I was on vacation last week, and at the end I casually mentioned it to my mom: “I think I’ve gained some weight, maybe two or three pounds” and she had this completely over-the-top, horrified reaction! Like, so ABSURDLY reactionary that I stopped in my tracks and turned to look at her, and she got all flustered trying to backtrack. It was so weird! I was unfazed when saying it, it was mostly just a casual observation, but her exclamation really blindsided me.

Now, the nutty thing is that I was right - 2.5 lb increase, based on total inactivity and steady booze/ice cream intake (no regrets!). This is a weird victory for me, both in that I am apparently familiar enough with my body at this point to be able to gauge weigh correctly just by gut feel, and that I felt absolutely no shame or guilt in the observation. But mom’s reaction was a strange blend - it reminded me that she did react constantly to anything related to my weight when I was fat, but the scale of the response was much more connected to a real horror of me reverting.

I love her to death, but yikes. And I think she was just as taken aback by her response as I was; she’d mostly stopped actively bugging me about weight a few years before surgery (she attended a psych lecture and during the presentation realized that all the “don’t do this” things around body image were things she’d done while raising me, and apparently had to leave mid-presentation and cry in the car). She was very careful after that, and then thrilled after surgery, so this was more like her behavior to teenage me suddenly popping up out of nowhere like a jack-in-the-box.

Anyone else seen weird throwback behavior from friends or relatives?

Ironically, last week after like four bites of frozen yogurt my mom freaked out on me about gaining my weight back and how I needed to reign things back in. She was so over the top aggressive, it made me realize that I was not the only one who had an unhealthy relationship with weight. It brought me right back to my childhood. I quickly placed firm boundaries around this issue, which she is not doing well with ... but a healthy relationship with food is about me not her. And I will continue on this journey strong ... creating my new life, including healthy relationships with both food and people. Good luck to us all!

I miss the weeks of losing 2-3lbs in a week. :( Had to remind myself of this. Saw this and wanted to share. Any of you sophomores feel this way?

I’ve been bouncing around 180 for like two months! I’m getting discouraged and not tracking, but eating fairly on track and well it’s frustrating!

  4. Almost 8 months post op and my weight loss has slowedddd to a snail’s pace :( sometimes I wonder if I’m not eating enough? Can anyone share with me what your current macro ranges are? I had my sleeve done on Mexico so I don’t see a NUT here. Thank you!

  5. I’m 6.5 months post op, and have been bouncing around the same numbers for a week or two or three. I’m about 30 lbs from my goal, lost 70 so far .... but I feel in a rut. I’m snacking more, tracking less, still working out like a beast ... but anyone else hit this kinda phase when their weight loss slowed?

  6. Oh my goodness it’s been awhile! I just passed my 5 mo post op and have been over coming a stall, so going to attack this new year! As I continue to lose weight and work out, I notice some areas of saggy skin (to be expected) which I treat by staying hydrated & kicking butt in the gym but I’m wondering if anyone is treating themselves with supplements or Vitamins for tightening of skin or elasticity? Happy new year to you all my fellow warriors 💞

    1) challenge starting weight: 197

    2) current weight lost: 53

    3) losing or maintaining: losing

    4) fitness goal: to work out at least three times a week

    5) post challenge weight loss: unknown

    6) check in: I was actually looking for something that was going to focus on the holidays, so this is perfect! I’m hitting the gym hard with my trainer and it feels great! Although I notice I seem to be grazing a bit more than usual, nothing unhealthy so I can help but wonder if the increase in activity means my body wants a few more grams of Protein. Hmmm :) good luck with this first week everyone!
    Final Check In!
    Challenge weight loss: 9 lbs!
    Total weight loss: 62 lbs!
    Still losing ;)

Thanks for helping me get through the holidays! Currently increasing my exercise and learning how to eat only to fuel my body. But overall feel successful getting through the holidays!

May 2019 bring your joy, happiness, and health!

    Weekly check in #1
    1) 194
    2) 3 lbs since Friday! Total 56 down
    3) I’m a loser baby!
    4) already worked out three times with my trainer ... woop
    5) 3 lbs so far
    6) doing great and feeling no stress about the holiday! Spending it with close supportive family and sticking to mainly Protein and veggies. Probably a bite or two of a roll and pie filling, but I’m fine with that as I’m creating a lifestyle not a ‘diet’ .
    Happy thanksgiving to you all!

  10. I’m 3.5 months post op and am sticking to a 40 - 65 carbs per day. But this is mostly complex carbs in my healthy food. I eat whole grains but no bread/pasta/rice etc. but it’s also not an exact science. Everyone’s body reacts differently, as well as we all have different providers. But it is fun to know what everyone else does ;)

  12. I’m 3 months post op, 54 lbs down, and still think about food. For me, food was emotional. I ate when I was sad, when I was happy, when I was mad, and it was my coping for when I became a young widow. In September we passed his 9th angel day, and I was more emotional than I have been in years! But I realized, it was because I wasn’t using food to mask my emotions! This journey is allowing me to deal with my whys ... why did I eat, why was I sad, etc. Therapy, soul searching, and support are all a piece of that for me. I wish you all the best in your journeys 💞

  13. Ok gang, I just weighed in for my 3 months post op and I lost 1.2 lbs this week. My body fat decreased by 1%. I kick ass in the gym with a trainer 2 - 3 times a week, so I know I’m trading muscle for fat. I track my Protein intake and am on path for about 80g each day, and despite losing 50 lbs overall (which is amazing!) I’m wondering if I’ve hit another ‘stall’ or if I’m slowing down. Any thoughts or similar experiences? Have a great day everyone!

I am at a strange place. I can eat salmon, and tuna as long as they are really moist. However, it seams every time I eat it never fails that I throw up 🤢 within a few hours. I it only happens when I eat fish. I guess I need to stop eating fish. I love it. I can eat it, I just can not keep it down. It took about an hour and a half for it to come up this time, however, it came up.
I hear ya, I just puked up my dinner. Ground turkey, made small taco salad w no shell and boy was it gross the second time around 🤢🤢🤢 hope your stomach settles down soon‼️
