    Re-sleeve

Hi, I’ve been resleeved! I had my first sleeve in the UK in 2018. First couple of months I lost weight dramatically but I was always hungry (from the second day post op!!!) to the point I felt sick, no matter how often I drank. I could also eat a lot more/not feel my restriction as quick as others seemed to despite how slow I ate. Needless to say I stabilised after just 6 months and then Covid hit and I started regaining when I wasn’t able to be as active/go to the gym. I went to Turkey last year and got a resleeve. The surgeon said that the top of my sleeve was much bigger than it should have been, part may possibly have been from me restretching it but he said the top part was large and looked like not all of my hunger hormone producing part of the stomach had been removed. He removed all the excess including my hunger hormone and made my stomach nice and small again. Results have been amazing, I’m 8 months post op, still losing although obviously slowing as I approach goal weight and I can still only eat a few mouthfuls!! My experience with my resleeve is very different, I got horrific gas pain post op for a start which I didn’t get the first time (but normal and not uncommon, just walk walk walk). If I eat too quickly I will vomit/get pain, again another normal side effect they tell you about but I didn’t experience any of it first time round. I’m so pleased I went for my resleeve even though I was worried about going abroad, it’s been the best decision I ever made! :-)

    First few weeks post op

We're all different and will heal at our own pace but still having gas pains and soreness is quite normally at 2 days post op. Keep walking and taking your pain medication as and when you need it 😊 Peppermint tea is supposed to be good for helping with gas. I went back to work after 4 weeks but I have a fairly active job. Just be aware that your energy levels may drop and it's completely different sitting at a desk at work needing to concerntrate compared to sitting at home relaxing. All I can suggest is to see how you feel, but if you're still sore and on pain meds I wouldn't recommend it. Just keep sipping little and often, it feels impossible to get fluids in during the early days. I was so worried about dehydration etc but you will get better each day. x

How long did you cover your incisions?

I was told to cover mine until they were scabbed and dry, so removed mine around 5 days post op. If your incisions are not healed then I'd keep them covered, the last thing you want is any germs getting in there. Hopefully your surgeon can offer you some advice soon x

    Super dry skin

I'm so glad somebody else has posted about this because I wasn't sure if I was imagining it. I'm 3 1/2 weeks post op and my skin has been SUPER dry since my surgery. I've had to start moisturising daily as it's visibly dry and sometimes I look like I've got very mild sunburn about to peel. I also seem to have developed REALLY itchy legs since surgery too.

    VSG Abroad - your experiences?

I had mine done on the NHS (Sunderland) so I can't comment on oversea's but from what I've read so long as you do your research etc and ensure they have good reviews and reputation then you should be safe. I know of people who have had them done abroad and their GP has supported them in the after care as well as taking required blood samples etc prior to the Surgery. So I think the main concern is just doing your research well and making sure that the Clinic you are choosing is safe and of a high standard 😀
  6. Hi everyone I've been lurking these boards for quite some time pre op and found you all to be very useful in keeping me motivated so I thought I'd finally throw myself in and start posting. I'm from the UK, England and was sleeved on the 28th December so I'm almost 2 weeks into my post op journey. I was on the milk diet for Christmas day so I've figured if I managed that then I can manage any day. Things are going well and I seem to have had a super fast, pain free recovery compared to some from what I've read on here. (Sorry if anybody is going through a difficult recovery and is reading this - I don't mean to rub it in!) I'm looking forward to getting off of puree food now though, the texture just isn't doing it for me! x

How long did you take before going back to work?

I'm 2 weeks post op and have a further 2 weeks off work. Then it's a phased return over 4 weeks. I do have quite a strenuous job though and involves a lot of moving and handling of people and very long shifts. I feel fantastic in myself, but my energy levels can dip and I'm napping at least once a day. I think it's entirely individual though as people feel differently. If I had a desk job and didn't need to be on my feet all day, I recon I would have personally been able to go back after 2 weeks. x

Hello from a newly sleeved newbie!

Ah bless you, take it easy and keep to your own pace! How long do they recommend you're on purees for? As I know different surgeon's seem to have different guidelines. I'm supposed to be 4 weeks puree with no lumps (Have completed 2) then 2 weeks soft/mashable. I've read of others who have had to remain on puree for longer though as they have found it too uncomfortable eating soft. Similarly others have advanced early, so you'll get there eventually at your own pace! x
