    February 2019 weight loss buds

Hey everyone! Just wanted to give an update. My surgery was yesterday at 730am. I was discharged home at 930 this morning. I have 6 incisions. The 2 on the left are bruised. This bruising is causing pain when I have to turn on my side to get up. I am sore today, not really pain. I haven’t had any nausea. Today I stayed indoors and just did my walking in the house. Tomorrow I plan to get out and walk my neighborhood if the rain holds out. I do have pain in my left shoulder. I’m guessing from the gasses they fill you abdominal cavity with. It’s so strange because I would swear it’s muscle pain from sleeping wrong. I can pinpoint muscles that are hurting. The heating pad helps a lot. I go to full liquids tomorrow. I’ve already made pudding and put it in the fridge. I also have several cream soups and a good strainer. So far so good. I plan to weigh tomorrow. I know I gained weight from the fluids in the hospital. Each liter bag is 2.2 pounds and I got at least 3. Good luck to everyone still waiting for their date to come!

I’m back home now. Doing very good. Today I feel sore. Some of the incisions sting. I’m moving without any problems.

Oh, I was premedicated for pain. I got neurontin and Celebrex before the surgery. I’m due for neurontin and Tylenol at 8.

I didn’t have to have anything as major as a barium swallow. All I had to do was drink 1oz of water every 20 min x 5. If no nausea or pain I could advance. My stomach doesn’t hurt at all. Little pain in my shoulders from the gas but only ranks a 3 on 1-10 scale. I ordered jello but it hasn’t arrived yet.

Finally in a room. Surgery went well. I passed my drinking test so I can advance to clear liquids. They won’t let me have broth for some reason, just jello. I hate jello.

I know all the feb 5th people are getting excited! I just have to throw a couple things in my bag in the morning. I have my chlorhexadine wash for tonight and in the morning. I have to drink the apple juice tonight and in the morning then off to surgery. Getting super real!

Have you asked your surgeon if he will allow you to go home in an Uber? I’ve been a nurse for 20 years and we were never allowed to send someone home after surgery in a cab. It had to be someone who could be responsible for the patient in an emergency.

    Liquid diet

That may be low blood sugar. I had a few episodes in the beginning of my pre op diet. Do you take BP meds? If so start watching you blood pressure. It may be dropping low. I’m assuming you aren’t diabetic because the surgeon would have put you on a modified diet.

Is the vertigo with position changes? Like turning your head or turning over in bed?

Tonya Why would they keep you in the hospital so long? I have heard of band to bypass staying a few days.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

I had my final pre op appointment on Wednesday. Surgery is just 4 days away! The night before surgery I have to drink 30oz of either apple or grape juice or regular Gatorade. I have to do another 15 oz over 10 minutes 2-3 hours before surgery. This is to help the body regulate blood sugar better and not have highs and lows while the body is dealing with the surgical trauma. I also got a bottle of chlorhexadine to bathe with the night before and morning of surgery. Cuz you know, infection is no bueno! I already have my vitamins in my big ole dispenser. I have my liquids for after surgery. I think I’m ready.

Fun Containers to Drink Broth From?

I have some Swanson and some herbox (that’s the green packets hospitals have). I haven’t been drinking any broth or eating jello or popsicles since the first couple of days. I’ve been doing my proteins and water or tea.

Fun Containers to Drink Broth From?

I think I mentioned this on our February weight loss buddies thread. The Unjury chicken soup flavor is basically broth but with 20g of protein. It has no gross whey taste. It tastes much better than the broth I was drinking. I can not recommend this enough!!! It has been my life saver during the pre op diet because of the disgusting when taste so many protein drinks have. Go to Unjury’s website. There is a number you can call if you want an expedited order.

I was told no on fruit bars. Popsicle also makes sugar free tropical flavors
  16. Take it at bedtime. Usually it will work over night and you will go in the morning. Also, may get some discomfort from the bowel stimulation. Easier to deal with discomfort if you sleep through it.

Definite no on the chocolate milk-too much sugar. Honestly I find the Unjury chicken broth tastes better than any other broth I have tried.
  18. My RNY is scheduled for feb 5. I have back to back cruises scheduled in June so I’ve been saving money for new clothes. I started thinking that I am going to just buy the minimum for the cruises and continue to save for a reward wardrobe later. My reward for reaching my goal is going to be an appt with a personal stylist at Nordstrom’s. I’m still working on coming up with rewards for smaller goals. My goal is to lose 135 pounds. I was thinking rewards at 50 & 100 pounds lost then goal reward. Any suggestions?

I heard it’s good to have a stool softener at home for when you need it. I would also say broth and cream soups for post op diet. Oh, and a strainer. We are on the same day! When do you start your pre op diet?

Crap. I forgot about that. Definitely going to need bras. I never had boobs until I got fat. I’m guessing they are going to disappear along with the fat. Oh well....worth it

Girl I have banned myself from jewelry stores. I went on a little jewelry buying bender in October 😁. But this is a fabulous idea for 100 pounds!!! I can definitely get a few sizes out of tops. I like the clearance rack at dressbarn for when I have to buy slacks for work. Dresses are my favorite for vacation. I’m not sure if I will need to buy new bathing suits yet.

You are right. I’m going to be able to closet shop for a while. My cruises will be just 4 months after my surgery. I have no clue where my weight could possibly be by then. I see people on here that are 4 months out range from 30-80 pounds lost. I hope I’m one that loses easily but things never seem to work out easily for me.

Good luck tomorrow! The first day was definitely the hardest. Day 2 was significantly better. I did have to swig some pickle juice in the beginning to combat a severe headache at one point. No headaches after day 2. The first few days I would take naps when I got home. Sleeping through some of it helped. I do not recommend my Saturday activity of watching Diners, drive ins, and dives. I swear I could smell food cooking in my house (I live alone no cooking going on at all). Don’t forget to get measurements weight and photos!!!

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Hey my February surgery friends! I’m somehow surviving my liquid pre op diet. Today is Sunday and I’m down 10 pounds since Monday! I know the weight loss will be slower next week, but I really hope to get another 5 pounds off.
