  1. Hello everyone. This is just a few thoughts I have almost 1 1/2 years post op. This was the best decision I could of made for myself. Granted I am still not at my goal weight. However I have not gained any back and I know if I want to get to my goal I will need to put a little more effort into it again. Which mostly is just getting back to the basics of what we are told to do right from the beginning, Eat healthy, and get your butt moving. lol I know several others who have had this surgery some are a complete success others have failed and are gaining weight rapidly back. Some have taken their tool/ gift and have used it wonderfully and are healthy and happy and continue to follow the rules they were given and agreed to follow. Their hard work shows how much they appreciate what they have been given. Others I know have snubbed the rules, they drink soda, eat chocolate by the bag, I watched one friend sit and eat an entire bag of Cheetos then say "I don't know why I'm gaining weight". She was not happy when I said " because you just ate entire bag of Cheetos and washed it down with a soda" This surgery is a tool we have been fortunate enough to have. Just like any tool if you abuse it or use it other then what it is designed for. Its not going to work!! So this week I started counting my calories again. I learned early my calorie threshold for consistent healthy weight lose was 900 calories per day. Most people are higher but unfortunately mine is not. And really if you think about it 900 is easy, especially because my pouch is small. I have not stretched it out. And I have lost 3lbs this week, so GOAL WEIGHT I'm coming for you!!!!

What I have learned over 1 1/2 years.

At about 8 months in the weight loss seemed to go on hold. So that is when he suggested I count calories and it worked for me.

What I have learned over 1 1/2 years.

I have a health app on my phone. It has every food possible and amount. 1/2 cup, 1 cup etc. I punch in everything that goes into my mouth on this app. It keeps a running daily total. My doctor told me to start keeping track of my calorie intake. So I did he told me to start at 1300 calories so I did 1300 for a week didn't lose. So I went down to 1200 for a week. I kept going each week until 900 calories. 900 seemed to be my sweet spot.

    Alcohol

Nothing with bubbles. No soda mixed drink or beer. My personal drink to sip on is vodka and peach schnapps on the rocks. I sip very slowly. You do have to be careful we are lightweights now.

    Oh 💩

My Dr said yellow, clay color is normal. He also said consistency varies among people. When I eat kale it turns really green. If I eat something a little fatty it appears greasy/oily.

    Any regrets with RNY?

They didn't stay away from Soda. Once they healed they were right back to it. I have eyes they are definitely gaining it back. Maybe they stretched their pouch.

    Any regrets with RNY?

I work with someone who had the sleeve, they are gaining their weigh back after a year and a half. I am 6 months out and have absolutely no regrets with my RNY. To have long tern success you have to follow the rules. Also from my own research the RNY has much better long term results.

    Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)

The surgeon who did my proceedure put me on shots to thin my blood as soon as I came out of surgery. I had to inject myself twice a day for 2 weeks. He said it was standard proceedure. I guess it is not according to your story I'm sorry this happened to you. All the best through your journey from here forth.

what's the worse things about bypass

I also had a lap band years ago. It did not work at all. I had it removed just 2 years after it was put in. I had RNY bypass In Sept 2018. I am down about 60 lbs and I don't regret any of it at all. I feel great. My husband feels like he has his wife back. My weight was killing me I could do almost nothing. I was exhausted, depressed and hated myself. Things are so much better
  15. I am hypoglycemic. But I have found that if I keep sipping on my protien shake I never have a problem with my blood sugar slipping to low. I do not take insulin but My sister does. She adjusts her dose according to her readings. She finds that her sugar does not jump to a high level anymore because after RNY sugar and sugary foods are a huge NO. NO. And we are taught to get our proteins in first If you keep your sugars at an even level using consistent protein shake/ protien liquid intake you will be fine. In the beginning you may may have to check your blood sugar levels often, but keep sipping that protien any liquid ( accept caffeinated drinks) goes toward your daily liquid intake.

