Had my pre-op and pre-anesthesia appointments this morning! All is good to go for the 12th! Start liquids on 12/04, not looking forward to that, but it is what it is! Let's get this show on the road!!!!!!!

    😁

You scoundrel and your one week pre-op diet! :D :D

Pre-anesthesia? How did that work out? I had pre-op testing the other day, but just to check that my body was in a condition for surgery.

Day 2,3,4 are the worst of the liquid/pre op diet I thought I was having a stroke on day 3. Just goes to show how real a drug sugar is.

My surgery is tomorrow just finished pre op today. A mix between excited and nervous now.

I see that you may not be in the United States, but we have a place here called Bonchon that has delicious Korean fried chicken. My coworkers ordered that last night and the smell was mesmerizing. A lot of my coworkers know about my surgery so they didn't offer it and tried to be as quiet about eating it as possible, but I was kind of sad and angry at myself. What's funny is that I knew this is how I was going to feel but the brain is kind of an a*****e sometimes right?

I am excited and nervous with you too! You are going to do a fantastic job! :)

By any chance are you in Virginia? I know it's unlikely, but we have a St. Francis bariatric hospital here. :)

If no one else comes up with anything, check out the Lean Cuisine frozen and such,at your grocery, low calorie , good Protein levels, many without starchy veggies and mega good tastes Runs $3.50 or less per, and takes the thinking, out of the equation. Enjoy the tastes and flavors , liquids get uber boring, been there for 11+ weeks, would only wish,it on my worst enemies÷!!

Oh and I'm sure they often go on sale! I am going to reach out to my nutritionist to see if it's okay. I would stick with the ones that have the non-starchy vegetables (and just keep within a caloric limit.) This makes me super happy because I have no issues popping something in the microwave real quick!

I just have a thing about reheated foods.

Had both kinds of pneumonia shots, shingles, and get a flu shot yearly. Even if the flu shot, doesn't totally prevent,it, wouldn't want to see what shape I would be without IT.

Yeah, exactly. And it's not like it cost me anything to get one - rather, I got a $10.00 gift card that I could use for shopping! Pneumonia shots? Hm. I usually get bronchitis after being sick so I wish there was a shot for that. LOL

  6. Hello everyone,

I tried to find an earlier topic that related to this post, but I was not able to find quite what I was looking for. . . Tuesday I start my pre-op and I am struggling to find meal-prep ideas that will make my mornings before work a little easier to handle (I work nights.)

I know everyone has a different pre-op diet, but my program allows me 4 oz lean Protein + unlimited non-starchy vegetables alongside 2 Protein Shakes and a small snack. I am not too concerned about the Protein Shake and small snack, but I am out of ideas for the lean protein. The thing is. . . I do NOT like to heat up chicken from it being cold. If it remains cold, that's usually okay, but reheated chicken has a very nasty taste to me and I can't stand it.

Anyone have any meal prep ideas for my 4 oz lean protein + vegetables that heats up well? If I have to, I'll have my "meal" at home and my two protein shakes and Snacks at work, but I'd prefer to eat at work. TIA!

I was the same way. My surgery was Feb. 26th and flu was rampant. I practically avoided everyone I could from mid-February onward. But it turned out ok for me.

Take your Vitamins religiously! You'll need to do it after surgery anyway, so start now. I'm not generally a fan of hand sanitizers, but I used one every time I got back to my desk those last weeks before surgery. Hope that scratch in your throat is nothing major and for December, hoping all goes well!

I got my flu shot for this very reason! I know it won't prevent the flu 100%, but every little bit can help IMO.

I've been taking a Multi-Vitamin for years now, since I am Vitamin B deficient (not sure why, I just get certain symptoms after I haven't taken a Multivitamin for a few days), so I've been doubling down on making sure that I take it. I also been focusing on getting plenty of sleep and staying as stress free as I can (easier said than done.)

I feel a lot better this morning, so I think it may just be allergies/change of weather.

  8. I hate, hate, hate this time of year! I generally only get sick a couple times of year, but it's usually at the start and end of the year. Office workers fail to practice proper hygiene and if they HAVE to come into work, they're not mindful of the fact that they can spread germs!

I'm feeling a little under the weather and a little scratch in my throat that could be delegated to allergies or illness. Honestly, I'd rather get sick now so I have time to recover. I just do NOT want to be sick around December 12, which is my surgery date! Ugh!

    Hi all!

I'm very new here. I'm a younger guy in his twenties going through the first year of law school and am getting sleeved on December 17!

Welcome! I'm going through school to be a Rad Tech, but thankfully my surgery falls into a time frame where I have about a month to heal before I go back to school. How about you?

Omg. I was disappointed at first when I finally got approval. Then the hospital I was going to was out of contract with my INs company. So I was in limbo. Then a miracle happened followed by another. I called and got one last spot. So I a scheduled for December 18. I’m nervous excited. More excited than nervous but it changes every hour. Can’t wait to get it done.

Yessss! Got in just in time!

    Fluffy - I'm already pretty bitter.... 👹

    LOL, this made me laugh.

I struggle, too, with people making unhealthy eating choices around me. I know that a lot of the struggle is mental and when I'm in a good mindset (I suffer from mental illness) I can generally post-pone eating in an ugly manner (e.g. food I shouldn't eat, or make good choices when I order out.) It helps having a support group (like this) when you are about to make a bad choice.

