People with hernias... I have a question :o)
just1more replied to 🅺🅸🅼🅼🅸🅴🅺's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had a hiatal hernia and didnt know it until I went in for surgery. My dr fixed it. I had an upper GI, now unless the dr didnt tell me at the time of the upper GI that I had one, I'm assuming he didnt know until I went in for the surgery. On the day of the surgery my dr told me it would only be a half hour, an hour and a half later I came out of surgery. I'm thinking he didnt know. I had acid reflux before the surgery but was always told "If you lose the weight the acid reflux will go away." I have not had acid reflux since my surgery. Tina -
Has anyone had any weird perks of having started losing weight?
just1more replied to nesser081982's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told no soda, ever. I can have coffee (caffeine) three months after my surgery. Tina -
I have to do it for 4 weeks. Its going to be a very long 4 weeks! My Dr says that 4 weeks will give my stomic time to form a scar under my band which will help keep it from sliping. Sounds good to me. Tina

Puterlady, I use Daily Plate to track my food intake. Love it, its free and easy. Tina

I can laugh with you Boos02. I think we got banded on the same day, the 21th. I was on liquids for four days and now solid liquids for four weeks. I've been dreaming about eating food. Every thing from black olives to chicken alfrado. I've been doing good making meals for my family but dont ask me to sit with them. I just want to lick their plates when they are done. Just alittle taste. Nope, I'm a good girl. Great choice! Congrates on your will power. Tina

If I knew then, what I know now...

have bought a higher protein power. My dr recommends beneprotein which is 6g per scoop. I started my shakes, it takes me two hours to drink 8oz. I have to have three shakes a day to get my protein in. I feel full and uncomfortable all the time. Plus I'm having a hard time gettin in my water. I am six days post op. -
Simply Smart Milk has 10g of protein in 8oz. I mix my protein powers with the milk and Carnation no sugar add breakfest drink. For me it adds up to 10g milk, 7g carnation drink, and 12g beneprotein (2 scoops). That comes to 29g of protein. I am curently looking for a higher protein power. But this is what is getting me threw for now.

How much are you eating one week post-op??

"GNC sells New Whey liquid. I buy the 42g ones. It is only 3 oz of liquid, so if you drink that you are almost done for the day. They have a tart taste, but since it is only 3 oz. it is easy to drink. Some people also mix it with sugar free punch. You may want to give it a try! Good Luck! " Thank you so much for that info. I bought some unjury on line but when I'm feeling up to the long trip I will definetly go to GNC and look into that! Tina -

If I have an 8oz protein shake it takes me 2 hours to drink it. I feel over stuffed. I had to drop it to 4 oz. Before I was getting enough protein in and not enough water (thats including the milk in my shakes) now I'm getting my water in and not enough protein. I just cant stand that over full feeling I get. Its so uncomfortable! I'm going to look for a higher protein power maybe that will help. I am 6 days post op. -
those silly stocking they sent home...
just1more posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
to prevent blood clots. Well I was told to wear them every day for two weeks. Its been three days and they are cutting into my legs and rubbing my skin off. Did anyone wear these and for how long? thoughts on preventing the rubbing? Tina -

I had heparin shots every eight hours in the hospital. I did ask my dr if I "had" to wear them. He told me yes unless I could walk a mile in one shot, no breaks, before I left the hospital. I wasnt up for it. What scares me is when I lay down I get a prickely feeling in my right thigh. I guess I'll suck it up and try the baby power. My dr did tell me it was to prevent blood clots which I dont want. -
good luck to all going in tomarrow. boos02, clayverde, gpanderson(and dad). My surgery is for 7:30. I have to be at the hospital at 6, we need to leave the house by 5. ((sigh)), long day ahead. I'm getting more nervous by the minute. Tina

I am getting banded on the 21st, Monday. I put my name on the "day by day line up list" thread. I noticed there is also a list going on "whos getting banded in July" thread. I 'm just a little confused as to where I need to go. Tina, a.k.a just1more

My favorite line..."Oh, I wouldnt want do that! Wouldnt you rather do it naturally?" I didnt ask you to do it and I'm not doing it for you! I'm doing it for me and I've been trying for 12 years to do it "naturally" it hasnt worked! enough said. This is why I dont tell anyone.