    Feet Swelling- Gout

I learned after a surgery years ago that anesthesia can cause gout. The only time I ever had gout was after that surgery. It can be helped by drinking more water to help clear the uric acid from your from your body. I mean a lot of water. I have read drinking a tablespoon of Pure Apple Cider vinegar a couple times a day every day helps to break up the crystals in the joints that cause the extreme pain. I hope you get relief soon. Gout is the worst debilitating pain ever.
  17. Ok so I know a lot of you don't weigh yourselves more then once a week. I usually weight myself about 3 times a week. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I am actually losing weight ☺️ So I weighed myself on Friday I weighed the same as I had 2 days before 201... Today I got on the scale just knowing I must of gained after having stuff I should not of had at a party last night. Hey it is the season to celebrate. To my astonishment the scale read 197 whoooohooooo. I have not seen anything under 200 in years. I did a happy dance in the bathroom. I am so happy I took this journey. I'm getting my life back.

    RNY 12/17 Over inflated

I had the same problem. It was terrible. In the hospital the Surgeon order a suppository for me. It did help. I was also told to lay on my left side as much as tolerable. It is the path of least resistance for the gas to escape. I also took a dissolvable gas pill several times a day they tasted like mint so it was a treat It does get better, this too shall pass Literally.
  19. I can't say that I felt regret. What I did feel was loss, I could not go to my best friend and comforter, food for help anymore for my emotional distress. The first few weeks were the hardest. I also have only told my immediate family. Even thought gastric bypass is more common in the united States there is still a stigma, or people who are quick to judge. I have lived a clean life I rarely drink, I only tried to smoking once, but I found myself addicted to food. I had severe high blood pressure, non alcoholic fatty liver, with cirrhosis of the liver. I was to the point that if I did not do something I was going to die. Some people will look and say but you really were not that big. The problem was my organs were not able to function properly. I was killing myself. Fast forward to today 3 months post op. I feel really good. I am totally off my high blood pressure pill/ water pill. My blood sugar is perfect. I can do more then I have been able to do in years. I have no doubt I will live to see all of my kids get married now, because my liver enzymes are also normal. I still have about 60 pounds to go to my personal goal weight. So what started as what you might call regret I now see as the best thing I could of done for myself and my family. Once you see results and you start to look great in clothing and people start to notice and compliment you, these are the things you will start to be addicted to. It will make you try a little harder to walk that extra mile, or lift weights just a little longer. Let the feel good affects replace the food that is killing us. It does get better, use your tool that you chose to get to give you freedom. Think of it as a gift you have given yourself instead of self mutilation. You have chosen life, give yourself at least a couple months before deciding you made the wrong decision. Think about what you have to look forward to. I am 100% positive you will look back and say. "Man those first few weeks were tough but look at me know I'm living I'm happy,Healthy and a Hottie" All the best ((((((((((HUGS)))))))))

    What is the Norm?

I know everyone is different. But I would like to compare. I had RNY on Sept 24. I lost 9lbs the first week, 3.4lbs the 2nd week and 3.2lbs the 3rd week. Someone I work with had RNY 6 days before me he lost 35lbs the first week. I haven't asked him what he has lost since. I don't want to get down on myself because of it. I know he was somewhere in the 350-400lb range. So of course he will lose more but what is the norm for everyone? Is 3lbs a week average? So please everyone send me your stats.
  22. I took a comfy pair of slippers to walk around in, so I would not have to wear those stupid looking uncomfortable no-slip socks they give you. I also took a comfy pair of Jammies suitable to be seen walking the hospital halls in of course. Bring shampoo I forgot to, they do want you to get up and shower the next day. I did pack a new toothbrush and toothpaste. Pack whatever you think you might need. Better to have it and not need it. All the best to you!!!!

    September bypass buddies??

Absolutely at times it is awful. I have noticed though that when I started taking a chewable B12 supplement at night before bed it was not as bad the next day. B12 is vital for your body it helps with energy on the cellular level and we usually get it from eating meats.

    September bypass buddies??

I'm following the rules set out by my Dr. They state in week 2 that I can introduce low-fat cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, runny oatmeal and mashed potatoes. However his rules state I can only have 2 teaspoons over 20 minutes as the week progresses I can slowly advance to 2 tablespoons over 20 minutes. I believe they do not want to stress or cause damage to my pouch.

    September bypass buddies??

I'm not allowed eggs yet at all. What has been added to my list is Greek yogurt without chunks of fruit, low fat cottage cheese watery oatmeal and mashed potatoes. All of these go down just fine no problems. Of course I can only have 2 teaspoons of them for now.
