  1. Can I ask, what kind of food stage schedule does your doctor use? I had surgery on 9/10 and I’m supposed to be on Clear Liquids until 9/24, puréed 9/25-10/8, adaptive/soft 10/9-12/9. Seems like such a long time but I’m sure he has set it this way for a reason. At least now I understand why the other people at my meetings were complaining about just wanting a salad SO badly! Lol
Man I'm so jealous lol. My doctors require a 3 week full liquid diet before stage 2. So tired of Protein Shakes and only liquids. 21 days will be this Wednesday 10/03. I'm so ready to move on.

I’m on Prilosec. I can eat 3-4 oz of Protein and then I stop and 20 mins later my stomach feels empty. Like I didn’t eat.

You're making sure you aren't drinking 30 minutes before or after and overall drinking enough fluids throughout the rest of the day? Sometimes if you're not drinking enough it can feel like hunger and if you drink near eating it can flush the food out before it gets a chance to digest leaving you feeling hungry.

Don't focus on the time, it'll only make it seem longer!
Just focus on doing what you need to, then before you know it, you'll be progressing to "real" foods.

When in doubt or when you feel like you are struggling. Just remember all the reasons why you wanted the surgery and remember to stay strong.

So true. I just have to keep my eyes on the road ahead and remember my goal. Ugh is it difficult though. They literally have cake at my work like EVERY DAY. I'm not even exaggerating. I think they have connections with a party catering company or something with the amount of cake people buy there. I don't even understand how they can afford to buy cake every week, lol. So, today at our meeting, CAKE AGAIN. Thankfully I wasn't alone in not partaking because there was a vegan in the meeting as well but man. One lady actually brought a toaster oven and baked Cookies in the building one time. I'm like. T.T It will be worth it though and nothing worth doing was ever easy. One of my co-workers was very sweet in sympathizing with me and said they would bring me sugar free Jello, lol.

  4. Yeah, the gas was a problem for me the first week after. I just COULDN'T get rid of it. I wanted to...but couldn't. All I can say is...it'll pass? (Cheeky pun. Make that two cheeky puns.)
What kinds of things are on your liquid diet? Just shakes? I found a brand of chicken Soup Protein mix that got me through. sugar-free popsicles and sugar-free Jello also helped some.
I do shakes twice a day. I'm thinking of ordering some bariatric Soups to mix it up because just the shakes is so boring and simple broth is flavorless and depressing. Nice pun lol. 2 more weeks of this. Never in my life has pureed scrambled eggs sounded appetizing until now. I can't wait to have texture back in my life.

  5. So I've been back at work since Tuesday. My procedure was 09/12. I've been doing so much better pain wise. I haven't needed meds for pain in 2 days. I'm on day 8 now. My main issue now is bloating and gas discomfort. I've been taking gas-x but nothing is working and i feel like a balloon. Lol. I have 2 more weeks of full liquids but I'm dreaming of some sort of real food. :( how is everyone else doing? Any tips or tricks? Please share!20180920_151352.jpeg

  6. How long did your incision pain last? Day 5 and it’s only slightly better. Would like to stop the pain meds because they turn my stomach.
5 days for me too. They don't hurt when I'm just laying down but if i get up or cough it hurts like hell. I've found that making sure my tummy is securely bound with my binder before attempting moving around helps hold everything in place and makes the pain far less.

  7. What the heck?! Surgery was 8/22, I lost 10lbs right away but now I've gained 3 back. I feel like I'm already failing. Has anyone had a similar experience?

some tips, only weigh yourself 1st thing in the morning after using the bathroom and with minimal clothing. Limit weighing yourself to once a week if possible. Many have said it fluctuates and that's so true. Many things happen from the time you wake till the time you sleep and your weight can bounce around just during the course of a day. Keep up good habits and you'll be good!

  8. Glad your doing well. As the others say start walking ASAP
My nurse has been amazing walking with me. Using the breathing spirometer is a pain in the arse but really drinking isn't as bad as i thought it would be. Like dory just keep sipping! I was out of it from pain medicine. Now I am more alert. No nausea or heartburn so far. 20180913_020135.jpeg 20180913_015830.jpeg

  9. I've just done my labs and am waiting to be admitted for my sleeve gastrectomy today. I'm very excited but slightly nervous. I'm alone in the waiting room since it's so early but I should have visitors later after the surgery is complete. Wish me luck!