I'm down to two pairs of shorts and my bathing suit is falling apart. I refuse to buy any new cloths. As for Lane Bryant, I cant go near the store...I'll want to buy something but why bother? Just like you said. It wont fit in a month why bother. Isnt it great that we can say that with a smile. Tina being banded on monday

Hi my name is Tina. I live in Connecticut. I am getting the band on the 21st. I've been married for almost 11 years, have a beautiful 9, ( going on 19 ) year old daughter. I'm a school bus driver, love to take care of my flower garden, quilt, and scrapbook. There is so much more, to much to list. I didnt realy gain weight until I met my husband. Probably because he loved me for me, not what I looked like:thumbup:. Other boyfriends always harped about my size, quite frankly I didnt think a 12 was big. Once we fell in love I gained and it just keep comming on. Up and down it went.In April I weighed in at 293 and nearly fell out of the chair when my dr told me. Now its time to live for me, so here I am. Tina

I lost my required 10 pounds two weeks ago, actualy I lost 14, I think I gained about 5 back. I am very scared that I'm going to go for the surgery and the Dr is going to turn me away because I gained again. (He has done this to others) I am not on a pre-surgery diet. Thoughts, anyone. What are you doing to keep the weight off before the surgery if you had to lose weight? I know mentaly, for me, I am eating because I'm afraid I'm going to be missing something after the surgery. You know the thought..."I better eat this cause I'll never be able to have that again." HELP, I'm sabotaging myself!

I have a few reasons, one is my mom. Her and I weight the same. My mom is 60 years old has bad knees, hips, diabetes, and a bad heart since birth. She has used a cane on and off for the last year and I look at her and even though I love her to death, I dont want to be like her. 60 is just not old! She cant keep up with any of us. If we go anywhere she is sitting on the nearest bench waiting for us. I dont want to wait! I'm tired of sitting on the sidelines. I also wont to be able to keep up with my husband and 9 year old daughter. They are both very active with their lives. I would like to be apart of the activity. And last but certainly not least...my job. I'm a school bus driver and I have this fear that if something were to happen I would not be able to get my students of that bus. God knows there would be no way I could fit through the emergancy hatch, the emergancy door yes, the hatch, no way! How would I rescue the kids if I cant even rescue myself? If something were to happen to one of those kids because I couldnt get my big ol' butt were it was supose to go, I could not live with my self. There are many other reason, these were the top three.

I bounce back and forth so much I'm making my self dizzy. Do I have the surgery or dont I? I'm at my last step. I saw the dietitian 3 weeks ago, she put me on a 1500 cal diet. I asked her if I came back and lost the 10 that I needed to lose would I be sent for approval. She said yes. Now heres the thing. I did realy good on this diet and I think to my self," I can do this on my own!", then I think "no I cant!" I know my self well enough to know that I could do realy well for 3,4,8 weeks then throw it all out the window. Every side efect, every negative out come is running threw my head. I want so much to "do it" on my own but just know I cant. Have any of you gone threw this? Is this a normal stage? Tina
-
if you could do that yourself, would you be this size?" wow you just slapped me in the forehead. that one quote puts it all in prospective for me. I guess I'm getting nervous. I went to my appointment, I lost 10 pounds, 14 altogether, and she is sending it to my dr for his finial approval. Thank you!

Hello, I'm Tina. I've been lurking on LBT, have posted a few times but have not officialy outted myself...until now. I live in CT. My dr is Dr Aranow in middletown. I dont have a surgery date yet but I'm hoping to have the band done at the end of June. I go for my pysc eval on wed . I'm taking a deep breath and hope it all goes well. I saw my Dr last month and he told me to lose 10# before my surgery. I have lost 8 and now Im at a stand still. I am craving a frappuccino real bad. I think perhaps if I allowed myself one the craving will go away. My BFF says no its the suger I'm craving to stay away. I have not had a frappuccino or latte in three weeks. My dr said no empty caliors. Thoughts? Anyways, I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you. This is a great forum! I have learned so much. Tina

Sorry to respond so late, I never made it to the computer yesterday. Perhaps I misinterpeted the dr. When he saw me he said I need to lose ten pound before my surgery. I will be on a liquid diet the week before. I guess I feel that its better for me to start early then wait until the last minute to try to get the weight off. I know myself, this will be a struggle and I dont want the pressure to lose 10 in one week. My dr also said that the more weight you lose before the surgery the better.