I try to remember the reasons why I am doing this surgery. Not only for health reasons, but because I want to feel good about myself. Some of us may unconsciously want to self-sabotage that progress because we don't think we're deserving of . . . well, feeling GOOD about ourselves. But it's okay. You have every right to access self confidence and make yourself feel good about how you look and what you've done.

I want food to mean something, just not some garbage that I shoved into my mouth. I will not deny that food is a very socially oriented activity and while they are definitely alternatives, I feel that successful WLS is embracing how to compromise the new lifestyle (if you know what I mean.)

Anyway, I feel like I'm rambling. :) Work is a stressful time for me concerning food (especially with my mental illness) but I'm trying to find forgiveness in myself so I can move on and make better choices the next time around.

Hi I’m new here, my surgery is scheduled for dec 7! I feel very overwhelmed at the moment— with all the prep and appointments I’ve been having just to get it all done! I know it’s the home stretch but it’s been a lot!! I go in between feelings of nervousness and excitment! Looking forward to chatting with you all!

I was so excited and hoping to have the surgery this month but I was on birth control and they said you have to be off that for 30 days so I have to wait to December. My doctor also said no pills. Does anyone know why you can't have pills for 30 days?

Hm. I asked my surgeon about my anti-depressant and he asked about how big the tablet was. I gave him an estimate (it's a very tiny pill) and he said due to the size, it should be okay to take. I don't really have any other choice, it's definitely something that I have to take.

In my opinion, they do not suggest pills during initial post-surgery because your stomach is healing and there is limited space. I've never heard of not taking birth control prior to the surgery. Is it possible for you to ask your Nurse if its okay since the pills are generally small?

  14. Would anyone be interested in a December VSG chat? I am not sure if it would be on Facebook, or Discord. I thought maybe it would be nice for all of us to chat about our experiences when the time comes. Just a thought! I'm normally pretty socially anxious, so I wouldn't talk much, but I'm putting the offer out there to those that may be interested. :)

I have cigna as well. My hr dept tools me to call an open a claim. Did the initial over the phone. For the claim number. They asked for the Dr's name and phone /fax. Other than turning in my release to go back to work that's all I had to do

I have a bit of phone anxiety, so I always like an internet option. But I may call them on my next day off and do what you did. But it seems to have been easy peasy with you!

  16. Hello everyone,

I'm having a bit of a tough time filling out my short term disability for my surgery coming up on December 12! I have CIGNA, so my questions are as follows:

    1. Do I fill out the short term disability before or after the surgery (I've already filled out FMLA paperwork as well.)

    2. When asked "when did the symptoms first start?" - is that when my morbid obesity became an issue?
"Have you had this illness before?" I've had it pretty much my whole life, so is that a yes or a no?

Anyone else care to share what they put down for their short term disability? Thank you in advance!

I'm scheduled for December 28th. I too am a college student. I'm 35 years old and have decided to leave my former career of retail management to become a registered dental hygienist. I had to schedule my surgery right after Christmas because I have classes all the way through the 20th.
I just started my extended pre-op diet, my current weight is 248 and theyd like me to at least reach 235 before surgery.

Sent from my LG-M255 using BariatricPal mobile app

I currently work in logistics and I've decided that I want a career in radiology, more specifically a radiological technician. The way that my class is set up (online) I can take my final exam a couple days before my surgery, so I have about a month to recover before I start the Spring semester.

I believe I will have a pre-op diet about two weeks prior to surgery, but nothing up until then. What is your extended pre-op diet like?

Surgery twinsies! I am literally getting SOOO excited!!! Although I was just wondering why I have to give up coffee.....that's upsetting!

I've been going back and forth between being super excited and then downright scared. So, coffee is definitely going to be off the table for a couple of weeks post-surgery, but my surgeon said that after a certain point (when I'm comfortably getting in liquids) I can start drinking coffee again. I don't drink mine with a whole lot of sugar (actually, I just put a splash of heavy whipping cream in it.)

That's what my surgeon said. They agree that coffee is a good way to get Protein Shakes down (you can add them to your coffee.)

I had my surgery exactly a year before you 12/12/17. Hopefully it's a lucky date. Almost a year out looking back it was an amazing life changing decision. I was just over 300 lbs to start and by June (6 months) had lost just under 100 lbs and was running miles at a time, biking etc. since then I've been trying to maintain around 200 and struggling a bit to not keep losing (a high class problem). Good luck, great things are to come and in a year you will feel totally different!

The more that I dwell on the surgery, to more worried and anxious that I've become. I know it will be a fantastic thing for me to do and will open up a lot of opportunities for me to live my life. . . but it's natural to be kind of scared, you know? Thank you for the good vibes, I think it WILL be a lucky date. :)

  20. As someone who will likely shave their head and wear a wig (I don't think I have alopecia, but my hair reacts badly to weight loss) after the surgery, this makes me heart swell so much with love and reassurance! When I told my husband that I was scared to lose my hair (as a possible reason why not to have the surgery) he said I was the silliest creature alive. He told me to shave it and wear some sexy wigs!

You look absolutely gorgeous, with or without the wig. ❤️
