Little Debbie, I never got toilet tongs. And I am doing just fine! Unless they could help tie shoes, that's the only area I can't reach well is to bend over and tie my shoes. I wanted to go on a longer walk this afternoon so didn't want to wear my sandals. If we go again, I'll probably ask DH to tie them for me. My biggest complaint would have to be how tired and weak I feel. I slept 12 hours last night, fell asleep twice in the chair and took a 2 hour nap this afternoon, and I'm still sleepy! Might as well enjoy it while I can and my daughter and husband are here taking care of the house etc. We are getting out of town company on Tues. so I hope to be perkier by then.

    I'm here to help...

I'm feeling a little better every day. I am focusing on getting more water in today, I think I am getting dehydrated. My mouth is so dry I don't have an saliva. I am carrying a bottle around with me all day and sipping. Not sure if I am sipping too much as I've more of an issue with naseau today. Never had much gas pain, and the port hole/incision is the most painful, but so far today have only taken Tylenol, i have oxocodone for my pain pill and they don't make me too loopy, at least I didn't think so til I played a game of cards with hubby and kids last night and I couldn't add my score. LOL I am so tired though, slept from 8 to 8 last night and just fell asleep in the chair. I was supposed to go to a BBQ tomorrow but think I will cancel.

    It's really REAL!!!

Hey Huggie, We had very similar experiences. The transport person forgot me to on the way to get the swallow test. I got so naseous from just sitting in that wheelchair and not being hooked up to my IV Iguess. I had to get a shot of something in my IV to settle it down. Also, I got a 2 for 1 deal as well, had a hiatal hernia repaired as well. Welcome home!! My surgery was Thursday.

I don't know, that's the guidelines the hospital and dr. office gave me. They even game me a sheet to long my drinks every 15 min. I did up it to 2 oz when I had some broth for lunch. This every 15 min. 1 oz at a time is just for the first couple days til about day 5. Then I can add more. I am really liking the Isopure clear protein drinks so far Apple Melon is my favorite. My mouth is so dry so I am tempted to really chug some water but they cautioned against doing that too, just slow small sips. But my recovery is going so well I hate to change it up too.

Good luck to those being banded today. I was banded yesterday and oh what a difference a day makes! I feel almost normal today. A little pain but not much. The hardest part is drinking every 15 min. and getting in enough protein in 1 oz of a drink of protein every hour. I tried upping that to 2 oz but it made me nauseous. I slept good last night in my bed, no recliner and was even able to sleep on my sides. My hubby would stand at the side of the bed and hold his arm out real stiff. I would hold on and he'd gradually pull me up or let me down to lie down, as the hardest part was getting in and out of bed. I peeked at the scale this morning and I'M UP 8 LBS SINCE SURGERY!!! What's up with that? The gas and IV's they pump into you? Oh I've had hardly no gas pain, for sure no shoulder pain!! YAHOO!!!!

Long2bthin - Prayers, Hugs - you will be find - Yes will be the 1st day of the rest of your new healthier life... We you feel up to it - let us know how you are... Hugs Janet I am doing pretty good today. I slept light but long last night, from about 930 to 8am. I woke up a lot, but was glad to get some rest. And am taking it very easy today. Struggling a little with the drinking and Protein today. It's hard to get so much protein in, one oz. at a time. The pain is very manageable, a lot less than I thought there'd be!! Thanks for your encouragement and advice!
  7. I am one day out from surgery, and I feel great for someone that had surgery less than 24 hours ago. I won't say I'm feeling no pain, but I am feeling a lot less pain than I had thought I would, so that's good. Everything went great, the dr. found a small hiatal hernia while he was in there and fixed that as well. I struggled a little at first upon waking up. I think they just had me up so fast to go do the swallow xray. Also I got these shakes/shivers from the anestesia, she put some demerol in my IV and I was good about 15 min. later. I felt like a new person and couldn't wait to come home. I came home about 630 last night, surgery was at 1. I didn't need the recliner, I slept in my bed and even on my side. Today I am doing my drinking every 15 min. trying to figure out if I am getting the right amount of protien. By the time I left for the hospital yesteray, I was real calm, I had felt good about my decision, put the naysayers out of my mind. When they came and got me to change into my 'designer hospital gown' I got a little nervous and cried a little when they made me say good by to my husband and daughter. I remember waking up with 2 thoughts on my mind: 1) am I supposed to be awake? LOL and 2) Yipee it's over!! I'm on the other side now and banded!

I am home from surgery and doing well! I was scheduled for 1pm but think I went in shortly after 12. I was home at 7pm. I'm a little sore, the description people get of doing 1000 situps sounds about right. I'm pretty dopey right now, will tell more about it tomorrow or so!! Thanks for the good thoughts. I am so glad it's over!! Oh and the smaller band was too small so he put a larger one on with a 4cc fill already, does that make sense? Also he found a small hiatal hernia that he repaired, not sure what that is so am going to go try googling it now.

