Hi Tamika! Your story sounds very familiar. My dr. has recommended gastric bypass for me since I struggle so much with acid reflux. I am excited to get back on track and feel healthy.

Hi guys!! I’m Tamika 37 living in DMV area. I am having the gastric sleeve surgery. I’ve also struggled majority of my life with weight and have lost some over the years but every regain seems to double the loss. I have had thoughts of doing this surgery for a while but honestly shied away because the lap band was mostly the only option at the time but I didn’t want to take the risk. Once I learned of the sleeve I started researching it and finally taking The steps to start the process. I have been working really hard to live a healthier lifestyle but progress always seems little to none so I’m hopeful this tool will help me to finally achieve my goals.

Nice to meet you, too. Lab band is horrible. It makes me sad to see that drs are still putting them in patients in some parts of the country. You can’t find any dr around here who will do it. I think it gives people a false sense of safety because it is less evasive, but that is not necessarily true. Not to mention the quality of life. Anyway, on to better things! We will both be successful. 🙂

I am 46, live in WI. I also originally had the lapband and actually lost a lot of weight. I was down to 135 at one point. I had to have it removed almost 3 years ago due to complications and have almost gained all of my weight back. I will say, having it removed felt really great after having it for over 10 years.

I can't believe it. I just found out I am approved! It is on Cigna's website. I'll feel better once I speak to my surgeon's office, but this is amazing news.

I think yours makes more sense to me than mine did lol. I had a clear liquid diet, all clear fruit juices unlimited. Therefore, lots of carbs. I followed it, lost weight but the jury is still out to why my surgeon preferred that diet. Everything turned out fine in the end. Surgery was fast and successful. But as cellbell said low carb is what shrinks the liver is what I have always read.

There’s a lot of variations in the pre surgery diets. Mine was real food too - specifically Keto. So I ate meat, eggs, full fat dairy, low carbs, non starchy vegetables & berries. Yours sounds like it may be keto or similar to keto too.
My surgeon requires different patients to follow different pre surgery diets based on various factors - weight, blood work, results from various medical tests, etc. Sometimes the diet is not only to reduce the fat around your liver, but to lose some weight before surgery, break some addictions/cravings (caffeine, sugar, carbs, etc.) & /or get you thinking about what you eat.
Best advice is to follow the plan you’ve been given.
