Hey y'all! I've moved this thread to the support section and pinned it. The evenings is usually the time when other folks have time to chat, so check it out!

If you want to chat, you can give this thread a little bump and it will show up on the "new threads" search and more people can see it. You get real time answers, HTH!!

There was another thread where someone said they can never find anyone in the chat room.
We chat in the evenings. It depends on your time zone. I try to check in early for those on the east cost.
Last night we were chatting til past 1 am pacific time and the person I was chatting with was a couple hours ahead of me.
Keep checking! You have to open a separate window and minimize it. Then what I do is read posts or email etc, and I wait for the doorbell that will ring and I will know someone came in.
You can always private message someone too and ask them to meet you in the chat room at a certain time. I have done that before too.
Chatting is a lot of fun and also a great way to get questions answered.

    Hey
I did a Esophageal motility study and results are:
Esophageal pH monitoring: normal, just had 8 refluxes in total, normal is less than 50.
esophageal manometry: hypotonic lower esophageal sphincter
I will get back and talk with surgeon on Monday to decide sleeve or bypass, by the exam looks like would be ok sleeve as pH monitoring is more important than manometry but not sure yet...
Anyone had a similar result? If so what you did sleeve or bypass?
    Thanks

The sleeve is the first part of a duodenal switch not an RNY

you can go from sleeve to bypass but not the other way.
the sleeve used to be the first part of the bypass surgery.
take GERD meds starting a month before surgery and for at least 2 months after maybe forever. even if you don't feel the Gerd.
This is standard for my Surgeon.
just my 2 cents. you have to go with what you are comfortable doing

Hi, I have a VSG scheduled for December but I'm still in doubt if I should go for a bypass!
    I'm 297lb -and 6.0 tall - BMI 39
I was sure about getting a VSG but my endoscopy exam has the following: light esophagitis / Barrett's Esophagus - GERD . To be honest I don't feel anything related to it but I read a lot of articles and comments that VSG is not good for who has reflux.
My doctor checked the exam and said would be ok proceed with VSG. I went to another doctor to get a second opinion, he saw my exame and right away said better get a bypass! Next week I will return to my doctor and talk again and might change to bypass.
What you guys think? Anyone had a similar experience?

Since surgery I have just been wearing baggy yoga pants, a sports bra, and loose tank tops. Well, and of course my full body Spanx compression garment, lol. I haven't even had the energy or desire to put on anything else! Probably won't attempt a pair of jeans for quite a while. I took 5 weeks off from work, but luckily when I go back I just wear scrub pants! [emoji23]

6 months!! Sorry I missed that. Just hoping to be in smaller clothes before that. Guess that sounds pretty vain, doesn't it? Sorry, chalk it up to impatience.

With this swelling..........are your clothes still fitting better than before you had the surgery?? Did you go a size smaller, and how soon? Less than 2 weeks before I have my panni, and have all of these crazy thoughts in my head.
    Thanks

Took months, for me. Wasn't back in pre-tt/panni clothes for a long time. Was probably 6 months before I felt NO swelling anymore.

The worst of the swelling lasted 3-4 weeks. After that, it was mostly when I over did it that the swelling would come back. I'm almost 4 months post op, and swelling isn't an issue.

Give it another week or 2, and then look at swelling as your body's way of telling you to slow down!

For my Tummy Tuck, it took about six weeks before the swelling went down. I'm almost eleven weeks out of surgery and if I have a busy day where I'm standing a lot, I notice swelling again.

About how long did it take for you to start noticing swelling going down and get some relief? I'll be one week post op tomorrow, and still feel like a Macy's thanksgiving day balloon, lol. I'm trying to increase my fluids, but I don't feel like the swelling is getting any better. I know it's not unusual, this was a major surgery and will take time, just looking for a light at the end of the tunnel!
    Thanks

Don't remember how long. I'm usually a size 0-00. After surgery I was a 4 for quite a while, then 2, then eventually back in 0-00

How soon before you were able to wear a size smaller pants/tops? Even with the swelling?

RealMe, thanks! All of you are making me much calmer about this. According to the surgeon, there won't be a lot of muscle work done, and at my age that is just fine. Glad you told me the compression band will help with the flattening, I thought it was just for recovery.
    I'll keep you posted.

When I had my TT/Panni, I was so worried that I'd be completely debilitated and that the drains would gross me out which causes me to pass out.
Actually there was barely any pain, just a tightness from the muscle repair. Be prepared to walk/sleep in a slightly hunched position. They won't want you straight for at least a week.
Woke up with a compression belly band, which had to be worn 24/7. I was told that the longer I wore compression, the better the final result. Once the drains were out, I bought compression body suits and waist nippers.
The drains, while being annoying, were not that gross. Never even felt queasy, and for me, that's saying something!!
Had a long piece of gauze, tied so it's a big loop, and a safety pin. Would put it around my neck so that I could hang the drains while showering. Make tabs from cloth tape around the drain tubes.
I was shocked at how easy the recovery was! Felt like I barely skipped a beat, just moved slower and hunchy.

Best of luck! Keep us all posted on how you are doing.

I want to get one so badly, but I won't. But I hate this overhang.
But you should do fine...and you'll have that flat abdomen once all healed!! Good for you. Go for it!! Rock it.

I had my Panni in 2015. I was at my goal weight of 125#'s and I can defintly tell you my recovery was nothing. The drains are not bad at all. I had to have my daughter come and drain them and change my bandages for awhile. I could do the drains but for the life of me I couldn't do the bandages. I kid you not it was a super duper recovery. Now I took my pain pills for a little while because I was told that I didn't want to take them after I was already in pain. I didn't even have to wear a compression belt. I even had the nurse call my PS I just thought he had forgotten to get me one on order. He removed 10plus #'s. The only thing I wish is I would have went with the TT with Lipo on my upper stomach. My advise is to really make sure that your Suregon knows exactly what you want. My PS promised this and that and didn't follow thru with it. I am glad I had it done but just wish I would have known that now I DO need lipo on my upper stomach. He said he would give me a good deal for $6,000 he woud do Lipo and a breast lift. I feel like he was just setting up more business and I would have gladly paid the extra if I had known.

Thanks so much. I followed your progress and you've seemed to do very well. I'm 64 and just questioning myself on "elective" surgery at this age....of course I'm healthier than I was in my 40s and 50s I guess.
