  1. Keep us updated. My son will be taking that trip eventually. Good luck and be safe!
  2. Use bariatric vitamins. They have doses that are tailored for us bariatric patients. I use a multi w/iron I bought from Amazon. The brand is ProCare Health and it's a chewable. I was also told to take Vitamin B complex w/50 mg of thiamine. A probiotic with 10 strains. 10 Billion of something which is a lot! LOL Two hours later I can take a 1200-1500 mg chewable calcium citrate w/vitamin D3 and chew another one 3 or 4 hrs later. Iron has to be separated from calcium by 2 hours. I'm looking forward to just swallowing my vitamins because in my opinion, they're all gross. I have to finish my current supply of chewables first. Good luck on your WLS journey!
  3. Definitely going to look back at this after I pass the 6 month point. Thanks for sharing your find!
  4. As soon as you get your gown on tell them you are anxious/nervous and they will give you some happy juice and it's smooth sailing from there. Next thing you know, you are awake in a different room and it's over. This was my first major surgery too and it wasn't bad at all. Over before I knew it.

    Insurance Inquiries

A lot of insurance companies don't cover it. I had to wait until I got a policy through an insurance company that covered it. Sometimes it's just a coverage level Gold, Bronze, Silver, Dirt, etc...
  6. 1 day liquid before surgery and 2 weeks after. I went back to work after 1 week of licking my wounds. Walking a lot after surgery is the key to quick recovery.

    Pre op labs,x-ray,ekg

As soon as you get out of the hospital you can start chomping down the chewable vitamins. While I was in the hospital, I had a chart that gave me exact times to drink some water from a 2 oz cup. I failed miserably. The nurses kept getting mad but I was not in my right mind the first couple days after surgery. I was just confused but eventually just started sipping every few minutes from a bottle of water. I got it down now Good luck, these are exciting times!

    Pain on my scar

Most surgeons will put some extra stitches at the site where the camera was inserted or the specimen was extracted for sleeve patients to help prevent an Incisional hernia.

Time it takes to eat food

I have a hard time slowing down when I eat because I'm always busy doing something else. I struggle with taking 30 minutes to eat a small meal like the nut wants me to do so I end up with tons of gas all the time witch is the worse part of this journey so far. I end up just consuming premier protein for convenience. I wonder if I can just live on 3 of those a day for the rest of my life? LOL
  11. The more sleep you can get the better. That's awesome!

    3 days until surgery

Those are all good things to have as soon as you get home. Popsicles are good to get your water levels up there and protein water goes down better than shakes. Get the knorr chicken bullion cubes. The warm salty stuff seemed to help me. The texture of jello was weird for me after surgery but some people swear by it. Good luck!

    A little TMI

I hope it's not a babies head ... Just sayin, there's a lot of shows on TLC about these surprise deliveries.
  15. Hopefully you have a good program that educates you about the different options. You should along with your surgeon be able to make a choice that best suits your medical needs. I had a class that I had to attend to start things off that gave me two options, sleeve or gastric bypass. The surgeon spoke to the class with illustrations on a projector and took questions about both procedures. I then went home and started a 6 month diet that was laid out in detail by a nutritionist. During the 6 months before my face to face with the surgeon, I had lots of time to think about the pros and cons of both surgeries. During the 6 month diet, I would become dead set on the sleeve then read or hear something that changed my mind and I would start feeling like the bypass was the best choice. It kept going like that for about 2 or 3 months until I watched so many YouTube videos and read so many articles and forums that I decided on the bypass. Whatever you do, make sure you go into this educated and you are not pushed into making a decision based only on what one doctor says. I don't know if it will happen but I would like to go the rest of my life without another major surgery. I was determined to get this right the first time. Take it slow, do your homework and make sure you are putting your trust in a reputable center of excellence.
  16. I had my own room and after looking at the breakdown for my total bill I could see why. Just the bill for the hospital was $80,129.15. My total bill for the surgery was $92,437.19 so most of it went to the hospital.

When and How Much Vitamin D3?

I had low vitamin D before surgery as well. I started taking just the vitamin D3 supplements and then switched to the Calcium citrate with D3 1200-1500 mg twice a day as directed by my Nut pre surgery. I take multi with iron, B complex with 50mg of thiamine, and a probiotic when I wake up. I take the Calcium with D3 about noon and again about 5pm.

    Bariatric Supplements BEFORE Surgery

I started taking them on about day 6 post-op. That's when I was doing pretty good with my water and protein shakes. It's good to have the ability to wash the taste of those things out of your mouth.
  21. We had the same surgery on the same day. I'm so used to losing weight at a slow pace that I'm blown away by the immediate weight loss after my surgery. In my mind, I should go through a healing process for about a month and then start slowly loosing. I grabbed some pants that I haven't wore in about 6 months yesterday and threw them on and went to work only to realize that they look pretty stupid and won't stay up on their own anymore. LOL I think if we're doing it right, we will retain muscle at certain points which weighs more than fat and lose size. You will be shrinking and not see it on the scale. The proof is in my pants I had to hold up all day yesterday.

    Bariatric Supplements BEFORE Surgery

I started taking the vitamins after I went to the all day class thing I had to go to. The nutritionist was there and explained how and when to take them. After surgery, I had to switch to chewable but the type and times stayed the same. The chewable vitamins are gross by the way. I can't wait to go back to the swallow and forget about it vitamins.
  23. Thank you so much for this! Kaiser looks so much more thorough than my surgery place. I'm really pleased with their services. It was definitely on the up and up.
