Hello!! That’s so cool you are seeing Dr. Cobourn too. He is very lovely, warm and reassuring. I researched SO much and I’m very glad I went with him. I haven’t found a negative comment yet. The clinic was very nice and the nurses wonderful. I was especially happy with the Anesthesiologist. Going under was a huge fear. He spent a fair bit of time with me. They didn’t “tie” me down and he let me hold the mask. The nurse held my hand and just kept talking to me. Last thing I remembered was Dr Cobourn coming in and announcing Gasterectomy Sleeve. I went to sleep very peacefully. Are you travelling there or driving?

Thanks so much Lynn that’s great to hear! I’m excited and terrified. I’ll be flying there as well and I’ll be on my own so just beginning to figure out logistics, hotels etc. Congrats on your weight loss so far - looks like you’re off to an amazing start!!

My starting BMI was 35.5. no co morbidities, but a family history that concerned me. I self paid through Blossom Bariatric. Three weeks from first appointment to surgery. I did have a full day where I met with a counselor and nutritionist, and had to show a history of previous attempts to lose weight. Perhaps the wait is longer without that history.

I lost 40 lbs in the first 3 months. I was very strict in observing my diet and exercise routine. I've been less careful since (I'm 8 months out now) and have only lost an additional 10 pounds. I'd like to lose at least 15 more, and know that would be easily accomplished with strict adherence to diet and exercise.
Thanks for this - very helpful! I’m also self pay with the full blessing of my PCP based on my history/family history. I’m scheduled for VSG on Oct 18 with an ecg and first appointment with psychologist over the next few weeks. My surgeon didn’t actually require (or even suggest) the psych evaluation/ support but so far I have opted not to tell anyone about my upcoming surgery and know that I’ll need to build a different kind of support system! Thanks again for sharing your experience - congratulations on your progress so far and good luck with those remaining 15!

  3. I was waffling a couple of months ago about whether I was making the right choice to pursue VSG. I decided to get honest with myself about the things I had been putting off/avoiding because of my weight (and therefore things I might do after VSG).

I started the list and it went on and on and on....
    - fit into a wet suit and go scuba diving
    - be in the picture with my kids
    - promote my business
    - flirt
Etc. Etc. Etc. Etc. for pages... :(

I still cry every time I think of another thing to add to the list. But, I do get excited by the thought that someday, hopefully soon, that list will shrink!

What have you been putting off and what will you be excited to do either again or for the first time after WLS?!

Ps VSG scheduled for October 18, 2018.
