  1. Yeah I drink 30 minutes before I eat and 30 minutes after I eat. Mostly water. Than broth Than milk. Throughout the day.
  2. I’m 6 days post op and my incision are itching. Does this means it’s healing ?
  3. I surely hope that it gets better with time. My hunger sensation right now after the surgery is at its peak , also when I eat my yogurt etc , the first few days I felt restriction but now it’s just being nauseous , and if that’s over, the hunger comes back. It’s super weird , to say the least
  4. That’s such a bummer 😢 I was under the impression before the surgery that the hunger sensation would drop extensively. But it’s no different than before the surgery. Also I read yesterday that the gastric bypass still absorbs ALL calories , while I had the impression it wouldn’t. Hmm, I’m scratching my head 😐

    What are slider foods?

I mean they’re low calorie, fruits, so why is that a problem? The problem is with sliders is when they’re high in calorie and have no nutritional value.
  6. Mine was 2 weeks and it consisted of modifast intensive. 3 shakes a day.
  7. 5 days. I just had my first sweet release today , and I ate baby porridge which had a lot of fiber in it.
  8. Haha funny thing, the moment you reacted my bowels were moving and I had a sweet release 😅
  9. Thank you guys for the replies, I’m gonna contact my hospital tomorrow and ask for advice since I don’t want to take anything without the permission of my surgeon .
  10. Are you taking your anti acid medication? Usually when you take it, that problem goes away
  11. Hey everybody I have a question does yoghurt drinks count as a meal or just fluids?
  12. That sounds great, ill definitely try that ! 💞
  13. Thank you for the reply and advice 💞
  14. I’m 4 days post op, I can pretty much go to the bathroom on my own, walking , the stairs was no problem for me (just easily tired) I can shower on my own (which makes you super tired nonetheless).

    What are slider foods?

To the weight loss surgery patient slider foods are the bane of good intentions and ignorance often causing dumping syndrome, weight loss plateaus, and eventually weight gain. Slider foods, to weight loss surgery patients, are soft simple processed carbohydrates of little or no nutritional value that slide right through the surgical stomach pouch without providing nutrition or satiation. The most innocent of slider foods are saltine crackers, often eaten with warm tea or other beverages, to soothe the stomach in illness or while recovering from surgery. Understanding Slider Foods The most commonly consumed slider foods include pretzels, crackers (saltines, graham, Ritz, etc.) filled cracker snacks such as Ritz Bits, popcorn, cheese snacks (Cheetos) or cheese crackers, tortilla chips with salsa, potato chips, sugar-free cookies, cakes, and candy. You will notice these slider foods are often salty and cause a dry mouth so they must be ingested with liquid to be palatable. This is how they become slider foods. They are also, most often, void of nutritional value. For weight loss surgery patients the process of digestion is different than those who have not undergone gastric surgery. When slider foods are consumed they go into the stomach pouch and exit directly into the jejunum where the simple carbohydrate slurry is quickly absorbed and stored by the body. There is little thermic effect in the digestion of simple carbohydrates like there is in the digestion of protein so little metabolic energy is expended. In most cases patients in the phase of weight loss who eat slider foods will experience a weight loss plateau and possibly the setback of weight gain. And sadly, they will begin to believe their surgical stomach pouch is not functioning properly because they never feel fullness or restriction like they experience when eating protein. The very nature of the surgical gastric pouch is to cause feelings of tightness or restriction when one has eaten enough food. However, when soft simple carbohydrates are eaten this tightness or restriction does not result and one can continue to eat, unmeasured, copious amounts of non-nutritional food without ever feeling uncomfortable. Many patients turn to slider foods for this very reason. They do not like the discomfort that results when the pouch is full from eating a measured portion of lean animal or dairy protein without liquids. Yet it is this very restriction that is the desired result of the surgery. The discomfort is intended to signal the cessation of eating. Remembering the “Protein First” rule is crucial to weight management with bariatric surgery. Gastric bypass, gastric banding (lap-band) and gastric sleeve patients are instructed to follow a high protein diet to facilitate healing and promote weight loss. Bariatric centers advise what is commonly known among weight loss surgery patients as the “Four Rules” the most important of which is “Protein First.” That means of all nutrients (protein, veggies, complex carbohydrates, then fat and alcohol) the patient is required to eat protein first. Protein is not always the most comfortable food choice for weight loss surgery patients who feel restriction after eating a very small amount of food. However, for the surgical tool to work correctly a diet rich in protein and low in simple carbohydrate slider foods must be observed. The high protein diet must be followed even after healthy body weight has been achieved in order to maintain a healthy weight and avoid weight regain. Feature courtesy of BariatricPal.com

