    Importance of Water?

The number 1 reason for re-admittance of bariatric patients after WLS is dehydration. Your team wants to prevent you from having to be on IV fluids so they really push the water especially while you are in the healing stage. I was told to focus on hydration and not worry so much about protein or even vitamins the first couple weeks.

    Having second thoughts... Help!

Same day as me, we got this!
  5. I was told not to worry about taking the vitamins the first week post op. I guess the most important thing the first couple weeks is hydration. SF pop cycles and warm broth is supposed to go down easy. Maybe try those.

    Intermittent Fasting Questions

You're lucky you can sleep that much. It's a great accomplishment for me if I can get 8 hours. I'm 52 and it seems the older I get the less sleep I get. I feel way better if I sleep more so when I roll over and see 5am on the clock and I went to bed at 11pm, I'm pissed. LOL
  7. I go in the day before you and the nerves do ramp up the closer the date gets as with any important life changing event. I'm just trying to occupy my brain with other things so I don't obsess over it. Just remember, you are leaps and bounds above the people that say afterwards "I wish I had done it earlier".
  8. Nobody is picking on you for bringing up Dr Vuong. Most people that are properly prepared for surgery will research WLS on YouTube and come across him. I've had almost a full year before my surgery to binge watch YouTube videos on the topic. I watch a YouTube channel the same way someone would watch breaking bad...LOL I start at the beginning and watch until I get to the current video. I did that with Dr. Vuong's channel. Another Dr. that I watched all of his YouTube content was Dr. Shaw Somers on the fat doctor. He is the kindest and most caring Doctor I've came across in my 8 months of WLS video binge watching. It's sad they canceled his show. Thanks for bringing up this topic, we always like to discuss it.
  9. I used to like Dr. Vong until he gave up being a doctor to pursue his get rich quick scams. Now he tries to use his entertaining WLS platform to promote and rope in potential pyramid scam victims. I lost a lot of respect for him when he started doing that. I will say, I was hooked on his earlier videos. They were funny and educational at the same time. I think Alex Brecher said he's met him before and also thinks he's taken a turn for the worse.
  10. I only have to do a 1 day liquid diet to make sure there's nothing in the pipes when they start cutting. I had a 6 month diet that required me to lose 10% of my weight. I think that shrinks the liver. It will be nice to get the whole pre-op stuff behind me and move on to the post-op life. This last week before surgery is full of uncertainty.
  11. You'll be fine. I'll have my gastric bypass the day before you. Just get back on track and we will succeed!

    Interpreting men

I think for a person that's been obese most of their life, it can be hard to interpret other people's intentions. It can even be a strange experience when someone of the same gender is nice to you. You spend your life in a bubble because people (for the most part) don't care to interact with fat people. They gravitate towards the fit and attractive. My daughter-in-law is your typical beautiful fit blonde girl but she has a real down to earth personality. I've known her since she was a kid. I've always noticed how differently she's treated in public by strangers than the obese (like myself) are. I think when you grow up (as what society considers to be) attractive, you tend to handle attention from others differently. I think she expects guys to come on to her so she doesn't really let it bother her. When you spend your life not being noticed and virtually invisible to others, it creates a certain level of naivety. I've only lost 55 lbs and it seems like people are treating me differently. I can just imagine what it will be like after the surgery and I hit my goal weight. I've been obese and invisible for a long time. I too might be creeped out by unwanted attention. LOL
  13. That's the best way to do it. I hurt myself trying to figure it out on my own. A trainer can keep you from injuring yourself. It's always best to have professional guidance if you can afford it.

    Bowel Movements

If you're not taking probiotics, you should add a probiotic yogurt to your food intake. Maybe replace a protein shake with some activia. That's what I was told to do.
  15. Thanks, I guess I'm ready. The nervous feeling seems to ramp up the closer I get to the 17th. It will be nice once I'm post-op
  16. We get stabbed on the same day. We got this, Good luck with your surgery!

    December Bypass Twin?

Gastric bypass on the 17th. Nothing like surgery for Christmas!
  20. This is what the Nutritionist told me to take for that.
  21. I go the 17th for the plumbing rearrangement. I had a colonoscopy a few years ago at age 49 (52 now) because of family history of colon cancer. It's a good feeling to get a clean bill of health. I have to get it done regularly whatever that means.

    Second thoughts!

I think the biggest question to ask yourself isn't, can I loose all of the weight on my own but do I have physiological barriers that prevent me from being healthy. The biggest thing that WLS does for you is change the way you think about food. If (like most of us here) you are a food addict, you will need something drastic like WLS to keep you on track for the rest of your life. The sleeve is a good first step because it doesn't have the same malabsorption levels as the bypass. As a matter of fact, you might consider in the future changing to a more restrictive operation because you are not as successful with maintaining weight loss as you would like to be. Lots to think about. Continue to do your research and good luck!
  23. Most people suggest trying different temperatures when it comes to water from iced to hot. She can use sugar free pop cycles to bring up the hydration level too. She can sip broth and use unflavored protein powder instead of the shakes. She needs to ask her doc about the meds. Some can be crushed and some are extended release. She might have to change up her meds if that's the case. Good luck!
  24. They will be exploring an area that's far away from where the WLS was performed. It's pretty easy, I had it done. The worst part is the colon cleanse the day before. After that, it's a breeze. Good for you. An ounce of prevention.......
  25. I think when a person is at the gym, (regardless of how they look) the perception is kind of like that of someone that is attending a college. That person is at that place to better themselves. Now if that same overweight person is at Walmart wearing skin tight clothes riding a scooter through the snack isle, they might be photographed and put on the interwebs for all to judge. Just saying...I've seen it.
