Why liquids only?
Ed_NW replied to BelleOfBatonRouge's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know for a colonoscopy, the day before it's liquids only with a chaser of Miralax and Gatorade. That down rite cleans you out! I don't think 2 weeks is necessary but whatever the surgeon wants, I'm down for it. -

I was considering the fact that she just went to her Dr. to talk about WLS surgery just a few weeks ago. I have 2 more months before I can even schedule a surgery date and I started this journey about 6 months ago. At the WLS class I attended back in June, they said to quit caffeine, NSAIDs, etc. at least 45 days before your surgery date. If your surgery date is coming up within the next 2 months, I apologize for the suggestion. My bad 😐

This has a small amount of caffeine if you want to ween yourself off slowly.

How long did it take for your insurance to approve surgery
Ed_NW replied to MatthewM's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
After a couple days of receiving it. -
My sister-in-law had RNY over 10 years ago and she is still doing really well. Of the two surgeries, RNY is the gold standard and has the best results long term. You never hear of someone going in for a revision from RNY to sleeve, just saying.

Self pay vs insurance with likely denial
Ed_NW replied to 2Bsmaller18's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I was going to say, you are a prime candidate for Bariatricpal mx. They almost have a better track record than we do here in the states anymore. I'm getting my RNY done in Bellevue, WA through Kaiser but I almost think it would've been better, cheaper and less hassle going to Mexico. Kaiser is dragging this out into the next enrollment year for me which means my deductible will reset. 😏 -
Heading to the store today for the pre/post-op meals! Tips?
Ed_NW replied to mousecat88's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
I've done the protein shakes and healthy choice before surgery and have lost quite a bit (still pre-op) so far. It's good that you're getting fired up! All of those things along with food tracking help a lot. Good luck! -
I think the mentality of "waste not, want not" was passed down from my grandparents generation. They were born between 1905 and 1922, right before the great depression. A lot of the people that you see on these hoarder shows grew up with that mentality. Most people that feel a conviction to clean their plates also subscribe to that way of thinking. I broke the tradition of holding on to junk just because "someday I might meed it". I recently bought a new house and I took more trips to the dump than I did to my new place (a lot got put on Craigslist). Out with the old and in with the new. With all of that said, I was a human garbage disposal because nobody else in the house would eat leftovers and I couldn't stand to see it go to waste. That's insanity and through this journey I've realized that. The new way of dealing with food for me is similar to the way I deal with other possessions. Out with the old and in with the new (and try not to prepare too much).

Haha...That's pretty cool! It's like they made the character in your likeness. I think I mostly resembled Eric Cartman when I was young. LOL

Clear protein drinks suggestions.
Ed_NW replied to BelleOfBatonRouge's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You need protein water like Isopure from GNC or Super Supplements or Walmart has protein water as well. -
I had to quit the diet cokes too. I switched to smart water sparkling...

2 Weeks Post-Op - Full Esophagus?
Ed_NW replied to beingdina's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You probably caused some swelling with the potato. Maybe try some crushed ice instead of water. -
Constantly Garth Brooks. Drove me nuts. This is my son and I when he was 4 in a photo booth. He's 24 now. LOL

I'm 51 years old and have been married for 30 years. I've never believed in traditional ways of thinking when it comes to marriage. I think you need to be faithful and intimate but keep your individuality. My parents were divorced when I was 2 and my Dad remarried and divorced 2 more times before becoming the loner hermit that he is now. There are matriarchs and patriarchs and both controlling personalities can be equally oppressive. Sometimes people of either gender try to find a partner that fills a void that was left by the parent opposite their gender. These people have huge insecurities and act childish toward their spouse that (probably unintentionally) treats them like a child. I started my marriage by emphasizing the point that she needs to have her life and I need to have my life and we need to have our life. We don't always agree on what is the best food to eat, the best car to drive, the best clothes to wear, etc. but we do come to an agreement when it comes to things that effect the household as a group. The trick is knowing what is an individual decision and what decisions effect the family as a whole.

Is rny good for BMI 36/37 with high blood pressure
Ed_NW replied to harmony love's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My kids are grown with kids of their own now. My wife and I fed my two boys junk because that's what we grew up on so we didn't give it much thought. They both married women that are very conscious of what foods they eat and feed their children. I've learned so much about nutrition researching for WLS and I constantly encourage them to keep up the good work teaching my grand kids the right way to eat. No better time to break a bad cycle of eating habits than now. I feel horrible for not researching this stuff when my kids were young but with no personal computer in your pocket (phone), that would've required going to the library back in the late 80's. LOL -
I was wondering how long do you need to worry about leaks
Ed_NW replied to kpeterson's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You should probably check for ulcers too. I've had one and it causes those symptoms among others. -
You might need these shakes. Kinda spendy though... https://shop.katefarms.com/products/standard-1-0-vanilla?gclid=Cj0KCQjwuuHdBRCvARIsAELQRQF-eNb7Xecs4LTxB4WLVAw-_gQv5vG9LC91P-KEXPJSlKww16RJeT8aAsLrEALw_wcB

Might as well do it right the first time. Good luck with everything. -
I'm 51 years old and work and pay the ridiculous insurance costs myself. It's not going to get better anytime soon. Insurance companies are estimating huge premium increases again in 2019.