    Mashed potatoes

Hey , mashed potatoes sounds so good right now lol But I thought we need to eat protein first and then the vegetables and then the carbs. Anyway that’s why doctors are telling me and that’s what I’m sticking to.
  18. Hey my gastric bypass family! Boy what a rough day it was! Clearly my mind has to adjust to this new life style. Im legit having flashbacks of junk food in my head. Which is embarrassing I know 😰 I’m just 3 days out of surgery. I haven’t did the number 2 yet,, which I don’t know if it’s normal? But yeah I’m so sore, the surrounding of my incisions is turning a bit blue/green , cuz it was a deep cut so I think it’s just bruising.! But if somebody has an idea what it can be?? It would be welcome Ofcourse to top that off, I have my period 😑 Well my liquids are harder today. Yesterday I drank 2 liters of water. (I don’t do ounces, I’m from Europe! ) But today I can’t even finish 1 liter. Broth goes down well, yogurt too but the evening meal is a bit tough. So yeah I’m just in bed. And hoping for a safe recovery!! The anti blood clot injections is really a pain too and also waking up with morning sickness 🤢 but if you take anti acid it helps right away luckily. Well I’m gonna try to get some water down and if plain water doesn’t help , I must put something in my water like sugar free syrup to get it down my throat , so to speak. So far I don’t experience any regret. I don’t experience “fear of missing out on food” yet. But I do get flashbacks of junk food and I still have the hunger in my mind while my pouch is clearly full. I think it’s the lack of liquids. Anyway I’m done rambling thanks for listening ! Maybe I will come back and talk about my surgery and explain more what happend for the people that think about doing it and still have doubts or fear of the pain cuz I was there!! Anyway take care y’all. Xoxo

    August bypassers/sleevers

I had it at 14 August, im 3 days post up
  20. Hey everyone Well I have done it. I took the leap of faith and now I’m on the other side. I got home this afternoon after 1 day stay. Lots of burping and passing gas. I’m so full for tea spoons of puréed chicken in broth , my stomach did feel sore because of it. Sipping water through the day and trying to walk. And also my focusing on my breathing and making sure I temperature myself. I was so scared before the surgery and so nervous , and now I’m at home trying to get through the first few days and slowly adjusting to this new life. Also I had a different name on here , few people managed to find me that I didn’t want for them to found out so I changed it. Anyway I’m trying to focus on the things, it took me about 1,5 years to get here so it’s a long time coming. Thank you for reading and hopefully I will hear from you guys xoxo
  21. Wow you had a double whammy! I hope you’re doing much better, I feel you with the pain! As for myself , walking truly did help. But as for your situation please be careful and I’m so proud of you that you did it! Yes we chose for a better life and let the weight loss begin !! ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻
  22. I can imagine! The day of surgery was particular hard as I couldn’t stop gagging and I was on the IV. But I’m at day 2 post op and I almost finished 2 liters of water. And the eating part is hard but slowly getting better. I hope you’re doing okay, we can do this !! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
  23. I noticed that hospitals have different rules and regulations across the board, I had it very diluted tho. So I wouldn’t say it was clear liquids but also not puréed. I’m allowed to have unsweetened custard and yogurt and mushed up fruits too.
  24. Well the chicken was boiled in broth water and then puréed until semi liquid, I had a few baby spoons so to say and I waited and then a few other baby spoons and then I was full. My stomach had to work real hard, lots of burping and gas. I felt some pain too so I walked and walked through my room. And even sitting down for a bit until I get comfortable again.