  10. I'm so sorry for your loss. I had surgery about 9 months after my husbands death. It was hard to deal with both the grief and the weight loss surgery. I think emotionally the weight loss, surgery, etc has been harder for me because of this. But I also think that it's been a bit of a distraction from the grieving. I'm much more introspective now. And overall I think it's been a positive if difficult journey. I'm trying to adopt some of his more positive traits as a testament to him. Grieving is a time consuming and consuming process. But overall I think distracting yourself from the pain isn't necessarily a bad thing. I wish you the best of luck through your journey.
I'm sorry you lost your love. You're right, it is extremely hard to do these things when experiencing grief. Whenever I feel like slipping I think that eating something to make myself feel better would be like putting a tiny band aid on a large open wound. It's not going to solve the problem and may very well make it worse. The emotional pain is a lot. Life is hard but we owe it to ourselves and to our loved ones to continue on and be strong. I hope you've had great success with this and are doing well. :)

  11. Sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. You are so inspiring.
Just some advice since I’m post op day 3...get a heating compress. It has helped me so much. Make sure you get anti nausea meds prior to the surgery and after. I have lavender and peppermint essential oils to help me relax and make my pillows smell good. Oh yeah, a lot of pillows. I made sure to buy a king size pillow and took it to the hospital. It has helped me a whole lot. I have like 10 pillows on my bed lol [emoji38]
I also bought some rose Water toner spray to spritz on my face for a little pick me up. Those little extra things have helped me. Take care!!!
Thank you. Ok, that's great advice and I never thought about that. a heating compress sounds like a good idea. I can get the oils from sprouts i think. As for the nausea, yea, i had hyper emesis gravidarium with both of my pregnancies (condition that makes you throw up the entire pregnancy) i made sure they prescribed me lots of the nausea one lol. If there's one thing i hate it's throwing up because i did it for so long before. Hopefully these tips and the medication will make that less of a worry for us both! Congrats on your procedure and glad you're doing well.

  12. I also am saddened by,your loss, I had a son die suddenly at 31, he died of an aortic dissection but he also had undiagnosed cardiomegaly, we found out a lot from, his autopsy. And he also was strong and athletic. Been 10 and half years, still miss him dearly. Do your weight loss surgery as an memorial to your sister, yo7 know she wanted you to have it. And I would, love to think a portion of her spirit lives on in you. incedently,i just had my surgery September 5th and am still recovering. [emoji120]prayers for you now and in the future.
Thank you. I'm sorry you lost your baby. It was my sister It hurts so much but I couldn't imagine the loss of a child. It's so hard to comprehend when there is no illness preceding it. You don't get the chance to say goodbye or face the possibility like you would with an illness that you knew about. Prayers for you and your recovery as well, let me know how it's going! Thank you for sharing that with me. :)

  13. I'm so sorry for your loss, but it sounds like you have a strong support system and I believe that is key..
I had my surgery 8/20 and returned to work the following Monday. I managed 6 - 8 hour working days. It was rough the first 3 back to work, but it eased up as I got back into a rhythm.
Just remember post surgery...walk walk walk and drink drink drink. It took me 2-3 hrs to get my Protein in initially and I felt like I was drinking all day. Just keep up on your fluids no matter how much you dislike. It's really the key to your initial recovery.
Remember we are all here to help you, reach out anytime.
Yes, i have heard it is very difficult at first because you can't drink very much initially. Was there anything special you packed for work that made the transition easier? My doctor suggested i freeze my pre made Protein Drink and let it defrost for lunch since i don't have a fridge at work for my milk to mix it fresh during lunch.

  14. I make my tray with meats, cheese, raspberries and almonds.
No crackers - if you place crackers out for your family or nuts on the tray...There is no need for you to eat them them. You can enjoy the other items that are Protein packed.
I use parmesan cheese crisps instead of crackers. You can make your own or buy them.
Step 1 Preheat oven to 400°.
Step 2 Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Spoon cheese by tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheet. Spread each mound to a 2-inch diameter. Sprinkle mounds with pepper. Bake at 400° for 6 to 8 minutes or until crisp and golden. Cool completely on baking sheet. Remove from baking sheet using a thin spatula.

