Congratulations! What a lifestyle change you have made. Over the last 5 years with the Lap-Band and now a Sleeve I have learned that exercise is the key. Do something every day that gets your heart pumping! Happy Birthday!

Hi - you are on the right track. I was banded in 2007 and lost 160 pounds; on Jan. 23rd I had my band removed and I was sleeved. During the first year I had my band, I was obsessed with my weight loss. I came to the conclusion that my band wasn't simply about me losing weight, it was more about me focusing on being healthy. I threw away my scale and never weighed myself again (only stepped on a scale when I went to my scheduled doctor's visits). Most importantly, I exercised. I made it a point to do something each day. I walked/jogged; I did sit-ups, pushups; I danced around the house with my kids - anything to increase my endorphins. Throw that scale away and get movin! You are doing great and have made an awesome lifestyle change.

If you are having trouble getting your fluids you might want to try drinking more warm or at least room temp fluids. Warmer fluids help reduce the swelling and are therefore easier to get in. Good Luck.

Kinda looks like mine did. The outward signs go away and you will be feeling much better in a few days

So it has been a year. To the day. Wow! Just…wow.
Progress has been steady. Had a slip up but I am back on track. I think there for a little while I felt bullet proof, you know? Nine months out and I was doing well. I have an additional metabolism issue (genetic) that I knew I would not be the high end loser, so I was comfortable with my loss. I had a foot injury, couldn’t run for a long time, couldn’t do as much of what I normally do as often…and let some bad habits creep in as I dealt with inactivity (inactivity = boredom for me). Holidays were approaching and I was really feeling the loss of my Mom (My Mom passed away a week after my surgery, unexpectedly). So I slipped. Then I caught myself and got right back up again.
My “last diet” began in January of 2011…I lost some after months of trying, kept it off a little, and about the same time it began to creep back on I was diagnosed with a tumor in my stomach lining – call it serendipity or what you will…I had to have a lot of my tummy removed anyway, I had lost weight I did not want to put back on, and long story short: “last diet” 1/2011, diagnosed w/tumor 10/2011, sleeved 1/4/2012.
I was self-pay more than insurance covered anything, because the insurance argued I could get the tumor removed endoscopically, grrrr…but oh well and bills, bills, bills later (paid but disputing a balance w/ with my insurance) sleeved…and I would pay so much more, in hindsight.
It has been a crazy journey, so many NSV, so much rediscovering myself….I am nowhere near done. Support from this group has been so important…
I am back into everything I missed, trying new things, and there is something about this – doing this now – it is like I am discovering a whole new me. At 39 years old, I am coming “into my own” at the same time I am adapting to my new body…it blows my mind still…
Size 14 for now…will maybe try for 10, but 12 would be great. At 5’10” and built like a linebacker, rather than a ballerina it’s a good size for me.
Wish me perseverance, and strength - and the same to you all…
    God Bless.
    Namaste.
    Always.

vonnegutk got a reaction from coops in Stalls
Great job on your weight loss. My advice about stalls is to lose the term from your vocabulary! The term is an obstacle to your lifestyle change. I know that it is difficult to purge yourself of thoughts of being on a diet. These thoughts and feelings will pass. The most important aspect of this entire experience is to exercise, exercise, exercise. Do SOMETHING everyday that gets your heart rate up and gets your body moving. One last thing that has worked for me... take your scale outside in the back yard; get a baseball bat; use the baseball bat to destroy your scale! good luck and YOU WILL DO IT!

Thank you for the kind words. Congratulations on your weight loss. I am so looking forward to my conversion. I have been successful with the band, but believe the sleeve will lead to a lifetime of health!

Thank you so much for your encouraging words. The more I speak to people who have the sleeve the more I find out how successful the procedure is for most. Thanks!

Hi all-My name is Tad. I live in Orange County, Ca. In July, 2007, I had my lap band surgery. I have lost over 160 pounds! However, I have had some complications and will be having conversion surgery to a gastric sleeve January 23, 2013. There is no erosion, so conversion will take place in one surgery. Just wanted to hear the experiences of others. Tad

Hi Tad - if you don't get any responses before it falls off the recent topics list on the right, post again because I know there are several people who have had the conversion from band to sleeve.