    Who's getting banded in June

Kristi, I never heard of the lose 5% thing. Good luck!! Different dr. must require different things. However, you should do fine. I had my consultation with my surgeon on May 14, and had my pre op visit yesterday, surgery today, and I am down 12 lbs. since then. I've been on clear liquids for 48 hours that helped some. LOL

StrikeUp, glad you are doing so well. It's good to read those type of reports. ONE DAY TO GO FOR ME!! SURGERY TOMORROW!!!!
  13. Mekadig, I could've written your post almost word for word. Having surgery tomorrow as well. Having the EXACT same fears and thoughts. I fought so hard for this surgery and now second thoughts. Didn't make sense, but I think it's normal. My biggest fear is of failing as well, but this is different than every other diet you've tried. You still have to do the work, the band can fail if you don't, it's tool and if you use it correctly you will succeed. I had a similar experience last night about bypass patients badmouthing the band and it was at my dr.'s support group meeting. When I told him about it at my pre op this morning he wasn't happy and wants me to email him the details. The support group was for all weight loss patients, just so happens this one (went because it was last night and I just needed support because of all these thoughts) had mostly bypass patients. The normal facilitator was ill so there was a sub that wasn't a trained facilitator. She let a couple loud mouths totally take over the meeting. And they were saying how you couldn't be as successful with the band, you'd regain your weight, and could cheat around it. Well DUH!! you can't do that with the bypass? There was a man there at least 400 lbs that had bypass in 2002 and did just that, and regained all his weight. I chose the lap band because it was less invasive, I could always get a fill or unfill as needed for years to come. Remember you made this decision when you were more rational (by that I mean not the day before surgery and having all sorts of thoughts), you researched it, and more than likely had to fight for it. You chose it for a reason, remember those reasons and try and let the fear go. I say this for my own benefit as well. Good luck tomorrow!!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

No different Dr.s must do it differently. No letters here. Mine required you go to one of his seminars first which I did on 4/26, then I made a consult appt on 5/14, got all my pre op testing done, and having surgery tomorrow!! Just had my pre op today.

WooHoo!! Our first surgery reports!! Glad you guys are doing great! That's what I like to hear 2 days before my surgery! I'm almost afraid to read the surgical accounts because I'm afraid I'll read something bad, but am glad I did cause they were good! Today is day one of pre op clear liquid diet, and I'm hungry, can't imagine what tomorrow will bring and then on Thurs. my surgery isn't til 1. Tomorrow is my pre op with the dr. and labwork at the hospital. Anxious to get that done.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Charlene, I got cortisone in my knee and before I did I asked my lap band surgeon if it would affect my surgery at all and he said no. Of course, check with your dr. first and see what he says.
  17. Yes a little bit I guess, as here it is midnight and I'm on the computer instead of sleeping!! I'm a bunch of things, nervous, anxious, excited, scared, you name it. How about you?

    Who's getting banded in June

Hi Bella, I know what you mean, I went to my seminar 4/26, my consult appt on 5/14 and surgery will be Thurs 6/4. During the process it seemed long and tedious but now that it's here it was like Wow! I can't believe it's here already!
  19. Welcome Tonia, we have the same surgery date!! Good luck on Thursday!!

    It's June!!!

Cathy, I start 2 days of Clear liquids tomorrow in prep for surgery. Just had to eat high Protein before that and watch my portions. I'm dreading that and then after surgery it's another 5 to 7 days of liquids. Good luck to you!! We can do this!! Here's to a sweet recovery weekend!!

    It's June!!!

Well Jazzy June bugs, it's our month. The first month of the rest of our lives!!! Are we ready? I know I am!! I am anxious to start reading our first reports of surgery, I've been reading some over in the Mays and it's been so helpful to read all the details of what to expect.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Woo HOO!!! I got the call today and my surgery was moved up a week, instead of the 12th, I'm getting banded on this Thursday the 5th!!!!! Tomorrow starts the 2 day clear liquid diet. Wed. is my pre op lab work and visit, then 1pm the next - SURGERY!! YIKES!! I'm scared, excited, anxious to have it done, etc. As for my knees I am starting injections of something called Synvisc (or something like that) it's made from rooster combs and is a gel to replace cartlidge in my knee. I am hoping I get pain relief from that and then as I lose weight it gets better too. They say 1 lb is like 3 to 5 lbs on your knees. I feel a little difference already with my little loss before surgery. I already cleared the injections with my surgeon that they were okay to get and wouldn't interfer with my surgery and he assured me it was fine so tomorrow is the first one. I am going to be so poked and proded by the end of the week!