  15. Yes! I'm having the same result. I'm afraid my surgery is not working anymore.

Well the surgery is just a tool. Consistently practice good eating habits and exercise and don't think about the surgery. Make good decisions when eating and drinking and make sure you're getting enough hydration. The loss will start up again!

Hi everyone! I was sleeved on 10/10 and I just hit about 7 weeks out. The picture on the left was me the day before my two week pre-op diet and the right was at my 7 week mark. I feel incredible. I have more energy, my chronic pain is virtually gone and I am no longer pre-diabetic. I have no regrets about this surgery. I had a really rough time in the beginning but it got so much better after the first month. I was stuck in a two week stall but the scale is finally moving. I took measurements through the process and I strongly encourage others to, because after awhile the scale will not be your friend lol. I just wanted to post some encouragement this morning for someone maybe considering the surgery or maybe about to have it. It will be the best decision of your life!

You look great, get it girl!

  17. I am sorry for your loss. I bet your sister will be there will you, cheering you on- even if you can't see her.
Thank you. I really hope so. It's so hard looking a picture of her. You can see her beautiful spirit behind her eyes and it makes you feel like you could just run into the next room and she'd be there to tell her everything or just hold her hand but then you remember you can't anymore. I do pray she is happy and proud. [emoji4]

  18. I started my weight loss journey in Sept 2008. Had absolutely NO complications or problems and lost over half my weight in 3-4 months. I weighed 247 on the day of my surgery and quickly plummeted to a sexy 125!! Felt amazing and looked it too! However, 5 years later I had picked up a brand new habit!! I started going out...like to bars...which I had never done in my life ( I was married w/ kids so this wasn't acceptable) anyway, Now, I was divorced and had alot of free time on the weekends. Had a wonderful job, gaining new friends, hobbies etc. However, I also started drinking. Would never have more than 3-4 Captain and Cokes but my god they were delicious to me!! I had never drank before nor did I drink much soda. I quickly found myself drinking on the weekends while out with friends. Long story short, 2 years later I got a DUI !!! The first and ONLY person in my family that drank much less, get arrested. This killed my spirits, and I felt I had let my family down so I swore off alcohol. Fast forward 2 years...no job, new relationship that required a move 3 hrs away from everything I had ever known, only to find he was an alcoholic who was also physically abusive when drunk (strangled me on numerous occasions)...I started drinking again (along with him and only at home) just to get my mind off the fact that I was so far away from my family and other miseries. I am now on my own, doing very well, great job, my own place but have now started drinking wine (a whole bottle of Pink Moscato) a few nights a week. This didn't really start until this past April when I had a full hysterectomy....Thankfully, I have never had a hangover, never get sick and am actually really productive around the house..(which isn't a bad thing) I guess my question is, I have gained about 13 lbs since this time last year ( my job is sitting for 12 hrs 4 days a week) when I am home ( I live alone) I am just sedentary and don't really have any energy to do much of anything ( severely anemic and get Iron infusions every week ) so do you think it is the Wine that is causing the weight gain, the Full hysterectomy, the desk job or just a combination.??? I would really like to stop any further weight gain and any answers would be appreciated.

Alcohol can be a large contributor to weight gain. It has a lot of carbs. I'd you approach it from that stand point a 750 ml bottle of wine with 5 oz serving size and about 4 carbs per serving would have 5 servings in the bottle. If you drink the whole thing you're basically drinking 4carbs×5 servings and that comes out to about 20 carbs. If you're also getting carbs in other ways it can all add up. Carbs will sneak up in you if you let them back in. A pound or 2 here and you can backslide without realizing it. You have been through so much and you can't let this defeat you! People can suck, a LOT, but at the end is the day, the person you're spending the rest of your life with is you. Love yourself and rise above, you will get through it. As others have said, counseling may be beneficial. If you're insured through your employer they may have covered services for this.
