tasting chewable and only once a day.

    Nexium vs. Prilosec

But for what it's worth, I liked Nexium better than Prilosec, but my insurance stopped covering Nexium for whatever stupid reason. But, like I said, I didn't have an ulcer beforehand and it still happened. I don't think taking anything pre-op will stop it from happening if you're going to end up getting one. It's not that common, though. Like up to 16% of patients get one. If you think you already have one, they will probably do an endoscopy beforehand to check and wait until it is healed to do the surgery; I don't know. I feel like you would KNOW if you had one, though. Mine is VERY VERY obviously there.

    Nexium vs. Prilosec

I was pulled off my Prilosec before surgery because all Prilosec is delayed release and you can no longer have delayed release pills post-op. I have an ulcer now (as you may have read), and they treat it with Pepcid and Carafate. You can't take antacids (like Tums) with Carafate. I didn't have an ulcer before surgery - it just happened. Nothing anyone can do about it. I took Pepcid the night before surgery, as well.

    Under 30 Bypass Crew

=p I forgot I made this post and didn't get notifications! Ugh! I had my bypass on the 1st! Developed an ulcer so dealing with that, but I'm doing alright. 22lbs down! My 30th birthday is this Saturday so I'm going to age myself out of my own thread! lol!
  7. Yay! I have a marginal ulcer! "Fortunately" the surgeon said it looks like it's already healing over... although it sure doesn't feel that way. I am on puree only for 2-4 more weeks (I had made it to soft foods). I am 19 days out. I knew I wasn't crazy! It hurts soooo bad swallowing, but the Carafate is amazing. On it for 30 days and Pepcid 40mg for 3 months. Surgeon says I probably got an ulcer because I am a former smoker. Smoking is bad, kids. To anyone pre-op or considering RNY... quit now. Just in case. I quit a year ago, but probably had about 3 packs over the last year while socializing, and 2 cigs within a month of surgery. So I guess I never TOTALLY quit. But I am not an "active smoker". And sure as hell haven't and will not touch a cigarette again since post-op. Not 100% if that's what caused it, but not worth it. It hurts like a mofo. And almost killed me from deterring me from drinking. Anyways, speed bump but not unmanageable. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. I read that usually if you get an ulcer right away, it's typically stomach acid and not from being a smoker. Which makes sense because I had badddd reflux beforehand. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app
  9. I am just staring at that staple in the lower left corner wondering if it is supposed to stick out so much. Won't something snag on it?? lol! Best not to think too hard on these things... Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app
  10. Also check out the sweet staples. We're like Robocop. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

    2 weeks out complications... ulcers.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to be negative. It is very hard to stay optimistic when you're suffering. I can't stand for more than 5 min at a time and I can't eat. I feel so much less healthy than I did preop. I'm tired of feeling sick, and I know I probably have months before this thing heals. It's daunting and scary. Birth control pills post op

I was not told anything about birth control pills... only to not take them until a week postop and to use secondary methods for a few months because you're hyperfertile. I have Mirena, however. I highly recommend it. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

    still have high cholesterol

Your cholesterol could be familial. When I was 130lbs, my cholesterol was in the 300s. When I was 280lbs... still in the 300s. I don't expect it to change at all. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app
  14. My only support system is this forum and a FB group. My mother is adamantly against this surgery (which I recently went through with) and my now ex bf wasnt understanding. I kicked him out last week, one week postop, yay. I live alone. It's me, myself, and I. And I've had complications, so I am coping alone. It is what it is. Didn't do this for anyone but me so... I don't need anyone else but me. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

    2 weeks out complications... ulcers.

Just an update... the Carafate helps me swallow things for about 1 to 2 hours before it wears off. However, today I've started dry heaving and partially regurgitating all liquids except water. I knew ulcers were a risk, but they are rare. I rolled the dice and lost. Had I known, I would not have had this surgery. I really can't describe the pain and nausea. It is unlike anything. And constant, except for when I take the Carafate... but now I can't keep stuff down. I've read these can take months to heal... I hope that isn't the case with mine. Honestly, the weight loss is not worth this. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app
  16. I was just "tentatively" diagnosed with an ulcer. I am only 15 days from surgery. It is right where my esophagus meets my new stomach. I am utterly miserable. Endoscopy Monday... I am on Pepcid and Carafate, but today I also started vomiting everything I tried to eat, except water. Had I suspected I would be one of the few to get this, I would have never had the surgery. Took my chances and lost. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

    2 weeks out complications... ulcers.

I probably don't need the endoscopy but better safe than sorry. Plus, I've already hit my out of pocket max for the year so it'll be free. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

    2 weeks out complications... ulcers.

I thought I was going crazy or overreacting to "normal" healing pain. I am glad I harassed the crap out of then, lol. They normally don't do followups with the surgeon themselves... just the bariatric nurses. But I was like SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT HERE. lol. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

    2 weeks out complications... ulcers.

I have literally only taken one dose of Carafate and can already feel a difference. It immediately coated my esophagus and I am drinking my first protein shake in over a week with minimal pain. Holy crap. I could cry. lol. He said it would help first dose, but I rightfully was skeptical. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

What’s the skinny on “excessively malodorous flatulence”?

I had surgery 15 days ago and barely had any gas at all. Virtually none. And neither it, nor my poos, have any odor. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app
  21. I went to the Start Clinic today to do my final pre-op stuff before surgery next week and they tested me for a urinary tract infection, saying they don't do surgery if you have one. Well, turns out I have one... but my surgeon sent me a note saying "it's not of immediate concern" and we will discuss it at my next appointment... which is next week, the day before my surgery. they didn't give me any antibiotics for it, either. do they give you antibiotics after surgery? is that why they are holding off, maybe, because whatever they'll give me will help the UTI, too? a little concerned... surgery next Thursday. 22. Welp. Today I drank 26oz in 30 minutes, which was apparently a grave error... as it came out the other end 10 min later without warning. So, yes, I can drink now... But apparently I need to pace myself. lol. Ughhhh. As far as protein, I am just following my handbook exactly and not specifically counting. They said not to worry about meeting protein goals for several weeks and to just follow the book. I am probably 2/3 of the way there anyways with what they have me eating. I had a mini mental breakdown last night over Taco Bell. The ex moved out yesterday and it was contentious and now I am totally alone, but started reading Never Binge Again during said breakdown, and it made me feel a lot better. 23. Hey all. I am 8 days out and lost 12lbs the first 4 days, nothing the last 3, and gained a pound this morning. I've lost 12lbs in a week before on low carb diets. When do you really start noticing it drop, typically? Like when in your process did you think "hey, it's actually working?" Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app
  24. I am the most impatient person in the world. I told my friend this morning that I'll be the first person ever to not lose weight from gastric bypass and that medical science will have failed me. lol. Can I just wake up and be down 40lbs already? Yep. It's going to be a looonnngg road for me. lol Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app
  25. Just wanted to update. This morning I woke up and just filled up a giant Slurpee cup from the tap with hot water. It's been an hour and I've had 39 ounces!! I had my first meal and it was filling for once! You seriously never appreciate the power of what water can do when you're drinking 100 oz a day... until you suddenly drop to... 10 a day. Feeling much better already. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app
